Honestly, if Nigeria continues with the current rearmarment pace, we could be getting a air superiority jet or a more capable jet than the JF-17 in about 15 year's time. Well, that's if they haven't decided to go all in for the JF-17.

But what we need for the type of security challenges we have are more rotary wing aircrafts. The delivery of the remaining MI-35s should be far more important than those of the JF-17. More MI-171s. The tucanos are also more important than the JF-17.
The alpha jets, F-7NI, Tucanos, and the armed drones in service can perform air interdiction operations, while the helicopters supported by the Tucanos can perform CAS operations. Air superiority capabilities should be a long term goal. Defense spending in the next five years should focus more on the army and to a lesser degree the navy. Purchase of MRAPs, APCs, IFVs Tanks and artilleries should be the major priority.
DICON should look into the local manufacturing of artilleries and mortars, it shouldn't be that difficult, they should challenge themselves beyond production of small arms. In fact Nigeria should be signing defense agreements that will facilitate transfer of technologies in this regard,we can't do this alone in a short period of time. The aim for the army is to do away with soft skin vehicles for high risk operations and patrols in high risk areas in the next four years. After that, they can then focus on increased firepower. The negative effects of insecurity in the economy is enormous and any amount spent to ensure peace and stability will be recouped in few years time.

To be honest it's mind-numbing! Economic loss to an entire region, the size of a lot of countries in Europe, if there was peace in the NE today, this countries economy would grow in double digits, with tens of millions raise out of poverty. It's not rocket science insecurity have been a major hindrance to productivity.

It's not rocket science insecurity have been a major hindrance to productivity.

It has affected all parts of Nigeria, not only the NE, the numerous raw materials and agricultural produce we get from that part of the country are no longer available in sufficient quantities. Take for example the livestock sector, majority of the dry maize used in the production of livestock feeds used to be from that region. The insurgency led to several farmers abandoning their farms for IDP camps or for other Jobs and the country had to start importing from other neighboring countries which led to more than 100% increase in the price of livestock feeds around 2010/2011(increased capital input into production). Now with the recent banditry and kidnapping crisis in the Northwest that has led to further scarcity of maize and soybeans, the price of livestock feed has almost tripped to #4500 from the #1800 it used to be about a decade ago. Now a poultry farmer that used to earn around 90k on about 400k recurrent capital every month now earns around 30k on 900k recurrent capital every month with intense difficulty.
Now look at the numbers of poultry farmers we have in this country and how it has affected them individually and the sector as a whole. This is just one sector of a sector of the economy! Coupled with climate change, the fact that several parts of the country received incredibly low amount of rainfall last year. Any farmer depending on rain for production this year is playing with his investment. The inevitable food crisis we are using to joke in this country will shock everyone.

When did I say this on this thread? don't bring up things from the other thread when i've explicitly said i'm on that thread just for fun.

however that said, Egypt does not have the capacity to invade SA....not even remotely close!

Also when do I lose control when the JF17 is mentioned? I've praised the fact that NAF has acquired the JF17 and that it is the perfect fit for the current needs of the NAF.....I did however say NAF needs at least 12 units of JF17

We need a company like this in Nigeria to produce good riffles like these !

This wasn't even a company, It was more of a taskforce formed to build local capacity. It has shown we have the potential, all we lack(ed) is the political will, budget and good leadership.

In a historic fete, Kenyan troops will, for the first time, be armed with weapons and weapon systems manufactured locally following the success of a secretive manufacturing and innovation enterprise, the Saturday Nation can reveal.

The arsenal modified and manufactured in Kenya is part of the weaponry that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) 10th Battle Group (10BG), which started moving into Somalia early this month, is using.

The 10th KDF Battle Group will see KDF prepare for the anticipated withdrawal of troops under the Somali Transition Plan aimed at the gradual transition of security responsibilities to Somalia's security institutions.

The weapons and security systems were modified and manufactured by Kenyans in their 20s, in what has been one of the country's best kept secrets. Kept away from the public, the young innovators have been working on the confidential project for two years under what is dubbed as the National Security Industrialisation Projects, we can reveal.

"Some of Kenya's best kept secret and Kenya's best kept assets is sitting in this room right here," President Uhuru Kenyatta said on October 17, when he led ministers to the KWS Law Enforcement Academy in Manyani for a Cabinet meeting.

