To the gurus in the house... I have a few questions. 1. What's your take on concrete countertops as opposed to HDF, MDF, or marble. 2. Is concrete flooring/polishing a cheaper alternative to tiling? For some context, once I am through with plastering, I am seriously considering a lot of DIY for the remaining part of the house, particularly cabinets, wardrobes, chairs, and flooring. JustCryptos: Do you live in Nigeria? I ask this because for some reason the average Nigerian that you’ll deal with will continuously persuade you to just do as they do here and it becomes tiring. 1) In my opinion concrete countertop offers a very unique alternative that is still intriguing to me. The issue is the product support. Thankfully more folks like Brabus are using marine wood because you will need that to come up with crisp quality. I intend to just use plywood. All the materials you’ll need are readily available. 2) If left to me I would love to have polished concrete floor. I’m yet to find any outfit that’ll do inside work though. For some reason they just like outside flooring which some of them do fantastically. I’ll add a video from someone in Ghana that moved from the UK. He did a concrete counter top. I’ll add a link. |

n3xt: Lovely. Over the next few months, I'll start buying my DIY tools. In-between, what's the mix ratio? Can our regular sand and cement mixture achieve this? 1 Like |

=EgunMogaji2 Yes, I live in Nigeria. Never travelled out as a matter of fact. However, education should make you think out of the box. For me, it's all about functionality and cost. Is it cheaper? Is it better? Is it durable? Is it safe? 1. Plywood should work. With some sanding, you can achieve that fine look. 2. I intend to do a small text run with my kitchen or dinning before deciding on tiling or not. 3 Likes |

JustCryptos: You need a low water to cement ratio when working on projects like this to achieve maximum strength. If too much water is used, it will evaporate leaving air pockets which makes the slab weak. Do 0.42pt water, 1pt cement, 2pt sand and 3pt granite. It’s important you use concrete mixer for a project like this. |

Greetings to the house. I am looking at the picture of this roof. It is not an old roof but I can see discoloration at the edge of the roof. Is this because the roof is not tall enough and rain water is not draining off or is it the quality of the roofing sheet?
