Recently there has been a growing interest in cooking by guys around me- friends and colleagues. Three weeks ago, a senior colleague came to me saying he wants to give his kitchen a facelift. A quick look through the kitchen and there was nothing there to be lifted sef, so we started from the basics. I told him he would pay me commission, he asked how much and I jokingly said 30k. He didn’t even object, I just knew I shortchanged myself, but we move. I had to pick out utensils, kitchen decor and help him buy foodstuff. Everything was done online and delivered to the office. Easy peasy!

After that he said he wants to learn to cook and he wants bulk food too. I told him he’ll pay na, but e go wait for me to draft my timetable and pricing. I ran back to my support systems. They have always told me to stop helping friends/colleagues cook for free, so they were happy for me. We worked out pricing...

I was on my own yesterday, another friend chatted me up say e wan learn to cook. I told him he is the fourth guy with this request in a short time, what is happening? He said he isn’t the 4th, he is the 1st because he has told me before (very true). I said okay, shey you are ready now, I am ready too. E say first of all, he is craving oha soup and all his choice restaurants do not have it. I asked if he wants his first lesson to be oha soup and he said no, he wants me to give him. I say imsef go give me money. He sha reminded me he is my friend, I say ehn...na why I go give you discount. Anyway, e pay me.


My point? I have finally been making some money from my hobby.

The Point? We pay for our ignorance. Time is money, so whatever you can’t do or do not have time to do, you should pay when another does so with his/her time. Anything less is wizardry and shouldn’t be encouraged in 2020.
