There was a time a site called omambaladotcom was floated, most Anambra people left nairaland to that site, this same cursed mktinsight left nairaland and came to that site and continued his witchcraft. Immediately we returned to nairaland, thinking that the evil spirit called mktinsight will remain there, he found his way back to nairaland when this thread was created. Mktinsight you haven't answered my question,
I'm still waiting for your reply on this

WireWire22:
Bro please let me ask you
How was Kano, Lagos, Enugu, Owerri, PH when there airport was built, how beautiful was those cities, what's there economic activities when there airport was built, please tell me
Lagos airport handles less than 100,000 passengers annual around 19's when the airport was built, uptll now Owerri still don't have good roads compared to Anambra state yunno that each towns and villages has more than 3,5 roads around 2000's. Not to talk 2019 or of this 2020

Now Anambra has many commercial and economic activities, don't deserve an international airport.

Shame, but thanks God it's nearing completion and will be completed and comission very soon

Lets get one thing straight. An airport is not a monument it is a BUSINESS. Look at it in BUSINESS terms not SENTIMENT, not patriotism, not love for Anambra. BUSINESS. Each International passenger is worth 20 times more than the average domestic passenger so an international airport makes a lot more sense than a domestic one.

Here is why. MOST of airport revenie derives from something called PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGE (PSC). FAAN charges $50 per international ticket (N 23,000) and N1000 per domestic ticket. So lets do the math:

Lagos MMIA: 3m (PSC -> 69 billion Revenue)
Abuja International: 800,000 (PSC => 18.4 billion revenue)
Kano International: 140,000 (PSC -> 3.2 billion revenue)
Port Harcourt International: 100,000 (PSC -> 2.3 billion revenue)
Owerri Domestic: 500,000 (PSC -> 500 million revenue)
Enugu Domestic 300,000 (PSC -> 300 million revenue)
Enugu International: 40,000 (PSC -> 920 million revenue)

Note I have not evven mentioned things that international traffic generates like lots more shopping expenditure.

So as you can see it helps to have an airport that caters to LOTS of international traffic. Why? Because it sustains the costs you invest in an airport.

Delta state is finding this out. It invested over 50 billion to build a small airport in Asaba which generates less than 300 million naira per year. Which means that after paying salaries, expenses (electricity, maintenance, etc), how much is left to pay the 50 billion cost of the airport? It is already a money loser and is why delta state run by the practical Okowa quickly concessioned out the airport for 30 years in exchange for N100 million per year (3 billion over 30 years).

Anambra did not conduct a proper feasibility analysis of building an airport. It didnt ask the questions of whether it will make money or will be a drain on the budget every year (something which in states like Enugu and Imo is bourne by the federal government).

Now in my view the money for that airport should have been channeled into city infrastructure to attract companies to base in Anambra. I advocated for the International Conference Center because it is a marketing tool to draw companies but then where will they locate? Anambra has done very little to build industrial layouts nor plan its cities business centers properly.

Lagos has major high streets like Broad Street, Awolowo Road, Adeola Odeku, Ozumba Mbadiwe, Ikorodu Road. Onitsha just look at Iweka Road, Awka Road, Awka with its Zik Avenue that has been taken over by primitive markets and traders. Which major business will want to locate on any of those primitive streets?

The Industrial layout in Awka that was reserved for factories is already being sold to estate developers. The Harbour Industrial Layout in Onitsha is already choked up and nothing else has been built to provide space for growth.

Mktinsight the best thing for you is to die because no matter how much you cry on this thread Anambra international airport is almost ready lol

Does those states with airports have better city infrastructures than Anambra? No. With the exception of Lagos, do they have more industries than Anambra? No. With the exception of Lagos do they have more economic/commercial presence? No.

Infact without airport, Anambra became the 5 largest economy in Nigeria.

Without airport nor seaport, Anambra became the biggest economy in the SE region and too 5 Nigeria.

Anambra has overall best road networks in the region. Now tell us if you are not a sadistic witch, did those states you mentioned ever got to the level of Anambra, on infrastructure, education, industrial and commercial concerns before building airports? No

Mktinsight, it is best for you to drink poison and die, because it is very obvious this airport project in Anambra has devastated your miserable life. There's nothing you can do about.

Now you are comparing Lagos that had all the federal presence from time immemorial with Anambra that has always done stuff for itself. Now compare the same Lagos with Joborg, Accra, Windhoek, Tunis, and other African cities that were contemporaries with Lagos, then you will realise how backward Lagos is.

Anambra is a great state. Drown yourself if you can't bear it anymore, we don't give a fvck.

40% of passengers are not Anambra indigenes. Nor does Anambra boast second highest commercial activities outside Lagos. Banking data tells you how much money moves within the state and if is 5 or 6 not number 2.

That is not to say Anambra cannot become an economic powerhouse. But put things in place to attract big business not 10x10 shops all over the place.

Trash from a cursed frustrated old man. Anambra is the 4th largest economy in Nigeria.

Anambra alone controls over 40% of air travellers in SE region.

