Our attention has been drawn to the inclusion of some erroneous pictures amongst those posted earlier on the terrorists’ gun trucks & other vehicles destroyed by the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE (ATF OPLD) at Marte on 15/16 January 2021.
On further investigation, it has been discovered that the pictures sent from the OPLD Theatre inadvertently included a few pictures from other encounters with terrorist elements. The error is highly regretted.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) wishes to state that the inclusion of the pictures was not deliberate & does not take anything away from the huge success of the air operation that dealt a decisive blow on the terrorists as shown in the widely circulated video.
Most of the pictures earlier circulated were indeed from the recent successful air strikes at Marte. The few erroneous pictures have now been expunged & all pictures here are those from the “Battle of Marte”. Thank you for your understanding and continued support for the NAF .

Bandits killed JTF commander in Zamfara

Reports has just rented the public air that the commander of Joint Task Force (JTF), Zamfara state, JF London has brutally been shot dead by armed bandits.. Circumstances which led to his Killing still remains scanty at the time of this report, the JTF commander who was hit by fore head with bullet, reportedly died instantly.

Sources from Zamfara stated that the incident occurred “After Huge donations to Bandits by Zamfara Governor “Hilux and Dollars” Bandits now armed to teeth fully equipped; JTF commander JF London in Zamfara state, killed by bandit just now”, it stated. Recall that the current state government had allegedly donated Hilux vehicles to the bandits and given them some dollars, in a bide to stop their activities in the state..

"After Huge donations to terrorists by Zamfara Governor "Hilux and Dollars," terrorists now armed to teeth fully equipped; JTF commander JF London in Zamfara state, has been killed by terrorists just yesterday..."

If anyone has ever followed/read about COIN/CT operations worldwide, you will acknowledge that nobody fights such wars without air support because insurgents overwhelm you with numbers etc.
You will never find American or UK troops deploying without air support because they know they will be overwhelmed. It is the first thing they call for when they hear the sound of a bullet.

Now the Nigerian military has finally bitten the bullet and understands that and now that the required platforms are arriving, it is goodnight Vienna for BH.

From what I have seen and reported the Chadians do not have much of an airforce ( in actual fact I doubt if they have up to one tenth of the armoured vehicles that Nigeria has) but are revered and regarded as the desert Warriors of Africa.

Putting your proposition about air support to question as the overriding component for success.

Yes bro. Cameroonians from the Southern/Central Borno axis, while Chadians from the Northern Borno axis.

The Operation is going to begin simultaneously. I Heard it's the Final Showdown cool

A Colonel here told us it's going to be massive. I mentioned here last week of lots of Artillery piece from the Nigeria Army rolling in.

February will definitely be a month to remember.

In the Colonel words " They know we are coming for them, but we are coming for them
"

This joint coordinated effort particularly with the Chadians gives us great optimism. That this will not end in rhetoric but actual gains on the ground PERMANENTLY.

And ultimately an end to the scourge of Boko and it's permutations.

This is the problem I have with the police force, they should be the ones responsible for preventing the terrorists from seeking cover with the civilians in the various towns liberated.
They should be training tens of thousands of recruits and officers by now to effectively police the northeast and northwest. But we all know the gist.
Aided by the intelligence agencies.

My opinion is that the framework exists already it's matter for remodelling and upscale of thier equipment.

I am talking of the Nigerian Mobil police there are probably at least 40k units of them. They should be armed with APC's, HMG, LAV, MRAPS and carry out a rear guard action and have a consolidation strategy for areas liberated.

I do believe we are yet to completely remove the historical vestiges of Miltary rule. Thats why the police were kept always weaker than the army and many military combatants feel that they are superior and above the law.

I have raised the question of judicious and innovative procurement for best value. For example we have bought maybe 25 Chinese MBT VT4, it's HIGHLY INADEQUATE to cover the north East. Talk less the other multiple areas of contention across the North.

There are far better alternatives that constitute better value and for greater spatial impact for the areas of contention.

Sahara Reporter, aka, number one enemy of Nigeria is already dragging NAF for posting fake images as images of recent ops in Marte. Out of the four images posted by NAF, only one was old yet Sahara Reporter is discrediting the veracity of the entire collection.

I don't blame them though, sychopant who care more about their pocket than the military have continued posting old images as new muddling the whole thing up and when they are corrected, they labeled people as jealous and unpatriotic.

This is also why some people have issues with most of us on this thread, especially when they posts old images and videos claiming they are new.

