My friend that guy is correct.The best thing for any Nigerian youth is having a self employed side hustle. The economy is going down and most multinationals are relocating, couple with the pandemic and Buhari mismanagement for the next 3 years, most companies will lay off many workers.. The poster should make a choice but I still believe having a govt job to take care of his expenses until his side business started booming might be his future best bet

For job security, take the state civil service job. When you become director or perm sec, you don be big boy. Ambode was a state civil servant.

As for multinational, look beyond the pay. Research into how they manage during crisis. Tell is what they do. Do they lay off staff? Do they cut salaries? If it is FMCGs or brewery or cigar, please go there by all means. But if it is engaged in those things that are not really useful, stay in the civil service.

So far the location is going to be Nigeria, Choose Govt job unless the pay is 3 times higher than that of the private one.....My uncle got sacked in 2008 in a bank at the age of 43, he started airport cab business with his big daddy Camry. He died of heartattack when he was not let in USA in 2018 (Victim of terrible travel agent). In Nigeria, Job security is number one pls.

First what is the name of the multinational company that offered you a job and have you prayed to God about it if you are not an atheist? Not all multinational companies are equal, some are very strong and some are very weak and fold easily. If the multinational company have a great reputation of paying their workers on time with benefits, has been existing for a very long time and rarely layoff workers, then I will choose the multinational company. if the company history is unknown , then I choose civil service job. DHL is one that I know that have a good reputation.

On the other hand, I'm about to get a Full time Staff offer from a Multinational Company (Headquarter is based in the US) with more than 120k Salary for a start. There's Career growth and the chance of living comfortably & enjoying life is cool compared to the State Public Service in terms of Salary. We all know that Private Organisations can decide to lay off workers at any time as there's no Job Security. Also, I don't know if Multinational Companies usually lay off only Contract Staff or they can decide to lay off Permanent Staff as well... Though, the Multinational Company have a Pension Scheme for their Staff & didn't lay off workers during this COVID-19 Pandemic as they were operating during the lockdown since they provide essential services.

I wasn't born & brought up with a Silver Spoon and I never pray to struggle in life henceforth as Poverty must die. I'm a Second Class Upper graduate with proven abilities and outstanding performance as I'm a Problem Solver.

I need the assistance of experienced Nairalanders as your advice and point of views with detailed explanations will be highly appreciated.

please, I know what i am saying. I have work in Lagos state civil service before. It only look like a great place to work in your eyes because you are an insider. Those working there are also looking for a better opportunity.

Pick the multinational company job if

You want to rise quickly in the next 1 to 5 years

You can be smart enough to invest in other profitable ventures.

Want to gain experiences and get exposed and make contacts with people that are doing well in their different works of life which will motivate you to aim higher in live.

Then pick the civil service if

You want job security while you grow gradually
Say 1 to 15year.

You want to have time to do other things or business which the multinational company may not give you.
Don't be too excited about the promotion of a thing, rivers state government has not promoted for over 10years now, if the multinational will give you the chance of relocating abroad, go for it

Bros eee, goan take the multinational job jare. I have been opportuned to work in SPDC as a contract staff. If contract staff can be well paid and taken care of, imagine how the staffs fare. Right now, an SPDC contract staff in Production department collects an average of N315,000 to N450,000. A staff of level 8 or lower collects from N800,000 and above, together with periodic training home and abroad. Its much better to work in a multinationational.

I had same experience, I opted for Multinational. When we pray the Lord's prayer, "we say give us this day". people still take up the "secured" govt job and die for one reason or the other. There are also people who have worked for 20 - 30 years in Multinationals. A company that did not lay off its workers or stop activities during covid lockdown is a sign of cruise.

My second advice for you is that you should take your job seriously, put in your best and be of great value to the MULTINATIONAL company.

I responded that way because he was talking of future (pension&security). I am only trying to tell him that investment can bring more money to him than the pension, if he end up working in the an multinational company.

I would go for the multinational job, to get to the top of a govt job is still a man know man world, do you know any top govt official? and again 18 years is a long time things might change before then Nigeria might still get worse, a multinational job gives you more room for growth and if you are hardworking and ambitious you might get to the top easy as a multinational company reward for hardwork and talent is guaranteed compare to a govt job where someone with long legs can easily overshadow your blessings.

They are just saving part of their workers salaries via all these pension mgt companies.By the time the worker will retire reccesion must of erroded the cash.
The money saved by private pension fund managers cant carry the retired workers for a long time after retirement.So it doesnt qualify as a pension.

You can calculate it.

The govt guys get real time pension in sync with the current economy till they die.

All this pension fund managers have infiltrated private companies with their pension things.

Every job pays in two coins, the experience and the money. Take the experience that is what you need to be great in life. You will notice that I did not talk Pay or which that pays higher salary it’s intentional. You can be great both as a public servant or as a Multinational staff but your greatness will always be built on your experiences in life. I wish you the best.
