michoim: Huncle, the world has moved I don't mean in the context of mechanized agriculture My parents have a farm and garden, but they don't make such ridges They engage labourers to do it, plant it and get labourers to weed it as well. However, they just harvest it. The point is, being a farmer is not a big deal. The problem is that it is not encouraged in the south But I noticed a paradigm shift in the South West, where young people are increasingly crowdfunding companies to help commercialize farming. This is something the entire south has to imbibe Famine is looming on the horizon 2 Likes |

The wicked northern leaders should also ban themselves from collecting free oil money from the niger delta. How can they be thinking of stopping selling their foodstuffs to the niger delta while their region still depends heavily on oil money to develop their agriculture and also fund infrastructures in the north? 3 Likes |

When these uneducated Northerners issue baseless threats I begin to wonder. The food supply you do down South is pure business which you gain your profits from after the supplies same way goods are taken from South up North for business gains as well. This country is truly a zoo# What beats me is how some fools from the South are thriving so hard to preserve the zoo. 1 Like |

tutudesz: The bolded, A lot actually. Onions and Tomatoes for a start. Southern Nigeria is really poor in farming compared to the north. That is a fact. During the civil war after the Military cut off food supply to the eastern region, the war was effectively won. And we have still not learnt the lessons from that unfortunate time. 2 Likes |

Arrewa:. Where do you know is the east and how many nautical miles is ndoki to the Atlantic, you guys will just stay one place and be spewing trash, the east has food and access to the sea, in my village people can stay for months without any food that is not locally cultivated, you think the east is only aba and onitcha, for your information many adjourning states in the south south all come to onitcha and aba to buy those your so called food from the north. Don't also forget that we have big business men who can bring in the food stuffs, wether from the north or even outside Nigeria 6 Likes |

Queseda:That is market forces for you. But if it persists for too long, by next year, onion farms will spring up everywhere. If I tell you no village woman in Ebonyi buys northern tomatoes, you will say I'm lying. Beans is not a popular food in the east, especially for villagers. 6 Likes |

See them! Commenting rubbish! I tell you people! These Northerners are tribalist and can never change! Is it not oil from the south you heartless animals are depending on? If we stop buying things from the North na who una wan sell to? Chad or Niger republic? I don’t even eat una dead and local northern rice and I will never eat it? If not for that foolish slowpoke of a president who wants to Choke local rice down the throat of Nigerians, nobody! I repeat nobody buys Northern rice. If it’s cow meat, that one na no go area! I don’t even eat it for fear of prostrate cancer. If iced frozen fishes can be imported, flooding the entire Southern region then rich and natural tomatoes can also be imported from Spain, Live stocks such as cattle can be imported from Argentina, rice already surplus from Benin republic or Thailand and Indonesia, rich Onions be imported from China by our Igbo brothers at a very cheap rate than what it’s been sold right now. So y’all get your facts right. We need to break up to see who will really suffer. We have the oil and a blessed tropical forest region! The North will suffer if we eventually break away from them and we will treat any intrusion or attack from the north as an act of war! Nigeria needs beak up for real! 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Redcrafton: The truth is that southern nigeria realies heavily on the north for the supply of foodstuff. is because the south cant produce, no. its just most southern youths go for blue/white collar jobs. The north own farming in Nigeria. |

angelfallz:Charlie, forget. that was those days not now. See, if those southern governors are serious, we need a model to grow onions and tomatoes using technology, it will be very easy , if so why do we use fertilizers in farming and buy improved seeds in lab from abroad especially ? 2 Likes |

I will rather wait for the North who are ready to sell his products 1% profit margin than the Southern who are not ready to negotiate their 100% profit margin. |

[s] Arrewa:[/s] Respect kee u there! Ebonyi, Omoghor ugbenu, Awba ofe mmiri etc are Rice farming community. Abakaliki rice is what? We send palm oil to North We send Garri to North We have oil We have native cows and goats We have varieties of beans like akidi etc Otuocha and Ebonyi yam are enough for us We are industrialist, your people leave Onitsha market everyday in convoys to North after purchasing our locally manufactured products. There is nothing we gain free from North. Absolutely Nothing. Ur agbada wearing politicians are being paid from our God given crude oil. Let the country break, let's see who will survive. There is famine in the North as we speak, if u claim to farm, why are you hungry? Why are Ur almajiri trouping to south and east to look for menial job? I pray God answer our prayers and break this cage of a country. Chad and Somalia will be competing with North in 2years 6 Likes 1 Share |

jalaludeen1: lols, Very Myopic of you... Ibos are special breeds... I'm Yoruba though.. Who goes to farm during Wars?... Almost all the able bodied Men are drafted into the Biafran Army, So that's not a point... If the North stops sending food down South, Very Simple... I trust my IBO brothers , That is when you will see Investment in Agriculture , When Benue refused selling Yam because they wanted to EXPORT... did it affect ANY REGION ?... Every region has human capital to make it successful.. Enough of this Balderdash... Every REGION will be okay... 7 Likes |
