Good day People,

I have a small kobo kobo bungalow project somewhere around Gudugba, Ifo. I need an "Engineer" to handle the project, I don't seem to be satisfied with the quality of work done on the site.

Work is still at foundation level

My Ogas in the house, I need recommendations, you can also send a message or quote me if you can handle the project

I have 2 plots of land (facing the expressway) around that area for sale. Just in case you have friends still interested in acquiring land around that area.

When roofs fail it becomes a disaster. Everything could be destroyed.

POP
Furniture
Electronics
Electrical

I agree completely.

However, in one of my personal projects, I went for the lowest gauge in the market and till date there has not been any sign of visible defect or leakage.

I found out that the quality of job done by roof installers matters more than the quality of the sheets installed.

By the way, where are you based? What’s your major discipline?

I have a lot of people in various locations handling stuffs for me though. So, there’s tendency we do stuffs together in not-too-distant future.
Based in Lagos. Discipline is Accounting. Currently I freelance and manage inventory (stocktaking) for businesses.
No problem. Thanks.

We’re saying the same thing.

You see you took care and hired the right artisan. As far as materials I think we overbuild in Nigeria.

One of us here, I forgot his name wanted to do a roof with just solar panels. I told him it wouldn’t work and gave him other options instead of just putting the solar panels on wood rafters without aluminum.

It ended in disaster that’s what I’m talking about.

So I don’t scrimp on foundation or roof. My roofs here are .45 long span.

The act of or tendency to cheat, can be found in anyone, irrespective of race or colour.

I have been cheated by a Cab driver in UAE (Dubai) who comes from Pakistan to hustle in Dubai. He took us from our Hotel (Akas Inn) from Sharaf DG/Al Bashir and cheated with trip counting, making us pay more.

A bus driver who's a female, cheated us also in Auckland New Zealand, cause we had no idea of their currency. In come countries, they still use coins. Hence you may not really understand.

We're talking about Nigerians being cheats because we live here.

It's same way Donald Trump's crying that he has been cheated, because he believes there are crooks in America. After all, Trump himself cheated the American system in 2017 by paying less tax.

Criminals every where.

Lowest gauge or not as long the quanlity of production can withstand the test of time.
I once drove around in east of Sydney (most expensive neighbourhood of Australia) majority of the houses has aluminium longspan and they still look beautiful and classy, other part of the country likewise. Observation: not the qualities of materials used but how you used them, durability and quality can be found in all products in my opinion.

I am still trying to figure-out what you mean happened in 2014?
Are you referring to issues you had with people like @Qc1 issues? @Maverick issues?, @Brag3 issues?, @EuroMillion issues?, @3Strike issues?
Except you are very specific, l am lost.

BTW,
DIY is not just about saving money alone, it is also about empowering yourself to be able to do things yourself but even more about the FREEDOM and the KNOWLEDGE you gain, gives you to use at any time you want.
I keep learning new things everyday.

So many Women, my own wife inclusive, can service their Car, changing filters and replacing Oils, using the right equipments, with a little help from YouTube.
Buying a Car by yourself, is not a rocket Science, in these day and age of Google, Online Dealership Displays, not to mention that anyone can walk-into a Shop and the Assistant is there to help you out. I have been buying cars since l bought the first one wayback in 1992 and have lost count, l still bought one just before the Lockdown in March.
So, whats the big deal here?

That bold part is so true!

_____

We don't overbuild.

Down to the early 90s we built properly. Bang from the 2000s we underbuild now.

Low foundations

Foundations without german floor (DPC)

Iron and rubbish Asian doors everywhere

PVC ceilings (Dear Lord) everywhere

Inadequate columns and beams, some without lintel

Low mix ratio resulting in poor quality blocks everywhere.

Fake roofing sheets everywhere

You previously talked about your home gate with a certain requirement of ground beam. Is that overbuilding? Some said yes on this forum.

Do you more time? I can still go on and on if you do.

We don't overbuild. On the contrary, we underbuild for the most part, poor quality homes.

Anyone can cheat, doesn't really matter where he/she comes from,......what I hate about Nigerian artisans is trying to make argument that defies science and conventional procedures to convince you. Hence I prefer to speak with an architect or civil engineer.

Australia is the world capital of bungalows. I mean fantastically designed bungalows. No where else in the world you can find superbly designed bungalows per square meter.

Give it to Down under when it comes to bungalows. I'm always blown away.

By God's grace, my retirement home will be a bungalow and I know where to go for the design.

Exactly, their bungalows are modest, not over exaggerated and don't need excessive space to site them, those on big lands are dawn with beautiful greens......my next builds will be bungalows.
That's where I took more interest in aluminium longspan.

By a bundle, he might mean 100 kg.

Making money in Nigeria is very easy grin (joking)

In May this year, I was asked to pay N108,000 for 100 kg of POP sponge in Onitsha, I refused because Enugu told me to bring N110,000, considering transportation, I came to Enugu and delayed for a week, I bought the 100 kg for N120,000 a week later, with abeg grin

Now the stuff is selling for about N250,000, don't you think we should be selling building materials instead? If I had money, I would have bought up to 1000kg, and by now I will be selling them for serious appreciation. Same thing land speculators do, same thing currency speculators do.

Of course, using 20+ bags of cement for gate installation is an overkill but by my design there are certain part of my build that must be quality upfront (the public area).
