Just like I aired my opinion, you can air yours, especially without insults, that's how intelligent arguments are made.

In the past, it use to be an important rail network connecting trades from trans saharan africa into the inlands of Nigeria, Maiduguri is a huge commercial hub in the northeast despite the insurgency, the old railway line surely deserves to be restored.

Why are all the rails linked to the North though?

Abuja to port Harcourt is good, Abuja to Lagos is okay, Abuja to the east is fine cause Abuja is the Centre of Nigeria but Maiduguri?

I don't get the rationale behind it.

Please, you must not post on social media is not by force, your comment lack wisdom. NIGERIA is a country not your village, the proper thing to do is to link the entire country through rail system because everyone in the country has the right to go anywhere from anywhere. NIGERIA should link every West African countries to Nigeria by rail. That is how to increase your influence on economic development

I understand. But my point is, what economic value does it add to extend the rail as far as Maiduguri?

Alot of, maiduguri is not a ghost town, people travel there alot

Also I think they are using the colonial blueprint

The railway line built in pre colonial connected maiduguri to portharcourt

Northerners don't deserve railways. Only southerners do.

Some of you don't even know what you have become.

I understand. Maiduguri is a risky investment if you ask me.

I think it will be wrong for a reasonable government to exclude the state in a master plan as if the insecurity will not end.

They are connecting the south to the north; that's a good thing

Besides, Maidugri also deserves to feel governance because they are Nigerians

I didn't even know there were old rail way lines in Maiduguri. I assumed only from Kaduna to Kano had the rail lines. The old ones I mean.

The one I totally condemn is Niger Republic.

I'm okay with border rails but I wish it will be Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic borders. It will aid easier intercountry trade and commerce.

This money could be used to fix all inter state federal roads and ensure security patrols we don't need the trains

And enough of the money would be saved
Trains are better, it will reduce the stress on the roads.....the roads are easily bad because of stress from too much loads, must of these trailers that carry goods from the north will be reduced on the roads......

Las-las na $1.2bn dem go use do the reconstruction (no be say na new construction oh)

They would use $150 mil for the deep seaport and $50mil for the industrial line. The rest would be for them and the contractors to share. we know their way, but later they would come on the media to claim holier than thou. blaming the previous administrations after 5+ years in power.

This Country is decayed and cannot be redeemed. The old fools are taking us for a ride. Mortgaging our future. Yet the youths would still choose to vote these fools in.

True Round Table Restructuring is the only way !

I weep for this country.

Niger Republic has no port, they rely on neighboring countries for impor and export. If they choose Nigeria, movement of their goods will be easier through rail direct from Lagos.

Chad, Niger and Mali are landlocked

Thats the original master plan made by the colonial masters.

To me its very reasonable alot of u don't really know what's happening up north, right now Bornu is one of the best place to be, they are having it on a gold Platter.

Reason y I support Bornu as the end point is, Bornu is the meeting point of 3 countries

Niger chad and Cameroon, u can't imagine the kind of trade that would open up once the route starts operation

There is some very important fact that has not been disclosed in this article and that is the proposed east to north line is a narrow guage which in this modern day is useless. Dont be deceived guys, The standard guage worldwide is Standard guage. Who builds narrow guage in this day and age. Moreover the rest of Nigeria is getting Standard guage.

Ghana Togo and Benin will be connected through Badagry 10 lanes express road with rail tracks in it. Benin Republic is doing a rail project that will stop at Kwara border.

Nigeria target Niger Chad and Mali first because they are landlocked so that they may decide to their import and export through Nigeria.
