ultron12345: 2.5 to 4m pa is quite much for a secondary school, especially outside lagos and Abuja. I mean Covenant University charges less than 1m per annum, I suppose. except if you're talking full boarding, where feeding and some other basics become your responsibility. Even at that, 400k per term, translating to only 1.2m pa would be more like it. Remember a good percentage of folks in those states who can afford the bills are already past secondary school training with their kids. the millennials and generation X folks who have kids in high school are on a comparatively lower financial percentile. There are also those who've already enrolled their kids in Lagos, Abuja Accra, etc. Finally, there's competition to consider. You may want to check the performance (enrollment) of schools like Faith Academy in those states versus places like Lagos and Abuja. I'm sorry if I sound pessimistic, I don't mean to. 2 Likes |

ojesymsym:Very correct, A friend of mine lives in Lagos and wanted his kids attend Faith Academy - Lagos campus. But after the regular interview, the little girl barely 10 was posted to their Kwara state campus, because of high number of candidates jostling for placement in the Lagos campus. That said I think @Lazyouths did excellent job analysing the requirements for a successful high-end international school |

Since when has high school fees become a yardstick for good education? I weep for Nigerians and their mentality, education shouldn't even be a business venture, as long as only the children of the rich can get good and quality education in Nigeria, the children of the poor who couldn't get good and quality education will always make life unbearable for all, either we like it or not. 2 Likes |

Donbrig:Just see entitlement mentality. Who gives a shit about the children of the poor? Do you know if the rich kid's father was also a pauper who fought his way through life and won? Who told you the rich are cowards?you think they are afraid of the masses? Did you hear protesters going to banana Island or some affluent sections of Ikoyi to loot? You think they don't wanna go there or don't know they can go there? What they are afraid of Is the consequence of that act, because they know mean mofos are there hired by the rich with assault rifles to take any entitled fool out with no remorse. School is not suppose to be a business?are you stupid, nigga? Some of you people's utterances on here just shows y'all to be retarded underachievers in real life, spits mehn! 5 Likes |

All primary and secondary schools should be free, except universities. The only reason private schools turned into businesses and became so expensive in Nigeria is because govt abandoned our educational sector for decades, and gave rooms for private schools. If our govt should wake up and build our public schools to standard and make it free, many private schools across the country will die a natural death. I am a business man, I don't invest or see education and hospitals as a business but humanitarian, this two sectors are unique and every Nigerian, regardless of your financial status, connections or family background should be able to have access to them without hindrances. About 98% of our leaders today never paid a dime for their education, even up to university level. Why should we deny our children the right to good education because we want to make huge profits overnight. TransAtlanticEx: 3 Likes |

ojesymsym: Good you brought this up. I keep asking myself this question. Most of the standard church owned hospitals we have were those built by the missionaries. Very few if any have been built recently. But then, we have lots of new schools springing up. I personally believe part of the reason has to do with profit. The new church schools charge good fees and make sure parents pay even before the term resumes. No parent goes there and starts asking for free education. On the other hand, we know how people attack doctors/hospitals here anytime the issue of payment for health services is brought up. Most believe they should get health services for free and the cost borne by the hospital because of some 'hippocratic oath'. I believe that's why most churches have steered clear of opening new hospitals. What happens when people turn up for urgent/emergency treatment and refuse to pay afterwards. Any action taken will bring bad publicity. That said, I believe bigger Nigerian churches can do more in terms of building new standard hospitals. Just like most of the mission hospitals set up in the past. If well run, they can also generate profit just like the schools 2 Likes |

ahiboilandgas:The rate at which Nigerians especially the poor reproduce should be regulated. Max no family should be allowed to have more than 2 kids by law. People keep reproducing destitute. Melinda Gates tried hard to help in this regards buy funding a research on birth control kits in some African countries, but propagandists turn it to something else. As things stand now Africa don't need the useless population we generate. 9 Likes |

Bakosokoto:I think they have the guts to reproduce carelessly because they are playing with them. Let the government end health subsidies, stop funding healthcare so that the health sector will be funded from the money it generates,so that nursing mothers will start paying the true health fees for birthing and catering for their children. All this subsidies here and there keep dragging this nation backwards reason the government is always broke and can't fund capital projects 1 Like |

ojesymsym:I am guessing you are talking about world class tertiary care (specialist) hospitals like what we find in developed countries. The answer is huge capital outlays and high running costs that can eat all the hospitals revenues. To build a 50 to 100 bed world class specialist hospital, location is key. For Lagos, you are looking at areas that are accessible to those that can afford the services so we are talking Ikoyi, VI, Lekki, Ikeja and maybe Yaba and Surulere. Land doesn’t come cheap. Specialist equipment are very expensive and get obsolete very quickly so you need lots of cash for frequent replacements. You will need to hire world standard specialists and surgeons to relocate and live in a ‘shit hole’ like Naija. Their salary requirements, accommodation costs and benefits/allowances in USD are huge. Don’t forget security costs and generator/fuel costs as you need 247 electricity. Also, you need to set aside lots of cash to run the hospital and pay huge salaries in fx to your expatriate doctors and specialists while the hospital’s patient base ramps up to break-even levels. We are talking at least USD25m to USD50m in total costs here. By the time you put all these into consideration, some patients will find it cheaper to just travel to India for their procedures because the fees charged in Naija will be huge due to the high running costs. Then you have the poor members of the churches (and the public) that require specialist care that the hospital cannot afford to turn back for reputational reasons. Put all these into consideration and you are staring at huge losses. Many of these organizations have carried feasibility studies and due diligence on these projects but changed their minds last minute due to concerns around commercial viability. For example, a couple of years ago, AXA Mansard planned to build a 150 room world class specialist hospital and even received debt and equity financing from local and international organizations like IFC, Africa Capital Alliance PE fund and ADB. But I don’t think this worked out as I haven’t heard anything about the project in a long time. There is huge demand for specialist care and there are some decent and semi decent specialist hospitals scattered around Lagos but these are in no way comparable to what you will find in developed countries. I believe we will see these world class hospitals as soon as the cost of doing business in Nigeria drops. Government can also do a lot to expand and better equip our Teaching hospitals that cater to the general public. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

