So I finally drove my xc90 3.2l home yesterday (story behind it is for another day). Big thanks to Valarinz for connecting me to the technician that got it down to Lagos and got everything back in working order. Now my issue (I'm not used to Auto transmissions so forgive the descriptions ). Driving from Ogun to Ladipo with the car, it moved smoothly. On getting to Lagos, I decided to change all fluids (didn't find service manual) and was told I should just top up the transmission fluid (I can't remember the name of the fluid used but 5l in a white gallon and black/orange label I think I remember German something written on it, it cost 12k). Driving from Lagos to Port Harcourt I started noticing hard shifting, like while driving once in a while it lurches and makes a loud "gbim"sound when shifting, then for a few km it's okay then after a while it does the same thing again. Has anyone else experienced this? How was it solved? cc: radautoworks gazzuzz |

cluewebhost:you should have first of all asked Valarinz to recommend ATF for your transmission before doing anything. He’s very easy and ready to interact/give advice as I’ve also called him a couple of times. You might have to drain out whatever you put in that transmission... “Might” 1 Like |

MASTAkiLLAh: I know, he was really helpful in getting the car from where it was to where it is now but I don't enjoy bothering people all the time. I told them to use the same transmission oil he uses and they brought that one. I'm thinking either what was inside should have been drained first or the quantity isn't enough but need confirmation as I'm just a few days in owning the car. |

Re: Thread For Volvo Car Owners/lovers by cluewebhost(m): 7:28pm On Sep 04, 2020 |
Midoda: The issue then should be the mixing, I'm just seeing in the manual that different transmission fluids shouldn't be mixed. I'd have it drained and refilled with 7l of the recommended (jws 3309) oil this weekend and report any findings. 1 Like |

Second Issue, After the car was first washed in Lagos I parked it and locked, when I came down the rear and brake lights along with one of the headlamps was stuck on, when I tried driving it I'd a lot of error messages come up which cleared by the next morning. Driving from Lagos it started raining heavily halfway through the journey and I noticed water dripping on my feet. When I parked both front footwells were completely soaked. It's raining this morning and now both back lights and the brake lights are on, This means water is getting into the car somehow and it's touching something it shouldn't. I've disconnected to battery to avoid any issue/drain. Google says something about sunroof drains which I would check today too but who has experienced something like this? How was it solved? cluewebhost: |

cluewebhost: Most likely, you have water in your immobilizer box, located directly below your steering wheel. You shouldn't have left Lagos with that anomaly, now it's going to be more expensive to bring you a solution |
Re: Thread For Volvo Car Owners/lovers by cluewebhost(m): 10:16am On Sep 05, 2020 |
Yes o, I actually delayed my trip because of it. I was meant to leave early the next morning but took the car to plaza in the morning but by then everything had cleared and they scanned and said no codes stored. It was almost at Benin when rain started I noticed the water dripping down (and this morning too). I removed the battery terminals since morning pending any solution. valarinz: |
Re: Thread For Volvo Car Owners/lovers by valarinz: 10:21am On Sep 05, 2020 |
cluewebhost: Get a panel beater to clear your roof water passage, it's most likely blocked by debris, reason why water enters your car via the frame. What i think you should do now is get the immobilizer box out and blow it dry, then fix the water leakage and hope no permanent damage has already occurred to the immobilizer |
Re: Thread For Volvo Car Owners/lovers by cluewebhost(m): 10:26am On Sep 05, 2020 |
valarinz: Thanks a lot!! I'd go and look for a panelbeater now. The immobilizer box is the one I'd have to loosen the wipers to get to? |
