It’s quite ironic that you’re “pointing me” to threads, but you can’t “point” derailers to the appropriate threads for their discussions. I see you don’t get the point about order and following rules... Not that surprising though, as that’s sadly the bane of Nigeria’s existence. So your mindset fits.

Anyway... In order not to fall into the same hole that I’m cautioning people about, I’m ending my explanation here. If you don’t get it, I can’t help further. Farewell.

Oga, you have been involved in such discussions that derail the thread. Please stop the holier than thou attitude.

If there’s nothing to discuss, then we can all just take a break from this thread until there are exciting opportunities... then we resume from where we stopped. That’s pretty ideal. People who want to “banter“ about offtopics can head to the threads where such bants are ontopic.

Honestly, it’s counterproductive and very inconsiderate to make people scroll through dozens of banter, just because they are trying to look for something useful in the pile of “trash“. Let’s focus. We can stray off here and there, but we should try to learn when to call it off and get back ontopic.

You can quitely exit the thread or you start another one. It is live and let others live.

If majority is going with the flow let them be.

People have said alot about migration.

The worry is that Nigeria is loosing her bright heads in the upper middle class to developed nations. Except we find a way of replacing them and leveraging on the experience of those who migrated, we may not move forward.

The likes of Dangote, Ovia e.t.c we keep referencing here make less than 0.01% of our population. You'd be surprised the amount of time they spend outside the country. How many British billionaires have you seen gallivanting in Nigeria? The effect of the rich on a nation is based on their effect on the middle class or how the nation leverages their wealth.

Every country is carried by their middle class. It's that group that drive the economy, pay taxes and determine the purchasing power. The difference between Nigeria and the US is not based on the difference between what Dangote and Bill gates can afford. It's based on the difference between their middle class. Recently, Dangote opened an office in New York with plan to manage part of his wealth from there. Do you know what impact that has on Nigeria? Most of our rich buy houses and shop in London and contribute to their economy. Later we wonder why Nigeria is in this mess.

Someone mentioned that those with upto 200mil passive income are not looking to migrate. I'd say that thinking is because they're not looking at relativity. I have seen people swear that if the can get a job that'd pay 150k, then all their problems are gone. Meanwhile those earning 250k will tell you they can barely run their family with it. I'd say look for those earning 200mil and ask them their thoughts on migration is if they could still maintain their income source.

The Nigerians paying 400,000 USD for passports and buying houses in London e.t.c are not the regular middle class. Give that a thought

Nigerians who grew up in Nigeria would always have this nostalgic feeling of home... But that does not mean the country is not spiralling down

The first coupon for the Sukuku bond (11.2% FGN JUN 2027) drops in 2 days, if I am right.

Surprisingly, till date I never got any acknowledgement from FG that my bid was successful, though I later discovered that it was listed in my CSCS account. Cheers!

This guy is actually right. Only thing is Nigeria is not the second or third wealthiest but the wealthiest country in Africa with a GDP of over USD400bn. The sixth largest producer of oil in the world cannot be a poor country. Nigeria is not a poor country!

Its citizens may be poor but as a country, Nigeria is not poor.

And he stated clearly what the issues are. Corruption, bad leadership and inequality. I will add the biggest issue which is high unsustainable population growth.

What Japan may have as an advantage in human capital, Nigeria has more than enough in natural resources.

Exactly..i was wondering why they say the country is poor...the citizens are poor, but the country is rich but mismanaged. Dubai was once poor, until resources were properly managed.

In terms of raw GDP Nigeria is first in Africa and number 30 in the world.

In terms GDP per capita at PPP, Nigeria is 17th in Africa and number 135 (IMF) in the world.

From wikipedia:
"Gross domestic product (GDP) is a monetary measure of the market value of all the final goods and services produced in a specific time period. GDP (nominal) per capita does not, however, reflect differences in the cost of living and the inflation rates of the countries; therefore, using a basis of GDP per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) is arguably more useful when comparing living standards between nations, while nominal GDP is more useful comparing national economies on the international market. "

Corruption aside, given our population, Nigeria is not doing that well. A family of 4 that earns 350k a month is far better than a family of 15 that earns 1 mil per month.
with proper management of our resources, nigeria will move up the list.

Read my comment again. Very carefully. Never in that comment did I mention that Nigeria is a rich country because of its untapped natural resources. I talked about our GDP and the fact that we are the sixth producers of oil. I haven’t even mentioned how much Nigeria makes from our LNG exports. As a country, Nigeria is not poor.

I only compared Japan’s human capital to our natural resources as someone mentioned Japan’s human capital advantage somewhere in one of those comments.

Btw, your analogy was not a good one. Nigeria can be compared to a rich man with 600 children that owns a lot of undeveloped land in prime locations. He hasn’t sold most of the land or developed them yet but he would make a lot more money when he develops all his land or sells them. The only problem is that he has too many illiterate and criminal children. When he dies, the wealth will not go round and will be kept and squandered by a few of his older criminal children while the younger ones languish in poverty.

The country makes and has lots of money. But the people are poor. The key issues are unsustainable population growth, bad leadership, corruption and inequality.

Have a great day!

Re the bolded below. The sudden spike could be because lots of cash that were chasing TBills/Bonds have gone into other asset classes (real estate, fx, equities, cryptos etc etc) following the collapse in TBill/bond yields and subsequent Naira devaluation. I suspect the spike may also be the beginning TBill/bond rates going up again in the coming months and years as government borrowing begins to spike materially. One would imagine that yields would have to be attractive enough to perhaps enable a rotation back to TBills from other asset classes... Anyway time would tell.

Maybe whenever you are ready to come up with an investment topic, just enjoy the current flow of discussion.

Who told you people were chased out, just have the eye of an investor who can always identify opportunities in the discussion's going on here rather than lamenting and complaining.

Have you bought the current bond by Edo State? What are your expectations concerning the offer? What are the factors responsible for the increase in the rate for the last 364 days Treasury Bills.

Let the discussion continue

The guy used Ahib to announce himself on the thread, it is the same way young artist either do colabo with established artist or they start by releasing a song that disses an established artist so that people start asking "who is he"

With the level of intelligence he has displayed so far, I think he is supposed to be bigger than that approach and didn't need to use the cussing words on Ahib to gain relevance.

People here appreciate diverse intelligent discussions.

I have not checked my Investment One VGIF account for a long time now.

So, this morning, I randomly checked, only to see that my interest is a whopping 127 million naira.

Hahaha. Wetin dey happen? My capital is not even up to 5% of that interest I am seeing there.

Can any of the agents tell me what's happening or I should start rejoicing that I have turned a multi-millionaire? grin grin grin

You now have the stage, good thing you are using it well now by also contributing to the thread.
As per bolded, it is not true. I remember the genesis of your rancor with Ahib. Ahib made a suggestion about something and then added a simple joke that he could set up a consultancy based on what he had suggested. Very honest joke if you ask me, only for you to come from nowhere to tell him that with what English will he write the report or something like that.
Prior to that time, all your comments on Nairaland were on BBN, so it did seem that the thread was above your pay grade. But like I said before, you now have the stage, good thing you are using it well now by also contributing to the thread.
