Good afternoon house, please I really your advice on a very crucial matter. Hubby and I have only the Nikkah marriage certificate, and our proposed court wedding has been slated for late January next year. The issue now is that, there’s a high probability of us getting an ITA in the next draw which is before the court wedding. Should we use married or common law partner in our profile, as the court marriage certificate is not yet available. Please all suggestions will be highly welcome and appreciated.
I used my Nikkah certificate (I am post AOR) and I think I have read about people using it here in previous parts.

There are some documents expected from common law partners, do u have dem? I.e. living together, paying bills together, have an account together etc. U can't also use married because legally U are not. If Ur court wedding is slated for late January den I will suggest U wait till then before accepting ITA. I am assuming U are really interested in this cos Ur express entry profile already says u are married and u are claiming points from Ur spouse. Cos if not, the profile u created and which U will probably get ITA from was on false premise. So U may have to decline ITA and wait for the next one. This is my personal opinion let others weigh in.

They're not common law partners, they're married. Infact, legally, not just court weddings are legal in Nigeria.

This is a general notification. Kindly refrain from giving personal opinions that you are unsure of. Rather refer them to IRCC website, they have giving all their requirements. People make life changing decisions based on the information they get here. Thanks

Mine went through effortlessly earlier this month.
Okay thank you sir, I’d try it then.

My passport expires June this year and it's very likely I get ITA January next year. Should I renew my passport early January or should I wait till it expires in June?

Thanks in anticipation of your wise counsels

A renewal won’t hurt asides the fact that literally every embassy requires at least 6 months validity in your passport

Would advise you to renew as soon as possible. If you get the new one before ITA, great. If you only get it after ITA, I don't think that's an issue either, submit your eAPR with the new passport details.

If you go ahead to submit your eAPR with your June expiry passport, it's very very likely you'll get an ADR for a passport renewal.

Hi my Co-Canadians, greeting. I need some guidance urgently. How do I pay application fees for PR? Which is about CAD1500. I hear that the CBN has now restricted online payments to 100 doll per day. Any ideas will be really appreciated.

Perhaps best to contact OINP.

I don't think it's a major issue, I believe your new and old profile will reflect on MyCIC provided you are using the same gc key details.

See this person's experience (although theirs was ineligible profile not expired profile):

This person was able to link a newly opened profile to an old one when they forgot their password:

The other people who have stated their personal experiences nko? What other advise do you require after personal experience first hand information.
It won’t hurt to read the MA or MCA so you can be enlightened on the type of marriages in Nigeria or even a google search.

I’m accustom to the Marriage Act as I’m a lawyer myself but it seems IRCC main proof of marriage is the court certificate, so I’m trying to dots my I’s and cross my t’s right. Thanks for your contribution, i really appreciate.

Even better you’re a lawyer, ircc recognises the customs unique to every country as they’ll say “local knowledge”. Nikkah is a very valid as a form of marriage in Nigeria, so I hope the experiences of others can douse your fears

Why don’t you rather go to the court that has jurisdiction over marriages for a declaration? This is just my opinion though. If you’re comfortable by FHC it’s okay

You mentioned on the other thread that you have 3 kids and your marriage is 6 years.. so you'll now submit a declaration that was obtained this year? or a court certificate that will be obtained in January ?
How will you now add your kids? or they'll be added as though born before marriage ? undecided undecided

I don't know shaa but having 3 kids already solidifies the Nikkah certificate, if at all there's any doubt..

This is my opinion shaa, ultimate decision on your application lies with you. All the best.

Hello, merry Christmas everyone.
I graduated recently from the university and currently undergoing NYSC program. I intend moving to Canada and I would appreciate if I can be properly advised.

NB: I am into data science and software engineering and I'd be acquiring relevant certifications this coming year.

Thanks in anticipation.

Hello everyone, please I have 2 questions and would really love assistance.

1. Does points for years of experience increase with number of years? E.g is 3years different for 5yrs.....and so on

2. Is it advisable to get reference letter early, instead of waiting for ITA. Would they flag it? If I'm entering the pool early next year, can I get the letter this year? Thanks

Nikkah is a valid form of marriage both in Nigeria and Canada as long as you have a duly signed marriage certificate. My cousin (a pr holder in Canada), just got married through Nikkah ceremony. Just show adequate proof of your marriage along with your license and you are good to go
