May you not die on top of a woman, say Amen.

Lol, don't you know that it is some men's wish to die on top of a woman? Hugh Hefner things.

Some Nigerian men are always quick to generalize and bash Nigerian women whenever a lady makes the news for something bad for example, a married woman having extramarital affairs. But one will never see this set of hypocrites judge cheating married men in such manner. They make senseless comments and the really dumb ones go ahead to insult the wife for her husband's inability to remain faithful.

You might want to go through this thread and see for yourself

Infact men and women matter don tire me.
If men act normal, women will say, he is not man enough.
if he goes the other way round, he is too hard on me.

that is a big lie!
it will still be the same problem.those that want to cheat will cheat
Nobody said they won't cheat. Cheaters will always cheat. Women too

Where I'm appalled is the idea of some men rubbing it into their wife faces because they know she can't do anything or in a situation where he secretly cheats and confronted but instead of working on the marriage, continues because he knows he can get away with it. That is alter disrespect.

Don't let nobody disrespect you. Cheating can never be a mistake. A mistake is loosing your keys, and not sharing body fluids with someone. Period.

Oga what you just said isn't accurately correct i have seen several families where the wives have the bulk of the family's responsibilities on their shoulder. we should stop this egocentric rubbish
Hol up! .. All what his write up entails is nt 4 d woman to own up d larger percent of d responsibities but to own as much or close to. Get me!

Go to Ebonyi State and see how women struggle to feed both children and husband. Y'all should stop this excuse. I know women that carry the family. This mentality is flawed really.

Ebonyi is a state amongst 36 states and one capital. I deal with norms not exceptions. If the woman feels bad that she is provider yet is being cheated on, she is free to divorce the man. I don't see anything wrong with that; her decisions, her life.

According to you, the reason for the double standards in marriage is because the husband shoulders more financial responsibilities. There are cases where husbands cry on nairaland because their wives earn more and contribute a larger percentage to household finances.I can even remember a thread I saw where a woman said she shoulders all the finances in the house and she was thoroughly bashed.

The issue here is not about what people would say but how men excuse cheating married men with comments such as 'it is a man's nature to cheat' or 'the wife must be doing something wrong' and turn to bash cheating women, casting aspersions on the female gender.

Yes. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. Same applies in daily situations. Anyone who is a major provider naturally wants to make the rules and do whatever he or she likes. The vast majority of Nigerian men are the ones taking care (the bulk part) of their families, at least during early stages of married life. BTW, how come you dodged the hypergamous aspect? Does that not play a role in a woman choosing a reliable payer while she is the piper?

In cases where wives earn more than their husbands, the wives become domineering and exerting control, which corroborates my earlier point of paying the piper and dictating the tune. I don't get why she was bashed, quite unfortunate but that is her problem not mine.

Well, someone mentioned testosterone as a reason which is plausible. As for the "wife must be doing something wrong" or people casting aspersions on the female gender, well, you should know by now that many Nlders are mad but few are roaming.

Nice side stepping.

Lol!!! That lady has the genes of Diego Maradona, Abedi Pele, Ronaldinho and Jay Jay Okocha combined together. Her dribbling prowess is legendary. All of a sudden, she's only interested in one specific example (cheating) of generalization, double standards and bashing of Nigerian women by Nigerian men. Absolutely nothing else matters asides that "one, specific example."
And, isn't it interesting, yet ironical that the title of her thread is actually a generalization on its own? I mean, take a look at the title: "The Hypocrisy of Nigerian Men." How exactly does one try to point out something that they are supposedly displeased with, while at the same time they are literally committing/doing that very same thing? It beats logical reasoning...

I see you modified.
The burden of wedding expenses is on both groom and bride. The fact that the groom VOLUNTARILY decides to finance it is his own problem. Some men feel shouldering financial responsibilities makes them more manly and subsequently feel emasculated if their partners have more financial power.

Are you kidding me?This varies individually but from most things we see online, it's obvious women invest more emotions in relationships than men.

You guys don't encourage women to make the first move.In fact she is often disrespected.

Refer to the above for this.
So, emotional investment is the most important part of a relationship A relationship cannot move forward with only "emotions"

I will forever advice women to make their own money and be independent. Let your husband know you can do three times what he does when it comes to money.

From the above comments and ones from the thread, it's all about finances. Kill that financial gap and see how everything changes. They won't try it if they respect you because they know you will 100% thrive on your own and this is 21st century, there are hundreds of learned men who will marry a good, hardworking, pretty divorcee lady. Don't let Nairaland fool you.

As of the one up talking about bride price. Nobody forced you to pay. That one concern you and her kinsmen. Funny enough, how much wey you pay sef grin

Women have so much power. Some just haven't realized it yet, which is sad.

I've seen women that their hubby cheat on their faces and they won't say or do nothing SMH, thereby aiding the act. Definition of giving yourself no singlee value as a lady

Be a financially free woman from your husband and see how things turn around. Like they say, money stops nonsense.
Thanks a lot for this. I hope all Nigerian women take this advice.

The ratio of women that contributes more financially in a relationship to men in Nigeria is 2:10.
