Am glad we are finally purchasing in quantity military gear, however, there does seem to be a creeping dependence on Chinese weaponry that i am not comfortable with. Before it becomes too late we need to diversify, get from the Russians, and the Turks. Standardization is a good thing when you produce your own weapons, it is a hindrance when all your gear is produced by another nation. |

Fynline:come to think of it has the Army finished paying for the three helos. Because I'm sure in 2018/2019 budget they listed it but I haven't seen it since in other budget. NA just finished a big hangar in Lagos and os building one in Borno so maybe they'll soon receive it |

Daverytimes: The problem of purchasing Russian weaponry in this trump administration is that Nigeria might fall victim to CAATSA sanctions. This is the reason we have not received our 7 remaining MI-35M helicopters. We can only realistically purchase top of the line Russian weaponry if we get guarantees from the US that we would not be sanctioned. Turkish weapons, Turkish drones are filled with imported Western components. Intact Canada has stopped exporting parts for Turkish drones, Turkey cannot deliver T-129 helicopters to Pakistan because of sanctions, it remains to be seen if Turkey can deliver Milgem Corvettes to Pakistan. This leaves us with just a few options to buy from, China remains are best source for high quality weapons. That's the reason why it's a good thing that Nigeria is investing in local production of weapons. 1 Like |

Honestly, we need to do something about the remaining MI-35s. CAATSA sanctions will remain regardless of who wins the election. It is a bullying tactic to ensure countries have little choice apart from patronizing US arms industries and American politicians have benefited massively. Many are not even happy that we are getting capable platforms like the Tucanos at all sef. This is the time for policy change in Nigeria, we cannot continue to stand on the fence where our national security is threatened. 3 Likes |

kenpaul0: No way. We will never do that. Tomorrow, they would tell us that they gave us weapons technology. Go online and see the hate their people have for Nigeria. Them SA people would go to extreme lengths to undo Nigeria because they want to be Giant of Africa. They never admit our help during the dark arpatheid days. Especially the uneducated ones. Please, we should NOT ever partner with SA. I would have ignored if not for the visitors reading this thread. We should partner with China or Russia. They would help us if we ask. Not SA please. |

jln115: Your defence industry is currently on life support, and you know this. Most of what is produced by other manufacturers in RSA are mostly MRAPs, there are already 5 different types of MRAPs produced in Nigeria and 3 types are in service. It's hard to say what strategic gain Nigeria would get from importing South-African arms. The Reva MRAPs bought in 2015 are all sitting in a bone yard. With South-African arms, No Transfer of Technology, No Bueno!! 4 Likes |

kenpaul0: They only have 9 attack choppers in active service. Even with those Choppers you still are stuck with the Turkish problem. Parts are almost all imported from Europe. It's just best you buy directly from Europe. |

kabe1:As I said before, our arms industry isn't Denel alone. Weapon sales in 2019 was the highest its been since 2012, and Top 20 in the world.................hardly on life support now is it . What SA exports that Nigeria doesn't make: Missiles, Armed Drones, Attack Helicopters, C4ISR Systems, Grenade Launchers, Howitzers, IFVs ect ect ect According to Eeben Barlow the REVA mraps preform tremendously well, Its your Big foot mraps from China that didn't do so well And almost all our latest exports are done with ToT. |

kabe1:its 12 operational with 11 in service and 1 with Denels test and development centre .........Also no parts are imported they all are manufactured by Denel. "Rooivalk Attack Helicopter (AH-2A) is a Denel product. Denel Aeronautics a subsidiary of the Denel is the Design Authority and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) " 1 Like |

jln115: So you did lose a Rooivalk in accident? Most of the helicopter parts are imported from Europe. Yes Denel is the OEM of the Rooivalk, not the OEM of the parts and components used in manufacturing the Rooivalk. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 12:43pm On Oct 09, 2020 |
jln115: The funny thing is the Bigfoot is still in service, while the Reva's are all kept in the bone yards. Most of the items you listed above are manufactured by Denel. Denel cannot fulfill orders, and have been losing contracts left right and center. In fact the CEO recently resigned his position, just like the previous CEO. "Denel could not deliver a paltry 6 units of T-5 artilleries to the SANDF, how would they now be able to deliver to Nigeria?". 1 Like |

kabe1: Looks like you are struggling to comprehend what I'm saying..... I said Denel isn't the South African arms industry, we have dozens of private arms manufacturers that manufacture drones, airplanes, rifles, MRAPs, IFVs ect ect ect. Denel hasn't been failing to deliver orders left right and centre as you claim, the only failed delivery was a lose making corrupt deal wrt the 40 Caspirs they would've delivered to Chad. Also the none delivery of the T5 is not Denel but because of an agreement not being reached between Denel and the Sandf Lastly source for the bolded please 1 Like |
