How Much Do I Need To Start A Danfo Business?? by Nobody: 6:44pm On Jan 05, 2021
Hello, men in the house.
I'm planning on investing some money into the danfo business world.
But,I still haven't gotten any tangible info from most of the researches I've made.

I know there are a lot involved in it but, I want to know roughly, the total amount of money one needs to hold on to, before venturing into the business.
With the purchase of the bus, maintenance and perhaps government clearance.
Can a million naira be able to possibly get all this things sorted out??

For a fact I won't be the one driving it, how much returns do you think the driver should drop for me everyday?

Candid advice needed.

You do not need government clearance... That is the headache of the driver to be a member of NURTW.

1m to 1.2m should get you a good danfo and I advise you give it out on hire purchase. Opting for daily returns is not always the bests as most of those drivers will mostly tell you stories to short change you and wreck your bus.

Will the hire purchase generate more money than when I actually put it on the road myself??

Transportation business is very lucrative, having done one before. It earns you money daily.

However your location (place of business) should inform your returns. In the North it's 20K per week, extreme cases 35K per week for town service but in Lagos its almost twice for a small 14 seater bus, maintenance cost should be on the driver, except for Major changes like engine...

Having said that, the main challenge is finding a reliable driver who would maintain and remit as agreed. So I will advise that you buy the vehicle, do clearance, get it road worthy and up the vehicle for a premium I.e if you spent 1 million for everything, bargain for 1.7 Million in return for a period of 1 year on the driver, this way he pays about 33K weekly for a year and the vehicle turns his. That way he sees the vehicle as his and treats it with extra care, while you make a 70% profit on the business far above 13.4% the inflammation rate in the country.

More importantly is the type of vehicle you purchase, 700K should get you a clean tokumbo with perfect engine, again here you need the help of a good mechanic and auto dealer.

As per government clearance, that's cheap and easy.

That's roughly how much?
With the auto dealer, repairers and government clearance.

Does it need drivers license or particulars as well??

You see this depends on where you stay? Here in my place, you should be looking at #750,000 bkos of the demographics things are not expensive here and auto delears deal directly from Benin republic, so they buy the vehicle at 450 or so and sell at 700 while the 50K takes care of contingencies and the clearance.

Drivers license will be taken care of by the driver, while you take care of vehicle particulars until he remits as agreed that's if you would want to give over the vehicle.

But your location seriously informs cost. But the beautiful thing is if done right you have nothing to worry about as regards profit.

Definitely, venturing into business is great stuff, but the person must know what they are doing and what they want and have a stomach for accepting losses.

Can't count How many times I've been battered.

Transportation business is high risk especially if you are not the one directly handling and managing it - keke, danfo or uber. It can run you down in a few months into the business.

Nigerian commercial motorists operating on hired purchase arrangements are the worst property managers and untrust-worthy fellows. It's takes grace for you not to commit murder and suicide when dealing with them.

Your best bet is to run it yourself. Keke, Danfo or Uber are all profitable. It depends on your capital outlay to support it. For example,
Danfo is about 950k
Uber Corolla, a very good first grade tokunbo 1.2m
Keke is about 750k.

I have known some acquaintance who started from Keke and added danfo in a few months.

The issue with danfo is the stress, not everyone doing uber can do danfo. as regards the stress "agbero" wahala. If u are not the troublesome type, you are going to find it difficult, troubles from passengers, agberos, name it, it will frustrate you, but that's if you are driving it yourself.

The prices I have for the vehicle are not correct and does not reflect the current situation.

Eya, sorry about your experience quite painful. But sincerely you can still get a good and trust worthy fellow to run it efficiently.

Talking from experience @op, if you're not going to drive the said bus yourself, please don't invest into that business. Forget all the calculations/numbers thrown around here. Look for another business that won't drain you or drive you insane. Lol

I like risky business of transportation (danfo)
I have one bus on road

I'm already immune to their styles , I know most mechanical fault, cost of parts , repairs ..

I need additional danfo but I don't have enough capital now..

That's terrible.

But,someone said hire purchase is the best bet.

Why not go to swap dealers to swap the car for a more better one?

Honestly,I notice they join one or two groups before partaking fully in the business.

Some load their buses before others while some load turn by turn.

Badly want to go into the business but,the disadvantages are too high.

Lols, it depends @Stacy

So many grounds to clear, from integrity, establishing a place of understanding, knowing your expectations and chances to take risk.

I think it's a talk outside this platform and I'd rather show you how to go about your investment in the transportation sector than handle it directly except if a place of thorough understanding and legal backing is clear.

Don't let them talk you down in venturing into the business,
Thats is how they discouraged me when I first buy my bus in 2017, but I indure all & I win in knowledge and profit plus values in the business3, now most of my friends have Bought 2-3 bus because of my courage and values in vanagon business.

Don't just be fast in quitting due to problem either from driver or the bus maintenance.

Were you driving it yourself??
no I'm not driving it myself ,

I only start driving it sometimes when i dont have job at hand after corona lockdown 2020.
What you should know is the right time for maintenance, like the underneath , wheel greasing, hub bearing change/greasing, engine oil services (3weeks), door bearing change, hydraulic refil, clutch plate rebinding, clutch pot rubber services against licking of hydraulic.

Importantly don't forget to always check your gear oil gage , banjo oil seal lickage , gear oil refill every two week ...
Remember the gear is the life of this bus and it very expensive to buy should it damage..
I repeat don't play or forget gear oil refill, check whether any lickage underneath when it pack so u can change the banjo oil seal, or the casing itself..
Naa only gear damage can kill ur moral in the business..

Other factor is you should pray against accident where there is a casualty

U better u give someone to be a manager for u who have the bus as a business , or like a mechanic, panel beater, or even conductor to manage the driver and the bus.
