Omooba77: Fool yourselves. The military leaders from northern Nigeria erratically created 19 states and Abuja with hundreds of local government areas, in one old northern region. The structure gave overwhelming political powers to politicians in the northern region as well as unduly diverts Nigeria’s shared revenues to the north . The 2014 CONFAB addressed the imbalance through adjustment to the political structure by creating new states. Military leaders don’t create political structure for a country. But Buhari government must like to keep the imbalance and lopsided political structure weighing down on southern Nigeria, and talk this Dogonturenchi on restructuring now. |

A jihadist that want to take over ur land, water, natural resources and give to his people will now come and restructure to stop his own moves and program of complete take over? a man that warming up for a third term in office? any way, una no know fulani yet |

abc115:Will executive order stand the test of time? I think a constitutional review should suffice. I am quite certain most states are without elected LGA Chairmen and even the ones with elected Chairmen, the Governors are still holding sway... If we must get it right, the executive arm of government should sponsor a bill seeking for the dissolution of state electoral commissions first and foremost, let INEC be saddled with the responsibility of conducting all elections so that Governor can stop selecting LGA Chairmen... Secondly, the executive should lobby the national assembly to review the constitution wherein, LGA autonomy, SHOA autonomy and Judicial fiscal autonomy will be enshrined in the constitution... Thirdly, state should control their resources and be made to compulsory remit a percentage to the FG that way, all states will be forced to harness her God given potentials... Fourthly, on electioneering, they should push a bill recognizing independent candidature...In Nigeria before you are given the flag of APC or PDP, you will have made so many concessions and in some cases made to sign undertakings with far reaching spiritual implications should you at any point in time renege on such commitments... The independent candidature bill should be followed with another one seeking to reposition INEC. Electronic voting is the way forward to deal with cases of ballot box snatching and electoral violence all together... All of these can be done and should be done if the Buhari-led FG really mean well for the people. A big 'IF' I must say... |

abc115: I don't know your state but in my state, Kogi, none of the things you said is real. The last time I checked, the state government owed and paid the judiciary including the chief judge. Yaya Bello has relocated all the 21 treasurers of the 21 local governments to Lokoja the state capital. That action is wrong if truly there is autonomy. Yaya Bello has stopped all forms of elections in the local governments since he came to power 5 years ago. No election for chairmen and councillors for the past 5 years in Kogi. He only put his boys in the local government secretariats as administrators. The house of assembly members are still under the control of the state government. So which autonomy are we talking about? In a lay man's language, autonomy should include salaries and allocations coming from Abuja directly to the accounts of the legislature, judiciary and local governments without going through the State account. As long as the State controls their monies, there is no autonomy anywhere. |
