The Former Ambassador Of Nigeria to Spain and Nigeria Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation Bianca Ojukwu shared pictures on her Facebook page of her quest to see the endangered species of the Great White Africa Rhinoceros .....

‘IN SEARCH OF THE WHITE RHINO......
So, we set out on Safari, on a quest to find the rare White Rhino.... At the Goche Ganas Safari Wilderness, Our Safari guide had warned that we might not sight it for the entire duration of the tour. Whilst we might run into Giraffes, Zebras, springboks, etc, we would be extremely lucky to sight the white Rhino.....
The White Rhino ( which is actually Slate grey in colour ) is the largest extant species of Rhinoceros and it has 2 species: the SOUTHERN WHITE RHINO and the NORTHERN WHITE RHINO. The southern white Rhino lives in just 5 countries- SouthAfrica, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Uganda.
The Rhino population has drastically declined due to uncontrolled hunting and illegal poaching, and so the species has now received a ‘Near Threatened’ species status.
These Rhinos are killed principally for their horns which are smuggled out of these countries and sold for millions of dollars to be used in traditional Asian medicines and potions.
Most Rhinos in captivity today are SOUTHERN WHITE RHINOS. Sadly, there are only two NORTHERN WHITE RHINOS left in the world today, and they are both females , and they are maintained under 24 hour surveillance and armed guard in Kenya.

I am so happy to have persevered in our quest to find the White Rhino during this Safari trip. We even set up a picnic stand at it’s habitat!!! Truly a dream come true!’