State House announced that the President was in Manyani to "receive progress reports of several national security sector technology projects and preside over an innovation exhibition by young Kenyan techies."

But, from our inquiries, the event was more than that. It was the first time that the President was making public the existence of the young techies recruited with the help of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) from universities.

Senior government, intelligence and military officials have told the Saturday Nation that the group is "Uhuru's secret weapon against terror" and part of his effort to boost national security.

"They were recruited from university with recommendations of lecturers,"said Government Spokesperson Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna. "While some of them are fresh graduates, a number got into the project straight from lecture halls. None of them is above 30 years old."

Our inquiries have revealed that the NIS helped in picking of the group described as "some of the best brains" from universities.

Intelligence officials confirmed the assistance of NIS in the recruitment of the young innovators.

"They come from every sector of our great republic," the President said about the youth numbering about 700 in his speech at Manyani.

To keep it strictly confidential, the Head of State is said to have allowed the use of a confidential fund from the Office of the President to maintain the young techies with sources saying that the Head of State made the decision to do so to avoid politicising their funding.

And as it seems, the government is not keen to reveal the source of the funding of the innovation programme.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena told the Saturday Nation that she could not confirm if the funding came from the Office of the President while the Ministry of ICT and Youth Affairs PS Jerome Ochieng said that the Government Spokesperson was better placed to respond to queries about the project.

"Other than what was exhibited in Manyani, I am not at a position to provide more details on what we, the young innovators, have been able to modify and manufacture due to the sensitive and confidential nature of their work," Col (Rtd) Oguna said.

The President's efforts seem to have paid off, as some of their innovations have already been put to use in surveillance missions and complex security operations by KDF's Special Forces in neutralising targets.

Some of the targets were taken down deep inside enemy territory in Somalia.

Together with experts from the military, the young techies have also devised innovative technology to deal with the troubling improvised explosive devices, which are commonly used by al-Shabaab militants.

As part of the National Security Industrialisation Projects, the young techies have come up with a raft of surveillance equipment, weapons system controls, guns and ammunition and drones.

Notable among them is the CMZ-4 Assault rifle. The gun has an internal diameter of the gun barrel is 5.56×45mm and complies with NATO standards. The gun has a muzzle velocity of 875 m/s and a trigger force of 15-30 N. It can hold up to 30 rounds which are loaded using a gas or direct impingement principle.

If the JF-17 is so bad why did the Indians abandon their SU30mkis and Mig29s for Rafales after tasting its (JF17s) abilities in actual combat. grin. Now the aircraft(JF17) is being equipped with SD10s, and Block3 with PL15s which is a very serious threat to anyone.. Also, we dont need an air museum with grounded planes for lack of operational funds. Twin engine aircraft (SUs and Migs )we dont need. We get more costs per plane and less pilots and flight time from the Russian plane than the Chinese one.

First off the rafales had been planned for a while under the mmrca deal. It would also interest you to know that the Indian Air force placed an additional order for 12 additional Su-30MKI's and 21 Mig-29s in June of last year.

The JF-17's alleged kill was pure propaganda by the PAF to conceal the use of F-16s which they later made a U-turn and admitted using.

The PAF F-16s Fired about 4 or 5 missiles against the Indian Su-30s without scoring a kill as, evidenced by the crashed Aim-120 missiles shown by India, One of those missiles was even shot down by an Su-30.

If the F-16 which is vastly superior to the JF-17( a Pakistani pilot once referred to them as a poor man's F-16) could not score a kill against the Su-30 what makes you think a JF-17 can?

I'm trying to imagine if these guys were majorly black-led protesters, so many of them would be dead by now, and their protest would have received far greater condemnation , The National guard would have already been deployed ("to defend civilization"wink. The protesters would have been labeled unamerican, uncivilized ... etc And they would have been treated as organized criminal entities and not individuals, giving the FBI the pretext to go into black communities and breakdown doors of any protester 'looking for evidence' of criminal conspiracy ......
But since its white people doing this, only the leaders of these protest and only those who were caught red-handed on camera will actually be prosecuted.... And they will probably go scot free after making some argument about "defending what they believe to be their constitutional right"
