What fair deal? Kenya parents in every village, meet, decided they need a school, they build it, and gov fund it. Nowadays we have Constitutuency Development Fund - run by the Member of Parliament - and that basically is given about 2M dollars annually - and they use it to top up parents land - schools and provide bursary for poor kids.

We don't wait for the generosity of the church.

Churches have their few schools and hospitals - but If we had depended on them - we would be like Ghana - a backwater.

Missionary schools in kenya are treated as private.

If they want to get gov teachers and funding - then they become public - have to cede authority to parents - who elect board and the church exit - they just become sponsors for religious purpose - although all religions are allowed.

Just30:
its a fare deal kiddo

Church built schools get run by gov;t and in exchange, gov't provide additional facilities and the churches dont get taxed

do you confirm 70% of publics schools in Ghana are missionary schools? cheesy
probably

Mind you, being a missionary school does not mean it was built by the church solely.
In Ghana, Religious organizations play important roles in politics.

So gov basically depend on goodwill of Pope to run your school?
In kenya the story is different.
We inherited 1,000 mostly missionary schools in 1963.
We began what we call harambee - fund raising - to build public schools
Mostly schools in kenya are owned by public - parents.
Nowadays the school are under what we call CDF - const dev fund - where each member of parliament is the patron.

Our schools - suffice to say are run and owned by parents (public schools with boards and PTAs) - gov provide teachers and equipment - and now chip in with CDF funding.

Ghana - to help you in your quest to go Beyond AId - you need to study Kenya Harambee motto and spirit.

Harambee is our national motto. Our football team is named Harambee Star. The president office is Harambee Office.

What is harambee - Harambee is self help - pulling together - coming together - not in communist way - but community way.

After Europeans left Kenya in 60s - we began harambee - basically pulling resources - fund raising - and building schools, dispensaries and name it.

Parents meet, they decided they need a school, they start fund-raising in harambees, buy land, build schools. Nowadays this is happening less because we have funds to build public schools.

Government does not depend on the benevolence of the Pope.

Government absorbed the Missionary schools.
And over the years Government has built so many schools on campuses of these missionary schools.

Government pays every cost of these schools.

Government absorbed all these schools for a reason. Now as we speak, Government and the Churches are in talks over whether Government should hand over the schools to the Churches or it should still have control over the schools.

I suggest you hand over gov operation to be run from Rome.
This is debate we had in 1960s.
In kenya - missionary schools - were given a choice - decide to be private or public.
Most decided to be private.

You cannot get public funds then discriminate based on religion.

Kenya kids - muslim, christians, protestants - are allowed admission to any public school.

Missionary schools and hospital in kenya are totally private.

The long and short of this whole argument is,

In Ghana, Government run the missionary schools.

In Kenya the missionaries run their own schools.

Can we make progress?

Ghanain parent do not need to ask for a school before they get i.

Once the community is of a few 1000 people, they get a primary school.
Once the population is above 10,000, They get a mission school in addition
once the population grows into the 100 of thousands, they get a cluster of schools and school complexes.

The church have access to lands, once they provide land for a school project they want to start.
Their church members begin the construction with their development money and go into negotiations with gov't for support.
The district assembly help them complete their project and provide other amenities to complete the school as per GES standard.

All mission schools in Ghana are public, whether state-assisted built mission school or sole built mission schools.
Gov't end up running them while the church provide the principals who are usually selected by the church council at national level in collaboration with GES.

I really doubt that there is an automatic system in place that decided that.
I also doubt that church has land everywhere.

Now the double track thing make sense - because you clearly lack education facilities - you're at the mercy of churches.

In Kenya - if 10 parents meet and decide - they are far off from nearest school - they can build one - and gov will supply teachers.

Nowadays the gov build- in my village - they recently decided to build another primary school - we are fewer than 20 families - CDF bought the land - and County gov built the pre-primary - and the MP (CDF) has built 4 initial classes.

Obviously people from poor areas - in kenya - would rather they open a school under a tree - than wait for the pope to build them one.

Gov't cant sit and watch a half baked school

In registering the school, the school have to be at a certain level of development.

So most of the infrastructure have to be provided by gov't anyway because it becomes a public school.

The church has 30K primary school producing idiots like you - who probably spend a lot of time gramming bibical verse and chanting Jesus Jesus like Nigerians - than studying.

No wonder you're as obtuse as Somali who went to Madrassa...and spent all the time studying Koran ...instead of basic critical thinking.

Or like Nigerians - where someone is a criminal and a strong christian at the same time smiley smiley. I bet Ghanaians are the same - Church is basically all you know - you went to church school - all your life.

Kenya gov control the schools, the curriculum and everything.

Church in kenya are left to run their private affairs including preaching.

That is why schools in Ghana are very powerful places.

Today those same churches have huge universities as part of the free tax regime on the church and in exchange, they keep their university feesin the range of public universities.

Why would you tax churches? We don't tax churches. But we don't allow them to get into gov. Kenya is a secular nation. The freedom of religion ends there.

Kenya gov has changed education system from British system like Ghana to Canada system 8-4-4 - and now we are into Competence Based Learning - and if we were waiting for Pope to agree - we would be like you. If we decide to teach sex education - we don't wait for Pope.

Functionally illiterates folks.

You are showing your village instinct.

Institutions are run differently in different countries.

In some countries, private schools are superior to public schools.
In Ghana, public schools are rather superior to private institutions.

Little Education for you.

The catholic/other churches or muslims mission
-do not build school infrastructures
-They do not train Teachers
-They do not pay salaries
-They do not employ any worker
Government does everything so what do you mean by that Harambee rubbish?

The Churches/muslim mission are only responsible for training the students through their beliefs and what not.