MINISTER OF INFORMATION COMMENDS NAF AS NAFIL, PAPEL IMAGE TECH PREMIERE THE MOVIE, “EAGLE WINGS” IN ABUJA

The Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has commended the untiring efforts of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, for utilizing the media space to enlighten citizens and other stakeholders about the tremendous contributions of the NAF to both internal security and off-shore Air Power projections in support of Nigeria’s national interests. The Honourable Minister also applauded the NAF Investments Limited (NAFIL) and Papel Image Tech for the conceptualization and making of the movie “Eagle Wings” with a great storyline that reflects the reality in the NAF and the undying determination to succeed in the defence of Nigeria and Nigerians. The Honourable Minister made the commendations yesterday, 19 January 2021, at the glamorous Private Premiere of the epic motion picture “Eagle Wings”, which took place at the NAF Officers’ Mess and Suites, Kado, Abuja.

Speaking further at the colourful ceremony, which attracted some Government functionaries as well as the crème de la crème of the Nigerian film industry, Alhaji Lai Mohammed noted that the movie vividly portrays how the NAF optimally leverages air capabilities and humanitarian efforts, with the available resources and manpower, to win the hearts and minds in the overall national strategic approach to attaining victory in the war against terrorism and insurgency. He described the movie as the best film he has ever watched. “I am highly impressed with the quality of production and the professional way in which the actors played their roles. I must say, that ‘Eagle Wings’ has undoubtedly set a new standard for Nollywood, and would also project the image of the NAF far beyond the shores of our great Nation, further boosting Nigeria’s international prestige”, he said.

While congratulating the NAF and other stakeholders for the giant stride and for being part of history to witness the unveiling of the first Motion Picture of its kind in West Africa as a whole and Nigeria in particular, the Honourable Minister stated that the NAF's positive engagement of media to promote public enlightenment has received national, continental and global accolades over the years and especially in past 2 years. He said, with the movie and other significant landmark achievements, the unrelenting drive to reposition the Service as a leading Air Force on the continent was already yielding results. Alhaji Mohammed urged all Nigerians to continue to imbibe the requisite values and keenly exploit every medium that would help to foster unity in the Country. He also enjoined Nigerians to embrace the culture of supporting the Armed Forces in fighting criminality in the Country and appreciate the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces. According to him, “I therefore enjoin us all to make use of this movie as a tool for creating awareness in the public about the critical roles of the Armed Forces in national security and nation building”.

In his opening remarks, the CAS, stated that the idea of producing the “Eagle Wings” motion picture was given consideration to avail the Nigerian public, in particular, and indeed, the world, as a whole, with a fresh perspective to better appreciate the immeasurable sacrifices of officers, airmen/airwomen and their families, towards bringing peace and security to the Country. The motion picture, the CAS noted, employs world-class cinematography to present a moving story which captures the crucial roles and efforts of the NAF in the ongoing counter insurgency operations in the North East. Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that it has always been his desire to see the Service break new frontiers that would not only place the Service on the pedestal of landmark achievements but also set the pace for others to emulate the NAF's collective efforts at securing the Nation.

Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the Premiere event offered the opportunity to celebrate one of such achievements aimed at projecting the operational capacity of the NAF, both kinetic and otherwise, as well as the gains in the in the ongoing fight against insurgency. The movie, he said, highlights the efficacy of the NAF’s efforts beyond bombs and bullets, to win the hearts and minds of people in troubled areas. The CAS commended the collaboration of NAFIL and Messrs Papel Image Tech, as well as the tireless efforts of the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information and the NAF Advisory Committee to bring the amazing story to the big screen. The CAS therefore encouraged NAFIL and Messrs Papel Image Tech to ensure sustainability of the commendable effot by producing more movies that depict other aspects of contributions of the NAF, and indeed the Armed Forces of Nigeria as a whole, to national security. This, he said, would go a long way to educate the Nigerian public and enlighten the global community, while chronicling the success stories of NAF gallant troops, in order to forestall gaps in history.

The CAS noted further that the continued collaboration would further raise the unprecedented standards of professionalism demonstrated in the making of the movie, “Eagle Wings”, which would greatly benefit the Nigerian Movie Industry. “Be rest assured that Headquarters NAF will continue to give all necessary support to NAFIL to achieve the desired objectives in its numerous lofty projects”, he said. The CAS expressed the heartfelt gratitude of officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his unwavering and relentless support to the Service. He also appreciated members of the National Assembly, especially the Senate and House Committees on Air Force, for their unwavering commitment to equip the Service with the wherewithal to fulfil its constitutional roles.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman NAFIL Board of Directors, Air Vice Marshal Clement Ogbeche, noted that the actualization of the movie “Eagle Wings” Project bears eloquent testimony to the faith that the current leadership of the NAF has in the ability of fellow countrymen to achieve great heights if the enabling environment is provided. Speaking further, AVM Ogbeche stated that the Project also espoused the zeal to build local capacity across several core competencies in the NAF. He said the drive for robust human capacity development by the current NAF leadership has brought about the enactment of numerous Memoranda of Understanding for strategic partnerships with notable higher educational institutions and key stakeholders across relevant fields. According to him, the NAF is generating and consolidating unprecedented capabilities in such areas as Combat and Combat Support Operations, Aeronautics, Surveillance and Geospatial Technologies, amongst others.