Anambra indigenes have most private jets in Nigeria

Anambra indigene owns the most successful airline company in Nigeria.

Anambra has most industries in the SE region.

Anambra is the economic hub of eastern Nigeria.

Anambra achieved all these without airport nor seaport. Now we all understand why a demonic witch like you is so scared of Anambra international airport, because we can only imagine where they state is headed to.

Anambra has surpassed Lagos in commerce

Anambra has the largest commercial activities in the whole of Nigeria and west africa, remove centering bro

If not the kind of sentiment and segregation in Nigeria Anambra state will be robbing shoulder with Lagos state now, that's why they don't want to zone president to SE, because things will change, they are afraid that Anambra might outgrown Lagos because Anambra state has all the chances to do so

I don't know how to reach out to Anambra State government, so i'll just post this information here so that those with access to them can plead with them.

We URGENTLY need roundabouts at certain typically traffic-jam prone junctions in the state. We all know that Nigerians are the worst when it comes to being patient and obeying traffic rules. Therefore, having a 4-way junction on any major road without a roundabout is fundamentally a flawed design which will inevitably cause complicated & locked traffic jams. The idea of posting 1 or 2 traffic police or road marshals does not address this in anyway as they are easily totally overwhelmed.

Important road junctions as Nnobi Junction and Ekwulobia junction amongst so many others should have WIDE roundabouts to facilitate smooth movement of traffic across such junctions. These roundabout apart from helping the traffic police to manage the traffic, also serve as cultural beautification monuments around the state. In other countries such as the USA, some 4-way traffic junctions have been modified into roundabouts with nice monuments, water fountains and flowers. I am pleading with the authorities to consider building roundabouts around those notorious junctions in the state to help ease the flow of traffic across those important junctions and around the state. It shouldn't cost much to build these roundabouts, but they will save so much man-hours and fuel cost spent in traffic commuting around the state.

Happy New Year to my great colleagues in this forum! I really appreciate how you all contributed ideas to keep this forum vibrant in 2020.
2021 shall be a wonderful year of breakthrough for all of you in Jesus name! Amen.

Kano and Lagoswere the largest cities in Africa at the time, kano had groundnut pyramids, textile factories etc. Kano was an industrial hub meanwhile Lagos was the most populous city and it was the capital at the times then Abuja became the capital. I’m not saying Anambra doesn’t need an airport but you can’t compare Lagos, kano and Abuja ti Anambra they are all either more populous or more important not because of location or ethnicity but because once again of population or status.

Abuja was nothing in 1996 when I visited. It had one major road and that was all. But FGN pumped money into infrastructure and now it is the best planned city in Nigeria with wide roads, pavements and tarred residential districtrs.

Awka was practically a collection of villages when it became the state capital. Zik Avenue was known as "ezi oyibo" when it was built by the colonialist and has largely remained almost exactly the same despite over 20 years of state hood. The state government has done little for town planning. The business district on Zik Avenue is a dump with a market that anyone with sense would have relocated to Agu Awka long ago. There is poor connecting infrastructure between the old town, the government zone and the university. Successive governors spend their budgets bizarrely building roads to villages than wide roads in cities. Awka has only one major dual lane street in a city of 500,000.

Then you look at Onitsha the city of markets. You would think that by now we would have progressed to beautifying those billion naira markets and expanding the roads leading to them. That the great Iweka street would be restored to its former glory. But no, we continue pandering to the lowest denominator. Narrow roads, shops on top of gutter, filth inside gutters, Keke causing a nuisance.

2021.Wake up Ndi Anambra. Other countries in Africa are building their cities. Fixing transport systems, widening roads, transforming business zones. They are not playing village politics.

Happy New Year to all.

Yet another rash from a cursed frustrated old man. Anambra is the 4th largest economy in Nigeria.

Onitsha is the economic hearr of the southeast region with excellent infrastructures. Awka has beautiful dual carriageways from EBS Boulevard to Esther Obiakor to Secretariate Road to Nibo road to Zik Avenue to the 6- lanes GRA to, etc. Awka Millennium City is littered with dual carriageways, the type never seen before in the SE region. Aside Lagos which was the former capital of Nigeria, kane is a dumpsite of 5million almajiris. The only reason Kano is mentioned in Nigeria is because of federal character that even channel undue advantage to the state with 44 local governments.

What's the human capital status of Kano?

What's the educational status of Kano?

What does kano offer Nigeria in terms of natural or human resources?

Anambra is the biggest economy in Nigeria aside Lagos, Abuja and Rivers state. You clowns should stop spewing what you don't know.

Don't even mention Abuja because upto now Anambra has more population, etc than Abuja, it's only in infrastructural development that Abuja surpassed Anambra

As of 19's they all have less than 4 - 5million populations, but Anambra of now has has more 11, million population
As of then despite being the largest city and capital of Nigeria and for Kano, they don't control the control the economic activities Anambra of now is controlling, hope you know
Now Anambra state has surpassed many states in commerce even Lagos, that's why Anambra has the largest commercial activities in Nigeria and west africa.
How about other states like Enugu, Owerri, pH etc yunno they don't has anything to show as of then.

