1. When SARS is eventually ended, trust me police brutality won't continue like we have it today. If the regular police see how SARS was disbanded as a result of mass protests nationwide, they will see the need why they should thread cautiously going forward and not incur the wrath of the woke generation of youth we have now.

2. While you were in Nigeria, those stop and search and harassment regular police officers do back then was not even up to 1/1000th of what SARS officers are doing now. Even then when you have police matters you are sure of having it solved either tru bail or bribe ( which is not what is desirable but still the probability of losing Ur life in the process is quite low)

3. I have once been arrested by policemen illegally while trying to buy recharge card inside the estate I lived then just 2 streets away from mine around 9.35pm on a staurday night. They claimed it was wandering and I was bailed next day. I would not have wished for this to have happened but believe if I'm to choose experiencing same over being accosted by SARS in broad day light I will choose to be arrested by the regular police over and over again. The element of threat to life makes the difference here.

4. If a regular police man arrests you it's quite easy for you to identify them, inform your people the station you are being taken to, etc...but with these SARS guys they would arrest you at Egbeda drive you down to Epe in an unmarked vehicle, they themselves have no clear means of identification and at that point the only thing you would have on your mind is to do everything possible to save your life.

5. What SARS is doing is not regular police behavior in any way. Regular police wants to exploit you if you don't know Ur rights, SARS care less whether you have rights or not. It's either you comply with them or you lose Ur life or a major part of your body. This is why people end up transferring everything they have in their account to them despite being legit law abiding citizens.

Before your time sef, Na him police don dey harrass us everywhere. Way back in 1994-95 as a 13yr old taking our TV to repairer na him police don Hayaj me say I should produce receipt of TV my popsie bought before I was born. TV wey don almost die wey be say na 2 slaps for back and top dey make am receive NTA7, if you want NTA2 channel 5 na 4 slaps

I think police should be allowed to serve only in their community where they are from or have family members there. That way the police are part of the communities because their wives, husbands and kids are know in the communities. They wouldn't want to misbehave when we know their family members.

FSARS can work like FBI. They have no business on the streets unless when constitutionally called upon

The problem In my opinion starts from recruitment, Law enforcement all over the world face a lot of risk to their lives and they get poorly paid. So that is enough incentive for them to be corrupt and money hungry in a lax society like Nigeria

I remember one guy that used to harrass us in the area as teenagers joined police within 2 months he was shot by smugglers around Idi-Iroko

So its not a job regular educated and calm people will likely do. Aside the officer rank, those law enforcement on the street are usually poorly educated and poorly paid

So if you are asked to face bullets to protect people while only receiving 20K a month which wont even be paid until 4 months later because one oga has sat on your salary and you cant even protest or strike like other workers or else they will jail you for mutiny then your only source of survival is to be corrupt and harrass people for money

Look at most police barracks they are usually the in squalid conditions, very dirty, the children not properly taken care of. Na barracks boys and girls dey first tear eye beause they mostly hustle for themselves

Nigerians are typically docile. When was the last time you even saw people coming out with this outrage. I didn't think Nigerians still had it in them. The truth is those people have done too much and the rot is beyond repair. I've always seen it as the only option forward.

We are not even discussing this as much as we should be doing tbvh.

The cons has always been that State Police in the hands of our desperate politicians can be fatal but we can’t shy away from the pros which far outweigh the cons.

The first step is to have a new Police Act which will decentralize policing to the state and community level. Let every state and community police themselves. We have seen that this is possible with rrslagos.

Many fears is that won’t the state be owing them salaries has state government are notorious for owing salaries. An underfunded police is dangerous not to talk of one that his salary is not forthcoming.

The structure of state policing is there, our lawmakers are just sleeping on their jobs or they don’t know what to do.

Boys know how to deal with the regular police units.

Those guys usually don't take bribes of 50k (cheapest) on the spot. They don't drive people to cash machines (from one part of the city to another, sometimes to new towns and even states) They don't accept cryptocurrencies.

I really don't blame you away guys for calling for a reform, ordinarily, this would be sensible


But SARS is a cancer. You don't bargain with cancer, you excise it or it kills the whole body.

Then again we shouldn't forget the symbolism that comes this EndSARS protest. SARS is seen as more of an instrument of terror to the general public than a terror to armed robbers. People have had their cars breakdown on 3rd mainland bridge with the RRS guys helping them out and even giving them maximum security till they had their vehicle fixed. The same cannot be said about SARS. We don't hate police, as a matter of fact we know there's police brutality everywhere including America which led to the recent BLM campaign, but we do.not want SARS as a unit to continue to oppress us unabated.

SARS being dissolved is a victory we should savor for now while getting ready to speak against other ills in the society
