I read comments here by my people. But one certainty: outsiders increasingly associating Imo state with prostitution is sickening. People from all over Nigeria jam Owerri on frolicking holidays. Sleep with young students is why they come. Young students are in large quantum, nearing a quarter, or even half of a million, in Owerri, owing to jamming together Fed Unitech, Imo university, Alvan Ikoku, Fed Poly, Fed College of Land Resource Technology in Owerri and nearby Imo state Poly. But no tertiary education institution in the vast lands of Orlu and Okigwe zones. The mistake has been made in the past. Remedial step is: take Imo state university out of Owerri since it has no permanent site yet, and there is little or no university structures built on its site in Owerri. Why would we watch the university built by Okorocha government in his hometown waste, instead of taking most part of Imo state university to Okorocha’s hometown, as recommended by the last government committee? Not doing this is condoning the prostitution tag which outsiders hang on the necks of all of us in Imo state. 4 Likes |

OreMI22: Actually creating beautifully designed and maintained roundabouts are better traffic control and urban beautification strategy than building 4-way traffic junctions. Roundabouts give the city an iconic identity recognizable globally that featureless traffic light junctions. Even American cities are introducing more and more iconic roundabouts in their cities than tasteless 4-way traffic light junctions. Mind you, Americans have enough electricity to run as many traffic light junctions as they wanted. The problem with many Nigerian Governors especially in the southeast is a total lack of vision. Thus, they copy just ANYTHING to be seen as doing "something". In most cases, they don't think of what they are doing, it's practicability or it's relevance. 4 Likes

Cjrane2: I've also noticed the quality of road art in the SE is ugly and stupid. Which is insane because if you go all over the world, Igbo people are always ranking with the top artists, creatives and sculptures. But you go to the place they're from and you'll see nonsense. Compare the amount of history on display in Benin with any Igbo city and you'll even wonder if we started this Igbo culture of a thing this summer. 4 Likes |

Re: Few Pics From Imo State by kikake: 5:14pm On Dec 09, 2020 |
seankafor: In normal countries with educated elites following political leaders, underground pipes for treated water for public supply, gas pipes for domestic supply, sewage system, electricity and telephone cables are first laid underground before the less important roads are built. But building roads first implies that in future, the roads must be broken to lay down the pipes and cables. It’s most foolish to believe that private water boreholes, for example, shall remain as substitute for public water supply system in Imo state. Bad leadership. Mbakwe started with, and completed laying down public water supply pipes in four of the five senatorial districts of old Imo state. He did not do that of Orlu senatorial district because of the still unending bad politicians from the zone. The water supply pipes are still intact in Owerri and Okigwe senatorial zones. 2 Likes |

kikake: With the improvement in technology private boreholes are very good alternatives to public treated water supply just like solar charged inverters are good alternatives to public power supply. We failed in planning our cities from the onset and correction will be too expensive to embark on presently. We should be focused on good drainage and clean environment 1 Like |

[s] Abagworo:[/s] Awka and Onitsha are individually developing a trillion faster and better than Owerri and all of Imo state. Roads in Owerri are far worse than anywhere in Anambra how much more Awka and Onitsha. Roads in Owerri can only be compared to the roads in Aba. Owerri and Aba are so similar in bad roads and filth. This is why most Imo people are living in Onitsha but you dare not find a single Anambran living anywhere near Imo state. Fact 2 Likes 2 Shares |

BastardWike: Owerri developed faster than Port-Harcourt between 2013 and 2019.. Port-Harcourt only picked up last year because Okorocha's successors scared investors away with their actions. Many of those who have returned to Port-Harcourt were already planning establishing zonal office in Owerri before power changed hands and threats of revoking C of O or demolishing already developed areas filled the air. 4 Likes |

Abagworo: I am an owerri guy... Know Owerri in and out from ikenegbu to Aladinma from new owerri to obinze from Irete (bishop ladbrey) to Orji Trust me you don't compare owerri with Awka ... In southern Nigeria Onitsha is the highest built up city and that is the truth ... Very vast and big , Nnewi Industries alone is what imo would dream of in the next 30yrs ... Awka is building millennium cities with a lot of Anambra billionaires bringing back their billions Oga Owerri is only known for prostitution and jegee (419) that is the truth... Building hotels isn't sustainabile ... We guys are building consumerist economy while Anambra is producing We can't grow an economy based on sex .... We must copy Anambra 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Dedetwo: While IMSG uses our commonwealth to rebuild Owerri urban roads approaching once rural villages in Owerri area; abi? The same way Federal Govt of Nigeria uses our commonwealth to build only Abuja but ignore Owerri and other towns in Nigeria, abi? Anyhow, your level of education did not permit you to understand the meaning of, and differences between a state and state capital. Governors that think like you end up in ignominy after their tenure. What is the population of natives of the three LGAs that make up Owerri capital territory? You have no idea that at election time, most of the people who live in Owerri capital territory vote according to what development a governor did in their hometowns. |

AmuDimpka: Take your opinion away from here, it is not needed. I don't know why some of you Igbos like being so petty, clannish and unreasonable. You claim to be from Owerri yet going all out to put Owerri down in such myopic way. Owerri and Enugu still remains the most beautiful cities in the South East, even despite the poor governance. As an Owerri guy you claim to be, what investments do you have or have attracted to Owerri? Those ones you're seeing in Owerri were mostly done by individuals like you yet all you have is mouth action and making ridiculous comparisons. Rubbish!! 4 Likes |