The reason I asked This question is because someone is saying that Anambra don't have anything to show to build an airport which the person knows that Anambra of now is better than Lagos and Kano of 19's, even Anambra has surpassed Kano in many angles

The comparison is about investing in infrastructure. Anambra State has spent more than 80% of its works budget on inter-state roads and less than 20% on urban roads. That is why Awka looks exactly the way it does. Lots of buildings with no roads. Narrow poorly constructured roads everywhere.

I hope the next governor of the state will take the cities seriously and develop them for the 21st century. What do I mean?

AWKA

1) Decongest Zik Avenue. Relocate Eke-Awka out of its present location. Remove the nonsense police blockage on upper road before Governor's lodge. Enforce the no-parking law on Zik Avenue.

2) Build a proper Main Business district Starting from St Paul University to ICC with pavements, covered gutters, traffic lights, and tarred cross roads for off-street parking.

3) Build a proper Government district centered around the Secretariat/Ekwueme Square area and relocate all offices (Lands, ASUDEB, Works, Tax) there.

4) Relocate and rebuild Customary Court and Magistrate Court near the High Court.

5) Relocate Governor's Lodge away from Amawbia to the building near Secretariat

6) Build Flyover at Regina Caeli - Old INEC Road

7) Build Flyover between Agu-Awka to Esther Obiakor at Juhel junction

cool Build clean paved Large Bus Terminal with amenities and force all inter-state buses to pick up/drop passengers there (Eastern Mass, TRACAS, Good is God, etc) there.

9) Phase out Keke and mini-shuttles by 2022. Organize franchised minimum 20 seater commuter buses with scheduled routes and stops that run along major city roads.

10) Expand the Awka Stadium land into a Sports, Recreational & Parks Center with Tennis Courts, Basketball Courts, Volleyball Sandpit, Childrens playpen, Changing rooms, and a walking trail.

11) Tar all streets in the ancient town of Awka

Hahahaha

You are no more crying about the international airport. You have been beaten to stupor in that topic, now you have moved to another.

Aside Abuja, Awka is the most beautiful and fastest developing city in Nigeria with beautiful houses, beautiful wide roads, beautiful infrastructures, beautiful planning and beautiful people.

Cry and die if you feel otherwise but there's nothing you can do about the good developments on ground.

mktinsight:

The comparison is about investing in infrastructure. Anambra State has spent more than 80% of its works budget on inter-state roads and less than 20% on urban roads. That is why Awka looks exactly the way it does. Lots of buildings with no roads. Narrow poorly constructured roads everywhere. hope the next governor of the state will take the cities seriously and develop them for the 21st century. What do I mean?AWKA 1) Decongest Zik Avenue. Relocate Eke-Awka out of its present location. Remove the nonsense police blockage on upper road before Governor's lodge. Enforce the no-parking law on Zik Avenue.2) Build a proper Main Business district Starting from St Paul University to ICC with pavements, covered gutters, traffic lights, and tarred cross roads for off-street parking. 3) Build a proper Government district centered around the Secretariat/Ekwueme Square area and relocate all offices (Lands, ASUDEB, Works, Tax) there. 4) Relocate and rebuild Customary Court and Magistrate Court near the High Court. ) Relocate Governor's Lodge away from Amawbia to the building near Secretariat6) Build Flyover at Regina Caeli - Old INEC Road7) Build Flyover between Agu-Awka to Esther Obiakor at Juhel junction

Rocksvibes234:
Lolz brother, don't compare Awka with Abuja that's Federal capital and state capital
Make Awka the federal capital and see how stunning it will look like in less than 2years time.

Awka is even more than now than in 2012etc

That one is just dumb.

Rocksvibes234:

4:43 Its actually called Akpaka GRA its an estate. Its unfortunate that their roads are dusty, sandy, bumpy. But they have a good road network. Their roads are wide unlike many estates in Lagos where you have tiny roads where the planners do not give large enough roads, considering there should be pedestrain walkways before the drainage proper. The roads are wide enough if they would be constructed by the Governor. So some of the Landlords did not want to appear on camera. They said the ex-Governor Peter Obi came here and they consulted him about constructing the road for them and he showed willingness to do it. At a time he even gave conditions. He gave them a bill that each landlord will pay 750,000 naira for C of O and support for government to come and build the roads. But unfortunately after spending 8 years in power as a governor of Anambra he didnt build the roads for them. Then towards the end of his tenure, the time he was campaigning for the current governor they came here together, they campaigned and promised to build the road. They even brought a building contractor. The contractor showed the governor has given a check of 100 million naira as an advance to start work. But unfortunately after the elections the contractor came back and said that the check bounced. Politicians and magic. He said they did not know what to do because they had committed their own money. They brought sand, moved their equipment and other stuff. Eventually the contractor had to leave the estate and they are stuck with their dusty roads
