End SARS: Buhari’s Failure To Address Protesters Led To Loss Of Lives, Properties -Alaafin

Ibadan – His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi the Alaafin of Oyo, on Monday confirmed that the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari to address the youths that protested against the police brutality led to the loss of lives and destruction of properties recorded after the protests.

Alaafin, speaking on Monday, during the stakeholders meeting that was held at the House of Cheifs, the Parliament Building Agodi Secretariat Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, stressed that, if the President Muhammadu Buhari had addressed the protesters at the appropriate time, the situation will not have gone out of hand.

The meeting which was purposely organised by the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss on the way forward on the demands of the END SARS protesters had in attendance the Governor himself, his Deputy, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Leye Oyebade, the State Commissioner for Police, CP. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu, the Garrison Commander of the Two Division of the Nigeria Army, Barrister General. Soji Ogunsugba.

Alaafin, in his speech, said, what we have witnessed today is the beginning of a phenomenal, it is the failure of the authority to rise to the occasion that led to the loss of lives and destructions of properties that we witnessed aftermath of the ENDSARS protests.

Alaafin stressed that the youths have been denied of their rights, the peaceful protest of the youths have showed us the elders what we are lacking, they showed us through the protests that they are well organized, they have shown us comportment, they organized the protests to the amazement of all of us.

It was something so easy to handle. But Buhari, being an accomplished failure, couldn't handle it.

However, considering that many are beginning to say that the man at the villa is a clone or is completely demented and only follows orders, who are we to blame poor Bubu of "unblessed" memory?

What would the president have done? Hold a physical meeting with the frontiers (state or location coordinators) of the End SARs protests 7 days into the protests which would be covered by all major media houses in the country. Those to be present at the meeting apart from the president and the youth representatives would include the Inspector General of Police, the leadership of the National Assembly, and all the state governors.

1. I would chair the meeting, read out an agenda and invite the youths to propose for inclusion into the agenda anything they felt was necessary to discuss, and adopt the agenda for the meeting.

2. We begin very elaborate and robust discussions on every issue on the agenda. The ones we can achieve as a government, we agree. The ones we can't , we give water-tight reasons why we can't achieve them.

3. All agreements made would have delivery timelines, and responsibilities would be assigned. Members of the government who have responsibilities must commit to meeting up with their deliverables within the timelines agreed or lose their jobs.

4. When timelines and responsibilities have been assigned, i would now request of the youths to immediately notify their comrades to cease protests and monitor the timelines with an agreement that if the government does not meet the timelines, the protests can continue.

5. End the meeting and immediately commence implementation.

I do not see how any reasonable person would continue protests after that.

Incognito403:

Your whole argument assumes that the EndSars protest had representatives. Have you forgotten that the government called for dialogue but they refused saying "it's a movement and has no leader or representatives".

The movement had no leader, the protests had. The Lekki gathering was being coordinated by a group, same goes for Alausa. Their representatives would be invited. Enugu protests was led by people, they should attend. Rivers' protest had leaders, they should attend. Abuja had leaders, they should attend. If the president made a broadcast inviting all these coordinators to attend, they would have gathered themselves in Abuja long ago. Didnt Davido attend a meeting with the I.G?

The truth is that we have very inept leaders, and Buhari is the most inept of them all. He would have saved this situation long ago if he had the will to make positive change. Quite unfortunately, he's only interested in being called Mr. President. Having achieved that, everything else means nothing to him.

Our Portion.

Buhari's failure is world renowned. Even his family knows he is a Dundee hence the reason Zahra was begging Nigerians to forgive him. The question is when will Buhari surprise himself by getting anything right

Truest facts. We EndSARS protesters didnt leave the streets because we wanted assuarances dt #5for5 would be taken seriously and not get lost in bureaucracy like the other 4 times SARS was scrapped.

1. His 5minute speech (reading from a paper) did not give that assurance &did not go into detail.
2. After the scrap of SARS, the IG of police immediately formulated SWAT.

Instead of sincere dialogue (which was never had), the FG instead sent the military to shut us up. All this violence is the result of failed leadership from Buhari. He should have bn in the face of the issue frequently the way sanwoolu was facing the protesters. But we all knew the governor had zero power over the police. Complete fail. He is operating like this is military era & hes answerable to nobody.

In future, any presidential candidate dt does not submit himself to presidential debates & interviews explaining his opinion on issues, should never be elected into power. That person doesnt respect democracy.

I blame the Looting carried out by"Hoodlums/Residents (channels TV )" on Buhari. If he had done/ release a sympathetic Press brief/ statements, most of the destruction could have been avoided. His lackadaisical approach to issues angered the Citizenry (Hoodlums/Residents)

Also the protesters refusing to appoint a leader and over doing it also lead to it. The very day thugs attacked they should have gone home. But they chose to continue block major roads when they could have don partial block. Summary is Nigeria has no hope. Any attempt for a revolution will lead to destruction and anarchy.

I agree with him. I said this on the first day of this protest, Buhari whether the real Buhari or the fake Buhari should address the nation..

He should have been the one to announce that SARS have been dissolved..

This issue would not have escalated to this level.. ineptitude to the highest order angry angry

But he doesn't care anyways, his kids fly government jet upandan, have secret service protection. Goes to Dubai and Germany for medical treatment
