When I received the message to come interview for Appl3, it was a different kind of excitement for the "achievement".

This was an opportunity to come work for one of the most recognized and prestigious companies in the world. What an Honor. smiley
The recognition was a big enough Win for me, I remember how long and hard I worked in Nigeria and what gains I got from it - very little.

I did the interviews, too many stages for my liking - shey na for NAsA abi na for neurosurgery dem wan employ me??
Cleared the HR, hiring manager and faced the final stage made up of a multidisciplinary team of 8 different interviews spread over the entire day.
At the end, I did not make it through - getting a job of this kind sometimes hinges on luck, not a function of what you know. I did my best and it was evident when weeks later (roughly 2 weeks ago), I was invited to come interview for another team at Appl3.

I declined, the stress from numerous interviews was too much, I had gotten and started a new job and needed time to recover.

Finally - Do not be like TwitterLady below, come to yankee where your hard work will be rewarded once you do almost the exact same hustling+bustling you are doing in Nigeria or even less...
Good morning Nigerians and Goodnight my yankee people. I'm out for the night.

Lemme keep this here... I have crafted a way to ensure my naija work experience did not and will not go to waste.
It has to be counted whenever I apply to jobs here. Will explain later - ElectroMech, Electricals and Electronics.

Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world. Mackynaija, do you live in the Bay Area?
Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by QuinArewa: 11:46am On Nov 07, 2020
@MackyNajia.

You are doing great, your consistency is topnotch.
Please I need a second opinion on an issue, it's kind of urgent.

Which Engineering has more prospects for International students? Environmental or Industrial?

I got a hint that Environmental graduate students at A and M Kingsville struggle to get Co-ops and Internships unlike Industrial Engineering students.

Please can you confirm this?

Also what department does better? Stydents from Env or Industrial?

Thanks. The answer is straight forward -

Environmental graduate = Environmental engineer

Industrial graduate = Industrial, Manufacturing, Process, Quality Engineer, Supply Chain Analyst, Operations Research Scientist, Data Analyst, Data Scientist, Safety Specialist... The opportunities are numerous
These are the job roles I can remember by heart.

If one can only be admitted into Environmental dept based on their Bsc, they'll need to do a switch a semester after resumption.
Industrial department MIGHT only be willing to accept 1 of the 3 courses done under Environmental dept. But if one goes informed, they'll take courses upfront applicable to Industrial dept, then,2 or more courses can be accepted.

Hope I have been able to convince and not confuse you that doing Industrial Engineering is more viable.
The Department sef easy to survive while giving you space/chance/freedom & opportunity to pursue woman. grin

MackyNaija:
While I was working fulltime, onsite daily during the pandemic lockdown, I started writing certifications related to quality engineering - this helped me alot.

I was chasing 5 items at the time -
Taking certifications which would lead to making the move to a new job in a different state with a bigger title and more earnings.... This wouldn't be easy...

My targets were aligned in that particular order.

I prepared for and took the first Certification while applying for jobs and made my Linked1n profile open to new opportunities - it's a games of numbers, the more one applies to, the better the chances. I was qualified and an almost exact match for a bulk of the jobs I applied to but still got rejects. Companies no get joy.

Dismissed many prospects from Linked1n because they were in the Bay Area, concentrated on jobs outside and got interview 1 where they set the panel interview 3weeks out and cancelled it 2 hours before the scheduled time. They said someone they had given an offer had accepted it - unprofessional to have scheduled me while offering people the job.
This one pain me, I had left preparing for my exams for this entire job. Time wasted!

Interviewed with company 2 where 8weeks after interviewing with the VP, they keep saying they are yet to make a decision.
This opportunity almost took me back to Texas, guess it wasn't meant to be. Senior title, low cost of living.

Companies 3 and 4 came calling via linked1n and since I was So Sure of going to work for company 2 in Texas, I decided to interview with these new ones just for the exposure. They were Bay area companies, I had no interest in staying here...

Glad I didn't blow them off, I finally accepted the offer from company 4. Company 3 was Appl3, yes the almighty Apple Inc. cheesy

Six months ago, I had 5 problems, solving only one would have been a Huge achievement -
Get Certified
Leave California
get a New Job
with Higher Job Title
make More Money

I achieved 5 outta 6 - Certified by the world recognized body for quality, got a new job as a Senior Engr with a 12% salary increase, then added and solved problem number 6! cheesy
because once problems finish, you need to create a new one and solve it! That how I inherited sweet problem number 6. kiss

You can switch easily. Just contact your academic advisor. Note that you'll have to take a couple of extra courses to make up for lost time which will inadvertently lead to anything from 1 to 4 extra semesters depending on your current standing.

The resumes are intimidating. It goes to show that there is an exponentially increasing pool of talents from all over the world flocking into the United States for a better and more rewarding life. I would encourage fellow Nigerians to explore academic opportunities or sport scholarships to the United States or any civilized & industrialized community. Nigeria is way behind and it’s really depressing to see the trajectory the country is taking. undecided

Wow,

I had to read this thread for good three days to get to this page. I must say I'm ready fired up. seeing your success has whet my desire to travel out, although I'm in the medical line.

A quick question, what's the employment prospects for a Physiotherapist in the states? I have a physiotherapy degree (in view). I also have a HND in Pharmaceutical Technology (Distinction) considering my age(26) I intend to work in Nigeria for few years -just for the experience though!

Then proceed with practicing abroad. Although it is likely to change because this country Nigeria is heading towards the abyss and I just want to leave the for the sake of my sanity.

I'll love your honest response.

NB. I don't have any relatives outside nor do I know anyone in the USA.
