So sad! TBH the students universities graduate these days are Nothing to write home about. All they are interested In is social media. University education has lost it's relevance in recent times and operate in "PAST GLORY". To my greatest shock, a lot of Polytechnic students have been delivering of late (and even college of health tech.). Very intelligent and serious minded people even in the field. I was made to understand that due to the "practical nature of the Polytechnic system" they get more serious and are exposed to a lot hence their ability to deliver.
As an employer of labour, I'd rather go for a Polytechnic graduate (who knows the job and need not be told what to do) than a university graduate who knows nothing. I'll not have to spend money on training them (Polytechnic graduates) as they are really no freshers and are exposed more in the job environment. Their SIWES (nd1), full IT (After ND which they naturally go look for full time jobs) gives them edge over university graduates. I must confess, they really deliver in the field (At least from all I've worked with TRUTH BE TOLD). IT SHOULD BE EQUATED
It is not the students faults. We use theoretical curriculum so damn much in this country what do you now expect?

Do you know the rigorous stress bsc holder have to go through to be admitted in the university? After you score 168 in jamb you are hoping to be admitted into a university, seems you guys are sick, you deserve the HND, HND is for people who perform poorly in jamb, but the truth is that the HND holder ends up becoming academically sound, honestly, I envy them when dey come to unilag dli to run direct entry, they are so good.
so, those who score 180+ can't go to a private university.... Discrimination in the education sector isn't needed... Mental ability depends on individual. The fact that Mr. A went to a polytechnic doesn't mean he won't go far than Mr. B who went to the Almighty or self acclaimed university...... Pwc, deliotte friesland compania are embracing these poly graduates(not forgetting other multi-national coys), in life, what you believe will surely work out good..... And lastly, no one is sick.... Pass your info and let's discuss not agrue. (I'm a product of the two institution).... Nigeria to the world

This HND holders with their entitlement mentality. This discrimination has been there for ages and you think this is the right time to change the status quo, having lagged behind in intellect with your contemporaries who struggled so hard to beat the admission standard obtainable in universities.

No one in Nigeria would have desired polytechnic education if given an option to attend university. So why crying fowl now. It's never a rewarding adventure to compromise standard. Always aim to be among the best to avoid unnecessary struggle to upturn reality.

The Polytechnic was formed to create middle level manpower while the university graduates are universal ,so what the fuss about,
HND should be scrapped from participating in the NYSC ,
I am a proud product of the two citadel of learning.

If you can call the university you graduated from, why not call the name of the Polytechnic as well so they "improve" at least. It could just be that you're just telling lies and are pained and that I understand cos truth is bitter

Lol. Who's actually pained here, me or you? Calling out the polytechnic wouldn't change anything. You're not the rector.

But I must warn you about pulling down universities and pushing up polytechnics to sell your narrative. Apart from the fact that it's wrong from the moral point of view, it's wrong on any other index.

I feel disturb when I see ignorant fox going about with such obnoxious orientation. I'll support polytechnics because I'm a product of it and you'll never see me pulling it down, but wherever I find people like you, I've made it a point of duty to expose the truth.

This you did to be accepted in the job society not that it was necessary (as per knowledge wise). Whenever you get to the field, you'll deliver and then it will look like "all thanks to UNN" where as you have that Polytechnic advantage which is what built you. Now tell me, what about the massive rest that didn't have the opportunity you have? This is what I'm saying. University system has lost it.

Gone are the days where an awo student was seen as a brain box. Now you get so disappointed I tell you. You'd see a student of mapoly, nekede or some STATE POLY FROM THE NORTH delivering better. I'm saying this with much bitterness and concern. Even UNN students too. University system is collapsed Tbh. So far only unilag that I've seen are "sort of" ok (and still some disappoint). Poly students are good I MUST CONFESS (and funny enough monotechnic students too from "STATE INSTITUTIONS AND NOT EVEN FEDERAL"wink. THESE ARE THE BEST NOW BUT THE MEDIA TRIES TO KILL IT COS IT WOULD BE A SHAME ON THE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM. They should be EQUATED that's the truth
my Friend please remove nekede from that list.

He's forgetting the "nepotism" involved in admission hence where you see admission is where you go. You mustn't be bright to attend a university. Just have the connect. There are people with very high jamb score who couldn't afford UNIVERSITY cos of nepotism hence saw Polytechnic and went. He's so uninformed

I can't believe you just asked this question. So it is only the number of years that determines equality.
In United States, they don't know what hnd is, so if u present and hnd result they simply evaluate it, and equate it to a bsc because of the number of yrs.

So your hnd or bsc from Nigeria is thesame thing in the US.

Simple reason for this: corrupt system. Our leaders no longer encourage hardwork. All what the youths see is: politicians stealing billions of dollars of public fund while so many of them get away with it , few that the system would deal with might only be asked to pay a fragment of what they stole.

What message are they passing to the youth in this regard.? Hardwork or laziness?

This is the fundamental issue that we need to tackle in this nation. Look around and across the edcuatuonal system. It's all messed. Bad lecture halls, unstable calendar system and so many things aren't working, and not like this country doesn't have the money...

As to graduates of polytechnic vs university, they are all the same. The bad system has infiltrated all products coming from them.

Until we realise this one problem highlighted above and face it head long, the nation's human productivity will continually be on decline.

DAILY TRUST
I won't encourage discrimination, but if they feel marginalized, they can study further to obtain BSc. The solution is quite simple.

HND should be more practical oriented, so it depends on the employer of labour to decide.

Lab technicians (HND) will be fighting with Lab Scientist(BSc)... When will alll these fights end?
