Good morning all,

I am a newcomer to this group.

I am currently running my PR and last I checked, all criteria has been met and just waiting for final approval. I have a fiance and we have been unable to do a legit wedding as all courts (almighty Ikoyi). I am aware that some used LGA council cert but I am yet to see anyone adding spouse PR PPR using this.
Another worry is the fact that there is very high likelihood files will be transferred to Ghana and if there is need for interview, wont hold until after this whole lock down is 100% complete.

We thought of the option of waiting patiently for my application to be approved and PPR issued and worse case scenario, travel and go through the sponsorship route, at least we are certain one foot is already there irrespective of the uncertainty around covid. I might now have to spend resources in travelling back after getting the PR card to conduct and official wedding then return.

We are actually confused and the major point of confusion is :
a. usage of local council cert (now that I am adding him) - people advise that since such applications are overly vetted, best we use Ikoyi
b. fear of AVO and the risk of interview which might delay unnecessarily due to this covid
c. stress of going and returning immediately and the ease of sponsorship (is it always within 12 mnths as stated)

Confused! need advise

I will advice that you go ahead and get married. Then raise a we form to inform IRCC of your change in family composition. Of course this will mean that your spouse will have to do medicals, biometrics, PCC and provide additional POF. There is a probability that your files might/ might not be moved to Accra. Which ever way, I feel that it is much better, faster and less expensive than going through the spouse sponsorship.

Passport request from IRCC. Online profile was not updated rather a call was received directly from the Canadian High Commission Lagos to submit passport for Stamping via Courier!
Just encouraging everyone to keep the hope alive!

Hi, sorry I'm just new here and I have not followed your story. Is that a SOWP application approved? Thanks.

We didn’t submit our passport to a VAC, we couriered it to Canadian High Commission Abuja per the phone call received and correspondent confirmed passport will be returned between 10-14 business day.

Thanks for this.

Its interesting, we werent asked to submit medicals. Last webform we raised just said the delay is due to COVID.
We requested GCMS notes recently as well.

Might look into your point re: 'email for COVID exemption'.

Was this just a webform?

Thanks again!!

Hi Opemipo,
So we can send this email even before we get the approval? Wouldnt we need to provide proof that we have the Visa?

Do you mind sharing the email address please or any relevant guidance as i havent heard of this before?

Thanks again!

No, the email is to inform them that your application is essential and should be attended to. The email can also be used to get a letter that you can use to travel to Canada if your family member is on temporary resident permit. The email address is IRCC.COVID-TravelExemptions-Exemptionsdevoyage-COVID.IRCC@cic.gc.ca
