ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Pancakeey(f): 9:05am On Oct 05, 2020 |
ASUU embarked on a two weeks warning strike in March and this strike got extended by the lockdown. Now, schools are resuming but all schools under ASUU are at a big disadvantage at the moment. The FG has refused to look into the demands of ASUU and ASUU have also, refused to work till their demands are met. So the question is who is at fault? Is it ASUU that has no other way of asking for their demands except going on strike? Or the FG that has neglected the Education sector? FRIENDLY REMINDER: THE STRIKE IS GOING TO SEVEN MONTHS NOW! |
Re: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Xsem(m): 11:00am On Oct 05, 2020 |
The strike in the whole truth is just 2 months old , it started on March, we went on lockdown ending of march till September. In fact, the strike action is not even upto 2months old if you analyse critically. So if ASUU don't make their demands through strike actions, which other viable way can you think of? The govt here doesn't value education. Compare the case of NLC and ASUU. Immediately they coughed strike, see how frantic fg was to resolve the strike. You people keep saying ASUU should find another alternative, which other alternative. Common protest to demand for better government by the citizens is met by the brutal force and resistance of the security personnel of the country. MODIFIED: I assumed about 2 months because it's now that westarted feeling the strike. Who cares about strike when the country is on total lockdown? So those months we were on lockdown don't count to me. I hope you guys get my point now 6 Likes 1 Share |

Xsem: The strike is six months. Let's face it ASUU could have carried out online classes during the lockdown but they didn't because they were on strike. So yes the strike is 6 months not two months. Strike doesmt start when ASUU sends us home. No. Strike starts when we don't have classes. there have been times we've been on strike and peopl still stayed in school. Strike is 6 months 3 Likes |

Pancakeey: Well, in that sense you might assume so but how many schools have the resources to conduct online classes ?? Even if the schools provide the lecturers with those, how about the students? |

jaiyefavour: Lecturers have not been paid since either March or April oh |
Re: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by Xsem(m): 5:26pm On Oct 05, 2020 |
olawalepopoola: Well, most private universities are very much equipped to undertake such. The average Nigeria citizen complains of the meager fees being paid in the fg and state owned universities, how much more what is obtainable in private universities like covenant, Babcock, igbenedion , madonna etc. Those private schools are were rich men, top men, ship captains , politicians keep their wards because either they need to correct their excesses or they don't want them to go to waste. In private university, freedom is tightly limited. Those big men since they don't have time to protect, control or train their wards resort to flying them to abroad schools or private universities within the state. So, you can't compare. They're meant to have the resources if not, they have failed just like our own failed national universities. |

It's actually The FG not ASUU. Even during the pandemic, if the FG had paid them, they would have called off the strike since .. So in conclusion, ASUU has been on strike for close to seven months now |

Xsem:Over the years, i have learnt to be neutral on ASUU vs FG saga, both parties are problem to Nigeria university sub-sector. FG do not value education so does ASUU. About an alternative to strike? In 2019 ASUU were on strike and it was weeks to elections, ASUU were approached by INEC and they accepted to conduct the general elections, that period was a golden opportunity ASUU had to get atleast 50% of their demands met, but they showed that they were more of politicians than academicians. Strike does not take anything away from the goverment, Buhari might decide to allow ASUU go on strike for the remaining three years of second term and nothing will happen, who bears the finally lose? Students and jnr Lecturers whose salaries will be withheld, ask any lecturer, pressure is on ASUU president from his members to call of the strike so they can be paid. In Nigeria public universities, strike remains the most unthought option. 1 Like |

Saintinoo: My thought exactly. The students need to protesr against the fg or state govt to display their grievances and displeasure. This i believe will ginger the govt to do the needful. We might also protest not only by going out enmasse but also in writing. But the spoiler is that you might come out to protest and lose your life. The govt is losing ooo, you know they generate money from our fees. It's part of the IGR we are talking about |

Saintinoo:I'm also a student so i know what it feels like to be at home. I'm only answering op's question about which party is at fault On the part of students i don't think there's anything students can do |
Re: ASUU Or FG: Who Is To Blame For The Six Months Strike? by TopeQs: 8:44pm On Oct 05, 2020 |
Saintinoo: I love the way you think... especially the election part, ASUU list a golden opportunity to hold the FG, FG would have been forced to make a sweet deal with ASUU because politicians will do anything to get to office but ASUU lost that by partaking in that election, now FG could care less.. They could hold a meeting with Labour in less than a week but won't meet with ASUU after months of strike? that's an insult to everyone in education. This country is lost to clueless, selfish and stubborn leaders. |
