Customary marriage A.K.A traditional marriage is a legally binding form of marriage in Nigeria. But we are used to double-deck marriage I.e trad, registry, white Altogether. To the poster asking if she’s legally married yes you’re legally married and can obtain certificate from a customary court. The visa officers reviewing files are aware of the forms of marriages in Nigeria, it shouldn’t be alien to them.

Wao, ..It would be nice if such certificate can be obtained from a customary court without having to go through an actual court wedding since it won't be possible to do one now.

copr is canceled when you add spouse, she can't travel unless she and her husband are issued new ppr and copr

If you added spouse after landing/soft landing it won't be cancelled. Hope for the best

this is not correct. You can choose to marry at anytime you wish.

Me sef shock at that guy. It beats my imagination that people dish out response to an issue they don't understand. PFL on top marriage Haba!

I am not understanding! Are you an IRCC agent?

You will most likely receive a Procedural Fairness letter.

Any reason why you got married 2-3 weeks after PPR?

Hello Team,

Please can anyone who did CES evaluation recently confirm the total amount that was paid. I got a total fee of USD311 (Inclusive of international courier services) as against USD210 that i read on this forum.

Kindly provide clarity on this.

Thank you.

Marriage must be valid where it took place and under Canadian law
A marriage that took place abroad must be valid both under the laws of the jurisdiction where it took place and under Canadian federal law in order to be considered legal for immigration purposes. A marriage that is legally recognized according to the law of the place where it occurred is usually recognized in Canada, but the onus is on applicants to prove that their marriage is legal.

My opinion (others might also give a contrary view) would be to travel with your COPR so its doesn't expire and then do a spousal application for your wife. Please bear in mind that the spousal route takes about a year but its safer so you don't lose out on both ends instead of just waiting endlessly. Once COPR expires, chances of it being reissued is very slim, but its not impossible. A bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush

*Mythoughts*

My thoughts too about the bird in hand, but I read spousal support takes at least a year and even longer. So I thought why not just add and let the two processes be complete together? That way, boo can join whenever is most convenient.
However, It’s 10th month of waiting and praying now. The whole thing is just getting confusing and worrisome.

It was clearly written on the PPR letter that if your family configuration has changed, you should inform the Visa Office/ indicate before submitting your passport after which you will be unable to do so.
The wedding was 2 weeks after the PPR.

If you travel without marriage, it will be spousal support.
If you marry, but travel without adding spouse and want to add later, won’t that be misrepresentation?

Please I need information on CIPM. I’m looking to take this so I can have a second certificate. I don’t want to do BCS cause I have 0 IT knowledge. Anything from price, material, exams. I checked their website but it confused me the more. Congrats on your PPR

Hi. I can't count the number of people who have attempted and passed the BCS exams even with little or no IT knowledge. Just get yourself a quality tutor and you would be fine.

Dear House,
Please help look into this:
I started my application alone.
ITA was received in September 2019. Age 30, birthday in May.
Medicals and Biometrics done in October 2019.
PPR was finally issued in February 2020.
I decided to add spouse to avoid boredom in strange land and hurdles of sponsoring spouse later on. Marriage took place first week in March and notification sent to CIC.
All the documents for the spouse( Medicals and Police report) were also prepared immediately after marriage as we expected this would be submitted.
We submitted all documents and added spouse to application by 3rd week in March, including police report and medicals.
Till date, CIC has not responded to enquiries or provided update for spouse or requested for her biometrics. All web forms keep getting the same response that it is being processed and that additional information will be asked if required. We requested for GCMS notes and the last update on it stated April 2020.
Please what could be causing the hold up, do we keep raising web forms or just wait and hope for the best?
I will be 32 in 2021. Is age going to be a factor?
Lest I forget, my passport even expired during this process on my birthday. I have gotten a new passport, and added it to my application. Needless to say, my medicals is also over a year.

I am assuming you have not landed yet...you can add spouse at anytime before landing......perhaps this is just the normal COVID delay that many are experiencing.

Did IRCC advise you what docs to submit (e.g. IMM5406 etc)? If they did and you already sent them before (via placeholder or CSE), no harm in re-sending via webform. You could also do your own remedicals and send them the eMedicals form via webform.

Your current age doesn't matter, age is locked at ITA.

Ps: people used to look forward to birthdays...with IRCC....forever young portions needed....

Changes to family composition
Family members can be added to the application at any time during the process, including after the visa is issued, but prior to obtaining permanent resident status. Applicants are instructed to inform IRCC immediately if their family composition has changed (e.g., birth of a child, marriage, divorce)

Please does anyone know a Whatsapp group specifically for PR applicants who are lawyers in Nigeria. Any group dedicated to lawyers in Nigeria that are undertaking the NCA exams in the coming months?

Thank you.

For newspaper publication, all you have to do is to swear an affidavit that you were traditionally married and hence you wish to change your name to his name.
That's all, and since then even my International passport bears his name. Altho this is the first time I would be needing to make use of the passport in his name but with no marriage certificate.

I'm considering the common law route

The person who suggested it also mentioned leaving in different countries.

It's really sad for the delay man. I understand IRCC delays applications for addional dependents for some reason. A friend of mine got PPR I'm November 2019 and was due to deliver her child in January... For some reason, she decided to wait back to deliver here and add the baby before processing the VISA... Till date, no word from IRCC. Not sure if its a deliberate decision but I think you should keep writing them, perhaps it will help.

So I thought too until I received my gcms note. They have a quarterly fixed rate they use. It's extremely different from the fe they even post on their website. For example, you can submit $13000 and the system automatically flags your application for minimum funds requirement met but the analyst handling your file will use the exchange rate of the day he's working on your application to calculate the cad equivalence. People who have ordered gcms note will notice this difference. They have a fixed rate we all don't know about

Hmm, I get it. Thanks.

Guys, the EOR on my IELTS Writing came out successful. Just checked online now and it increased from 6.5 to 7.

If you’re not happy with your IELTS results and you’re super sure that you deserve a highest score in Writing or Speaking, please go ahead and apply for an EOR.

Hi congrats but when did you submit and when did you get response ? Did you use idp or BC

Hello all,

My sister got into her Bsc program via direct entry (Cambridge A-levels). We were wondering if this could be evaluated as two or more certificates. Has anyone been in this situation?

All we saw when researching was that people used foundation diploma and the likes.

We want to know before she embarks on acca.
Thanks

My seniors, please I'll appreciate your input on this.
