jajeri3216: I don't agree, surely there's nothing wrong if one decides to travel, but to say you're living comfortably and still want to travel is a bloody contradiction, better to say I'm managing ,maybe your definition of comfortable is different This is not true One can be comfortable and still want to move to another country Like I said, those of us who were running expres entry back then were definitely NOT STRUGGLING If you are a struggling person You will not be able to even commence that race WES Evaluation Cost of extra certificate to get more points Doing TEF Canada Proof of funds Paying for the PR application upon getting ITA All that costs money that a struggling person will not be able to cough out I hope you know that Folks earning N12m annually Even N24m annually are on the queue for Express entry In a poor country like Nigeria Earning that much money makes you very much comfortable So finance must be a challenge and hence the motivation to emigrate, if not there are so many options. So according to you, "finance must be a challenge " is the motivation that every person who wants to move elsewhere has Dont you know that people move for different reasons? And not every Nigerian is driven by materialism and money money money? How about living in a sane environment? How about raising your kids in a better place ? How about wanting to live in a place where you dont have to constantly be looking over your shoulder? Reasons like that are the main motivating factors for me Not even financial reasons as such Accept your reality to allow you make informed decisions Of course One should not delude himself That's the same advise I'll give you as well... Know yourself and your circumstance And make decisions accordingly I have done mine Do yours as well Peace 7 Likes |

Its interesting to think that some here think it's finances that is the major reason why ANYONE would want to move |

Most people often think you don't have to travel or relocate if you are too comfortable in Nigeria, not true at all. About 5yrs ago, my wealthy uncle visited me in Europe, we drove and visited many German cities, went to Austria, Switzerland, Holland and some other EU countries, after our EU tour, he confessed that no matter how rich or comfortable you are in Nigeria, there is something greatly missing in our society and that is sanity, security and high sense of human freedom and responsibilities. As long as over 80% of the entire population are poor and without future, nobody will ever be comfortable, no matter how rich or comfortable you think you are today, tomorrow is not certain for anybody in Nigeria, anything can happen anytime and you are gone and forgotten. 10 Likes 1 Share |

DexterousOne: It would take folks earning 12 million per annum donkey years to save 150 k, same in abroad ( Deduct expenses). Essentially you're still a struggle middle class like the millions of middle class Nigerians who fled , cause the burden of the inefficiencies of the state must be factored into your state of affairs.. Wanting to go to a sane environment is not materialism ?, well that means all the good stuff in sane societies just appeared out of nowhere, without any conscious thought of wanting something better. Upper class folks have options and in many cases abroad is the least of their worries. |

jajeri3216:Struggle middle class That's a nice one lol I like it Though on a more serious note What range of networth will you put one who is in the "struggle middle class" Let me hear your perspective on this one And what will yoi consider as "Upper Class" Give figures in Naira terms |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 4:09pm On Dec 12, 2020 |
DexterousOne: I really don't know, na you go explain that one. But abroad , 50k and above is middle class. No dey compare yourself with western retirees who have inherited fortunes, invested early or worked hard all their life and now enjoying in the Bahamas. Just roll up like the rest of us 2 Likes |

ositadiima1: I agree. 100%. If you see big man wey dey try japa by fire by force, they are running away from something. We also get some wealthy young people wey dey play for the other team and are trying to escape to country where they can play ball well without the risk of spending 10 years for jail What many people hustling abroad don’t say is that they are homesick and tired and long to return home and settle down. Na fear of the unknown and uncertainty around jobs and finances dey keep them abroad. 4 Likes |

ositadiima1:Oga I agree with you completely. Those who are relocating are just low and middle class. If you fall into the class of elumelu,Jim,obas, otedola, tinubu, dangota etc.You won't be planning to leave naija. All those things you think you don't have in naija you can always buy them if you got cash. You will only think of going abroad for vacations and extra fun.Niaja still remains the best if you have loads and loads of cash.Have you visited neighborhood of billionaire in naija who are not stingy with thr cash. |