Highlight of the event was the presentation, unveiling and actual screening of the “Eagle Wings” Motion Picture, which was coordinated by the Managing Director NAFIL, AVM Uchechi Nwagwu, and heralded by rave reviews from all those present. There was also presentation of commemorative plaques to the Guest of Honour and the CAS as well as former Chiefs of Defence and Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin and AVM Femi John Femi (retired), who had characters in the movie named after them. Other dignitaries that graced the unveiling of the epic movie were the Minister of Special Duties, Senator George Akume, Representatives of Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs, Branch Chiefs from the Defence and NAF Headquarters, Air Officers Commanding, National President, Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association, Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar, film industry key stakeholders as well as cast and crew of the motion picture and retired senior officers, amongst others.

Putting your proposition about air support to question as the overriding component for success.

The centre of the insurgency is not Chad, but Nigeria. If BH/ISWAP were domiciled in a region of Chad, they will have long been in trouble without the help/support of France.

It is far easier to deploy to a foreign country or the odd operation, even with limited air power, and then have the luxury of retreating without the daily grind of being attacked by BH/ISWAP. Mind you, even Chad is equipped with SU-25, Mi-35s & armed Mi-17 helos, which they use. France has saved them on a couple of occasions, if i'm not mistaken, when rebels invaded from the north and were repelled by French Mirage 2000s (example of air power in use).
When Bagram air base was attacked on several occasions in Afghanistan, what was the first thing the allies requested? Airpower. Even when out on patrol, the teams were not far away from air support when called upon. There were occasions the British didn't get the support in good time with predictable outcomes. See below extract:

"The lack of one or two pairs of eyes above the patrols meant the enemy could deploy undetected, could manoeuvre unseen, could retreat safely to kill again another day.  The absence of an aircraft the troops would have had seventy years ago has meant that there has been no radio relay facility in difficult situations when, as so often, the Bowman radios failed to work, and no safe reconnaissance vehicle was available for the battalion commanders' liaison visits.

Let us look at just two examples, the first being the morning Lieutenant Mark Evison led a platoon of twenty men on a reconnaissance patrol to investigate some compounds the Taliban had used as firing points.  The enemy responded within thirty minutes, but with no SMA overhead the patrol was confused about the sources of the crossfire.  When one source was identified and mortar support needed, radio failure prevented the request being made.  An SMA would have acted alone with small bombs or machine gun, or would have called the fire support team directly.

Tragic: Lieutenant Mark Evison's life-support machine was switched off after he suffered acute injuries as a consequence of coming under Taliban fire

When Evison's radio failed too, he exposed himself while trying to communicate with one of his section leaders by hand signals and voice, and he was hit.  When the Taliban fire then became more intense, his men realised that they were caught in a 360 degree ambush mounted by fifty to sixty insurgents and, outnumbered three-to-one, that they had a serious problem.  A couple of SMAs above them would have changed this picture radically."

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2158676/Lack-sufficient-aircraft-jeapardised-Britains-military-capability-led-avoidable-sacrifice-Helmand.html

Whilst not minimising properly trained personnel in COIN/CT (which the COAS has been concentrating on building up the last few years), airpower can be pivotal and be the deciding factor and provide the overwhelming advantage in crushing the enemy. You are not looking at being on par with an enemy that doesn't value life and would quite happily sarcrifice itself, but you want the ability to exterminate them with overwhelming firepower.

Sahara Reporters was not responsible for exposing the error the NAF made, it was Tomasz - https://mobile.twitter.com/TomaszRolbiecki SR just tried to grab the glory as they constantly look for negative stories to publish and avoid positive news like the plague.

it was merely an error and some wrong photos were used,, not that the decimation of BH technicals and men didn't happen. The right pictures have now been posted, same result.

SR has continued a campaign to discredit the Government by only publishing bad news and not even correcting their reports when they have been exposed on numerous occasions just because their man, Sowore, didn't win in 2019 (as if). He called for a revolution, which is treasonable, and amongst the people who tried to hijack the EndSars protest for his selfish reasons. He was arrested and again and again kept breaching his bail conditions while his paper continued their agenda. Honesty and Truth are very far from SR.

I see you are saying Lekki Gate Crisis and not Lekki Massacre, which didn't happen. The only thing that the army denied was being there and nothing else.
