The corner had not been taken before the incident. So it was a case of assault. That it wasn't a straight red is more surprising. But I guess the ref wasn't too sure it was deliberate.
Well, I don't think it was a red card sha. It wasn't intentionally, and not that it was a violent conduct, injury threatening foul or he was a last man foul.
So the ref was spot on for the yellow.

Thanks for your answer..

Quick question...

Why was the penalty not awarded against arsenal wen elneny was given a yellow card?

I'm trying to see the rationale behind it.

Fkhalifa, Roland17, Spy360, iamoyindamola, mostob, Afrodoc2, Akhinbahm

I think the responses have done justice to the question.

Moller,Willock,Pepe,Cirjan should be on bench.

All those agbayas should be sent to Shiloh or Baba Adeboye's camp for deliverance. Xhaka, especially should go for baptism too while Bellerin should go for those candle light prayers.

24 hours after the incident, Xhaka has not come out to tender an apology to the fans! I mean, Gabriel and Tierney have made public statements apologizing for yesterday’s incident and performance but not Xhaka!

Remember, Pepe tendered an apology after his incident. Arteta called out Pepe during the post match in a scathing manner after his incident but needed to be reminded before he made a strong comment about Xhaka because the reporter compared it to Pepe’s.

Throughout this bad run of losses, our supposed captain Auba has not had one post match conference to address the fans!!! Someone please correct me if I am wrong..The freaking captain of this team has not for once come out to speak to the fans after this shambolic run!! Rather than take the heat after shameful performances we are sending Willock and others.. Where is the captain? Is it only when he is scoring that we would see videos? How about during moments like this?

Arteta has absolutely no control of that dressing room and it is frustrating the hell out of me. I know this team is horrible with a lot of stupid egos but Arteta is mis-managing this team. These are some of the symptoms..

from Tierney post match interview, I belive that arteta has not lost the dressing room, i think that the only people that are unhappy with the coach are the same people that were unhappy with emery and wenger.

if arsenal need to move forward i think its best to stick with arteta and bin all those old cargoes. because if we sack arteta then we are going round circles because the next manager will still have to face these old cargoes with their over inflated ego in the squad and by this time next year we all will be clamoring for the head of the next manager.

i think its time for we the fans to back arteta no matter what, if arteta is gone then the old cargoes has won again, they did it with wenger, they did it with emery now they have started that rubbish with arteta, and I'm sure those useless players will still do the same shít with the new manager.

las las na we the fans go suffer am because those players will continue that rubbish and still get paid while we languish in the league with the new manager.

Abeg stop mentioning wengay, he did whatever happened to him by himself. He disrespected the fans Emery or Arteta never did.

I too don't think it was deliberate, but the law doesn't know that, because two hands on your opponent's face is violent conduct. The punishment for violent conduct is a straight red.

Arteta has absolutely no control of that dressing room and it is frustrating the hell out of me. I know this team is horrible with a lot of stupid egos but Arteta is mis-managing this team. These are some of the symptoms..
Remember last season also wen he was substituted and crowd booed him. He never apologized till he was under pressure to do so. Even his "apology" smack of him claiming right than being remorseful. Yet a season later, he hasn't apologized even tho he's let the club down and he was in the wrong. Pepe own no even reach one day, yet he apologized.

Another thing I noticed is this... When pepe got his red card for he foolish violent conduct, Arteta was scathing of his behavior and attacked him(which was right). Exact same thing happened to xhaka and he was giving excuses for xhaka. Wen I read his excuse for xhaka, that's wen I really lost it with Arteta.

My conclusion is that Arteta doesn't know how to control the big boys in the dressing room. I thought he was the one that can instill discipline and accountability in the squad but I've come to realize that I was wrong that he can't. No wonder xhaka, Willian and all are always seeing shirts no matter how poorly they play.

Also, Good points you raised about Auba our captain not addressing the fans through any social media. This just shows that most of these players never really have an atom of the club at heart. Theirs is just business.

In as much as I'm still torn between arsenal sacking Arteta or not, I just have to say Arteta isn't doing himself any world of good.

He has the board and Edu fully behind him. This means that any decision he takes or makes it's 90% certain that the board will back him as long as it's for the good of the club. But Arteta has shown that he's afraid of some certain players and he'll need to please some certain players else he might not succeed. It's as if he's fearing some players and that's not the characteristics of a good coach.

Another thing is that we don't have any legend in this present team, so I don't know the reason for his fears. It's not as if we've a kinda totti or Gerrard kinda stature in the team that's forming egos. Is it Williian or xhaka or who especially? All these our players egos can easily be tamed and no issues will be raised.
Na him really cause am himself.

As for Wenger... The players weren't unhappy with him. Wenger was getting outdated in tactics, so it has nothing to do with him.

If Arteta doesn't want to be sacked, he needs to bin the old cargoes himself and by himself. If he cannot do that, then certainly he's not a good coach for a big club like ours(or any other club sef).

I understand that the pressure to perform can make a manager 'beg' at his players instead of going hard on them. But if he can take the risk and go for who wants to play for him rather than who can play he will escape these trying times, besides he is already drowned and won't drown further. That's what top managers do, they bench the under performing big boys until their brains reset. Arteta indeed started in that manner but it seems pressure has gotten the best of him.

We really need an experienced head around the club to guide him, I don't think Edu is helping him at all, we need someone as Football Director who has guts.

This has been my point of what I'm hoping he does but he's not doing it. That's why I told kodded that if he can't bench "big" and underperforming players, then he has no business being in a top club.

He should also thank God that fans are not on the stadium all these times of bad results, cos it would have been very very worse for him

This is what I said few weeks ago,but I was reminded he won the Fa cup and community plate and that any fan asking for his head is irrational.
Whereas Dortmund sacked their coach whose side are few point off top position.
I question Arsenal's mentality, we are too patient and embraced mediocrity so much.

We tend to love coach and certain players too much and we suffer for it a lot.

If I were to assume Arsenal's coaching job today, I'm benching Auba for 2 straight games and bringing him on at 70th minute in the 3rd. But guess what Fans will call for my head and sack if i do such.

Yeah, you have a point.

I don't think any top club in EPL would have allowed Arteta this leeway he had till now.

Another reason I feel fans would have either made him step up(that's dropping underperforming players) or see the sack is that, the boos by the fans would have reset his brain. If it continues, fans might start to leave before end of match, and if such bad run continues, then fans might refuse to turn up to stadium. This is where I feel the board will be pressured to step in cos they live for profit, thus if Arteta doesn't improve, he'll get the sack.

I just think Arteta prolonged stay is due to absence of fans, else he'll be in hotter seat than he is presently

Southampton won't be easy but it's a good game to redeem himself before we face the likes of Chelsea and co. I'll like to see more of the Europa guys especially Nelson and Balogun.
