People from all over Nigeria jam Owerri on frolicking holidays. Sleep with young students is why they come.
Young students are in large quantum, nearing a quarter, or even half of a million, in Owerri, owing to jamming together Fed Unitech, Imo university, Alvan Ikoku, Fed Poly, Fed College of Land Resource Technology in Owerri and nearby Imo state Poly.
But no tertiary education institution in the vast lands of Orlu and Okigwe zones.
The mistake has been made in the past.
Remedial step is: take Imo state university out of Owerri since it has no permanent site yet, and there is little or no university structures built on its site in Owerri.
Why would we watch the university built by Okorocha government in his hometown waste, instead of taking most part of Imo state university to Okorocha’s hometown, as recommended by the last government committee?
Not doing this is condoning the prostitution tag which outsiders hang on the necks of all of us in Imo state.

Although i really didn't like Rochas for his penchant for low quality roads, truth is that he had practical vision for Imo state. Rochas had a technical mind on what was feasible or what was needed to achieve his vision for Imo state. Albeit, his urge to cut corners always made him settle for low quality construction.

However from the looks of it, Hope Uzodinma has ZERO idea about how to develop Imo state. He also does not have a technical mind, thus really embarks on silly unworkable projects just to appear as though he was doing something. I have been looking at his plan to demolish all roundabouts and replace them with 4 way-Junctions and i wonder why he hadn't noticed that the British knew we needed stable, constant electricity to power traffic lights to operate a system of 4 way intersections, than roundabouts which could function efficiently without electricity. Countries without constant electricity cannot operate the 4 way intersections else it would be totally chaotic and impossible to pass those junctions even in places with the most patient drivers. The same man bulldozing all roundabouts in Owerri as an "urban renewal plan" has no plans to improve electricity supply in the city to ensure his traffic lights would work 24 hours of the day and forestall traffic jams that result when traffic lights fail.

He bulldozed the tunnels without going ahead to construct proper flyovers at those spots to add value to what the tunnel was supposed to do. The same bulldozing mindset was why he pulled down a N1.6 billion naira building called Somto Hospital. If that building could not be used as a hospital, it could be used as a vocational training center for youths/artisans, a school for handicap, an indoor computer or phone market, or even a police station with some rooms converted to jails. Why would a poor state in Africa pull down buildings that could be used or donated for other uses?

It is becoming clear that Hope does not have any plans whatsoever to develop Imo state. All he wants to do is to blame the previous Governors for this or that, then continue to demolish this and that just to buttress his point, without adding any value to the state.

I've also noticed the quality of road art in the SE is ugly and stupid. Which is insane because if you go all over the world, Igbo people are always ranking with the top artists, creatives and sculptures. But you go to the place they're from and you'll see nonsense. Compare the amount of history on display in Benin with any Igbo city and you'll even wonder if we started this Igbo culture of a thing this summer.

There are several factors that help to make a city to develop fast aside having a port or huge allocations. P.H is a volatile region many people avoid in investing in, except when it's very crucial. Secondly, the swampy nature of the terrain makes it difficult and more expensive to build or develope structures.

How developed is P.H despite all the humongous allocations, oil activities and port?

How rich is Ebonyi State? What's their federal allocations? How significant is their IGR? Has any of this shortcomings stopped Umahi from developing the state??

In normal countries with educated elites following political leaders, underground pipes for treated water for public supply, gas pipes for domestic supply, sewage system, electricity and telephone cables are first laid underground before the less important roads are built.

But building roads first implies that in future, the roads must be broken to lay down the pipes and cables.

Awka and Onitsha are individually developing a trillion faster and better than Owerri and all of Imo state. Roads in Owerri are far worse than anywhere in Anambra how much more Awka and Onitsha. Owerri-Awka Road is the correct name for this road called Owerri-Orlu Road. The road shall serve Owerri to Awka - short cut to Enugu and Abuja- if the bridge at Ideato is now built.