I have been scrolling for 5 to 6 pages, and it’s all about immigration (and other off topic back and forth)... on a thread in “investment” section. And it’s not like Nairaland doesn’t have a “travel” section where these arguments can happen. Seems this thread has finally been fully hijacked by hoodlums who are not familiar with the idea of staying on focus. All the investment gurus have finally taken a backseat (many have unfollowed). This is quite ridiculous now. 3 Likes |

This part is mostly true and is the part I always struggle to understand. That homesickness becomes very strong when they start getting close to retirement age. I learnt of a couple of young guys who left Shell Warri back in the 90s as young engineers to that same Canada and US when the craze wasn't even that much. Many of them have started returning, some of them their wife's don divorce them after they don train children finish and almost finish paying mortgage . Now their counterpart that stayed back in that same shell have become managers in their respective departments, some have gone and come back from various cross posting in various Shell global offices, of course some lost their jobs, some don die, some non grow. emmanuelewumi: Would’ve loved to... but not really good at starting the discussions, I just love to read... then contribute sometimes. People who start the relevant discussions have been chased away, apparently. That makes me sad. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 7:39pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
SamReinvented: There's really nothing to discuss. The only place to put your funds right now in Nigeria and elsewhere is the stock market. Both threads are on nairaland, search for it. Personally I'm not interested in nse at all , so i just come here for banter. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by emmanuelewumi(m): 7:47pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
SamReinvented: Maybe whenever you are ready to come up with an investment topic, just enjoy the current flow of discussion. Who told you people were chased out, just have the eye of an investor who can always identify opportunities in the discussion's going on here rather than lamenting and complaining. Have you bought the current bond by Edo State? What are your expectations concerning the offer? What are the factors responsible for the increase in the rate for the last 364 days Treasury Bills. Let the discussion continue 2 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by SamReinvented: 8:10pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
emmanuelewumi: It’s not about having the “eye of an investor”, it’s about “order“ and doing things right. Travel is actually a topic I’m interested in... and if you go through my posts, you’d see me in that section. The point is, there’s place for everything. I can watch for opportunities in the appropriate sections where those discussions are made for and are happening. Derailing threads is not right, even if the discussions are useful. We should learn to do things the right way. I haven’t bought any bonds or bills atm. I just exited the cryptocurrency market, because the market has obviously peaked for now to me. I got in when btc crashed to around $5,000 earlier in the year, so my liver can’t stay in longer than now. Like I posted before, I have also exited the USD market. So all I have right now is liquid cash watching everywhere carefully. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by SamReinvented: 8:22pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
jajeri3216: If there’s nothing to discuss, then we can all just take a break from this thread until there are exciting opportunities... then we resume from where we stopped. That’s pretty ideal. People who want to “banter“ about offtopics can head to the threads where such bants are ontopic. Honestly, it’s counterproductive and very inconsiderate to make people scroll through dozens of banter, just because they are trying to look for something useful in the pile of “trash“. Let’s focus. We can stray off here and there, but we should try to learn when to call it off and get back ontopic. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 8:28pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
SamReinvented: I have pointed you in the direction where you'll get all the investment ideas you need. Tb is dead, the discussions here are not futile. You see hoodlums, i see intelligent young folks expressing themselves. Money shouldn't be the be all and end all, that's where we get it wrong sometimes. 13 Likes |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by SamReinvented: 8:36pm On Dec 13, 2020 |
jajeri3216: It’s quite ironic that you’re “pointing me” to threads, but you can’t “point” derailers to the appropriate threads for their discussions. I see you don’t get the point about order and following rules... Not that surprising though, as that’s sadly the bane of Nigeria’s existence. So your mindset fits. Anyway... In order not to fall into the same hole that I’m cautioning people about, I’m ending my explanation here. If you still don’t get it, I can’t help further. Farewell. 1 Like |