Donbrig:If you were a profitable businessman, you would know that funding an arm of your business that don't generate revenue is meant to die over time. Education is not a right,it is luxury! That is why people take student loans that almost kill them in the west so as to get educated. Government keeps paying for education breeds corruption and diminishes quality as one government cannot fund over 150 tertiary, over 10,000 secondary and primary schools effectively. If from that your "so called" business I ask you to compulsory feed 20 more families with their children,Can you do it? Let's say you can, will you do so effectively? You will go to one house, milk no dey,the other house go say butter don finish. Everytime government,government,government... I wish I was Nigeria president even for one year,I will solve Nigeria's population and financial problems under one year by ending BS schemes. If you wanna study, pay for it.If you can't afford it,jump inside lagoon,no one cares. If you take to crime because you think the government didn't give you education,I have a well funded police that is waiting to kill you or jail you. It's that simple, really. Better to have few people with quality education that can actually bring good solutions to society than have the entire masses with half baked, dirty, underfunded, daft education 3 Likes |

It really pays for one not to loose focus of things in life, an average person wants health not hospitals, education and not schools, Food and not agriculure................................I seriously laugh when people bring up the American model of health built on having the latest medical facilities........ Nigeria today does not need the most sophisticated Hospitals when good public health sanitation routines are not adhered to..................... So many companies are dumping toxic chemicals into our water ways, nobody is challenging them,,,,,,, Farmers today are abandoning Age old practices and using all sort of chemicals on their farms, Nigerians are not voicing out......... The fact that someone is identifying public health as a path to wealth means the number of sick folks is on a geometrical rise............. I pray nobody here looses someone just because of medical fees Call it entitlement mentality but I am of the opinion that No human being should pay a dine for health services............ 1 Like |

maishai:I know it will be expensive, but that's how the west got to where it is. People actually pay for what they want or need. But Nigeria wants Armand de Brignac on a zobo budget. So why don't they quit complaining since they can't pay for quality for being "expensive"? Don't complain about jobs,power,health,education,... Nigeria just concluded a deal to sell power to Chad, this should tell you gencos and TCN is not the problem, rather discos. Now ask yourself, why is the disco segment rubbish? Because motherfuckers want power but don't wanna pay for it. Now rather than our gencos to keep wasting their power with the discos that either don't pay or reject their power, why not export to people that actually can pay for this stuff? 2 Likes |

I know you are passionate about the capitalist thing you believe in, but tone down. That said, this your approach will put blood in your hands, many years of expecting government to magically solve problems cannot be rolled back in even 10 years. The revolt will be massive. Ghana has an election in a few weeks and I saw one of their advert when a presidential candidate was campaigning that if elected, he will ensure that bikes are no longer banned, I was like politicians everywhere in Africa are the same. Always playing to the gallery without considering the long term effect of their populist campaign in a bid to win elections. TransAtlanticEx: 1 Like |

ojesymsym:You cannot revolt in my territory. You can protest peacefully not revolt. How do I do this?By making the military and security forces attractive and very well equipped. All this funds will come from the money wasting sectors I will crush to pieces, such as subsidy, eduction, health and the rest. Humans are eccentric in nature and trust me,when I give the military personnel a deal of good salary(400k+) as basic salary, free healthcare in military hospitals for them and their immediate family, and free good schools for their children, trust me they will defend my agenda with their lives and make sure no bastard masses take away what I am giving them with their bullshit entitlement mentality. So if you revolt, sorry is your name. |

In this era of hash tags, amnesty international, ICC, it will be a lost battle from the beginning I assure. Recent events and the outcomes gives a glimpse of what can happen. Many years of handouts cannot be wiped out in 10 years. I understand where you are coming from but have a discussion with 10 people today and see all 10 blame the government. A mindset change rather outright force is needed and of cause some firmness. TransAtlanticEx: 1 Like |

ojesymsym:Do you know what revolution is? People taking up arms to rise against a government and you say I shouldn't give them the same measure? The only reason the military is being questioned now for the lekki shooting is because the protesters were termed "peaceful" at that toll gate. No one can say anything if the protesters were armed, violent and anarchious. If I was in power and wanted to disperse that protest,I'd put armed thugs in the crowd and make them fire first, with lights and CCTV on. Then the protesters will be termed violent so the military can unleash terror on them, its common sense. |
