Nigerians? No!!!
We are bunch of terrible people.
This is a common experience, organizations, families, domestic staff and all. These things come back to hurt these culprits and they turn back to blame government. This guy and his children will suffer for this and blame APC and Buhari. It's so unfortunate how people enjoy ruining things for themselves.
Can these kind of people be in elected and appointed positions? Saraki and co will be learners mehn

You can't do everything if you have a very busy schedule
True, but are you willing to leave for work knowing there's a stranger in your house that's capable of doing anything! I tell you one thing, never in your life trust a housemaid no matter how innocent they look or act. These people can do anything for cash! It's all disguise, they're all the same! Terrible lots like this! You can leave them in your home and by the time you're back, all your valuables are gone! The best is to get a maid that cleans the house under supervision and goes back to his place the same day (day to day maid).

Never rehire him. He will do just fine on his own. Remember the young entrepreneur - the Gokada guy? Remember how the same thieving staff ended up murdering him? Be careful sir

A cook with five children in Lagos would need to be frugal in order to survive in Lagos with a 100k salary even if his wife earns same. Most Nigerians are neither frugal nor honourable enough not to steal in this situation. This reminds of a commercial bus driver stealing from the owner until he was caught and sacked, the mallam was left jobless without an income source to feed his family. Very bad and shameful of Nigerians.
Those he have five children

Let him face the reality, he has been using your food to feed his fives so he should go out dia and get them food. Apart from his salary he gets tp allowance, Maybe he will appreciate God now.

I was almost accused of kidnapping when the police turned it upside down. That how did I end with the kids for years if not kidnap. My image and that of my family in the area was seriously dented. Thankfully we treated the kids well and they wore the same clothes mine wore and eat the same meal so many people in the community knew it was a ploy. But the experience is one that seriously damaged my soul.

I will hardly help people again. Hardly.
Why are people like this for goodness sake, !

Very sad reading this. God will surely vindicate you. I've experienced something fairly similar but was saved by the girl's family members who vouched for me. I learnt a bitter lesson and now give remotely mostly.

Please don't stop being kind to people. Get involved in charities where you don't need to have direct personal relationships. It will bring joy to your soul and help you heal. Orphanages, Widow Foundations, Special Kids etc require a lot of support. God bless you much more.

I really don't think you should generalize, because you have obviously not encountered all Nigerians. Thank you.

There is no problem with generalization. It has always been done in statistics and always will be. i have generalized nigerians as a terrible people but i appreciate the good ones among them.

$300 salary for a family man will barely be enough cry
I'm single and living with my brother, and we spend more than 100k a month on ourselves - data, feeding, transportation and stuff.
Rent not inclusive, offerings, donations and other things.

Nigeria is truly the world poverty capital!

I was just thinking about this. In the US $300 is a family's utility bill for a month. But I know there are folks in Nigeria, family men, sole breadwinners, who earn considerably less that $300. This chef dude is just a spoilt, greedy fool.

This could backfire on him.

He is a Ceo of wakanow, a company with liberal investors and ideas

This remark is very dangerous for the company image.

This is something to keep private, nowadays, social justice warriors on Twitter and Facebook can not set the boundaries between a company, the CEO and his personal opinion.

Seriously, hiring househelps in whatever guise now is a risky venture.

There's usually some external influence even when the person is good. We see many cases of people being killed or robbed by their domestic workers these days

Oga hire him back....only if he can apologize and wish to come back. Then you give him 3months probation and pay him half of his salary to serve as disciplinary measures. Make sure he doesn't go to market with cash, restrict him to kitchen only. If a serving Col. can be defrauding people in Nigeria...never trust no one.

Some people are just naturally thieves and ungrateful bunch.

One of his problems stems from having 5 children.......in this generation? He will forever be chasing the wind!

No, don't hire him back.

He'd better done that fast! I mean, reinstate the Chef. At least, for the sake of the madness of the fried rice he (Chef) cooks. grin

There are people you don't hastily fire. This is why you don't hastily hire them as well. They include your Personal Driver, Personal Assistants, Security Detail, Chef and House Helps/Assistants.

Apart from your life, your secret and that of your family is practically in the hands of these people. They can trade it for cash if the devil decide to open shop on their head. So, if all they do wrong, is stealing petty things from you once in a while, you'd better simply call them to order, while knowing fully well that it would repeat itself.

This is why you must carefully use proper channels to hire the right people for these roles and also continue to treat them well by paying their salaries promptly and rewarding their loyalty/productivity regularly with cash.

Also, ensure important rooms and information are well guarded.

Very odd, they could have simply asked to leave. Why make drama unless they perceived someone in your household may have complicated the going out process for them? Or they probably did all that to make themselves feel better and make it seem they didn't owe you anything. undecided

100K per month its not a joke, a lot of graduates out there don't even earn up to that in a month.
