I'm sorry to hear about your story. But we have to be very careful about who we help. I can remember seeing a real life crime episode where a man took in a homeless couple. Gave them a place to live and some money to take care of their daily needs. Sadly, they ended up conspiring to kill him. They were so heartless. I won't give you the gruesome details, but that changed me forever. I only help people I genuinely know and care about -- very close friends and family. I never help strangers. It's good to be kind, but being kind to the wrong people can even put your life at risk. It's sad, but that's how the world works.

It is well

"I gave it all to him and told him not to come back again. I paid him for the time he had worked during the month. I know I am overly nice."
And we wonder why the Nigerian system is rotten and doesn't work. By letting him go free without prosecution, he is being let loose back into society to continue stealing with nothing on his record. His next employer is in trouble. Second, why in the world would you think you're being nice by paying someone for the time they worked? This mentality is common amongst Nigerian employers and itself is a thieving mentality. A workman is entitled to their wages. You are not doing him a favor by paying him.
I think your head is paining you. he said he let him keep everything he stole that was inside his bag and still paid him for the work he had done. would it not be logical to tabulate everything he stole and deduct it from his salary and pay him the rest ? but he did not do that so yes he did him a favor by paying him his whole salary he had worked for

What do you do if you run into an old school mate, he was looking spent and worn out, no job, no house and you felt life has not been kind to him.
You offer him a job in your own establishment, made him "Admin officer" to look after other staff and gave him a room self-contained in your own house.
You really treat him life family because you dont want him to feel that you are looking down on him due to his unfortunate circumstances in life.
A few Months down the line, you catch him on top of your own wife, in your own bed.

Do you blame yourself for being nice and caring or you just develop a very bad attitude towards helping others?
People will always be people, INGRATES.
is this a true story ?

Some people are just naturally thieves and ungrateful bunch.

One of his problems stems from having 5 children.......in this generation? He will forever be chasing the wind!

No, don't hire him back.

Leaders and followers, no difference.

I won't be shocked the chef criticizes Buhari.

True, but are you willing to leave for work knowing there's a stranger in your house that's capable of doing anything! I tell you one thing, never in your life trust a housemaid no matter how innocent they look or act. These people can do anything for cash! It's all disguise, they're all the same! Terrible lots like this! You can leave them in your home and by the time you're back, all your valuables are gone! The best is to get a maid that cleans the house under supervision and goes back to his place the same day (day to day maid).

People can be at home monitoring maid when they have to work.

"I Now Understand Why People Treat Domestic Staff Like Sh*t" - Wakanow CEO Narrates Experience With His Chef

The CEO of Wakanow, Bayo Adedeji took to his Facebook handle to narrate his experience with his chef which made him change his perception about Nigerian domestic staff, IgbereTV reports.

According to him, he treats his chef well, pays him a reasonable monthly salary and even adds additional cash as transport allowance.

He found out that the food bill was going high despite the fact that he was not entertaining guests due to the pandemic.

Mr Adedeji said he then decided to go shopping himself but only two weeks after, he was shocked to find that some of the supplies had finished. He was later disappointed as he caught his chef moving some foodstuff from his house.

Read his post below.

Oga, in your words you said, "America taught me to assume innocent till proven guilty not the other way around like typical". So in my humble opinion, I'll not say your chef stole from you until proven guilty by a competent court. Secondly, I also have to hear from your chef before saying my mind

$300 salary for a family man will barely be enough cry
I'm single and living with my brother, and we spend more than 100k a month on ourselves - data, feeding, transportation and stuff.
Rent not inclusive, offerings, donations and other things.

Nigeria is truly the world poverty capital!

Are people paid salaries according to their dependents or their value?

100k is more than enough salary for a cook. The fact that the cook has 5 kids is not the employer's problem and not a reason to steal him blind. He was an ingrate.

It's JESUS that Changes the Heart of man. Nothing else.

In Nigeria who is a thief and who is not is subjective, for example an oga that earns 50m a year by shaddy deals will call a domestic staff a thief for stealing 20k worth of food items.
simply because that's not his level, although he himself will gladly steal millions and call it business.

It's a hard thing to find an honest man without a changed heart in Christ Jesus.
Peace

I will ignore your insults and focus on bringing out the key points. You cannot unilaterally decide to deduct from someone's salary the value of stolen items. Who decides the value of the items? It seems logical but its not legal. This is one distinction between our 18th century jungle justice society and how 21st century societies operate, which is where we profess to want to be. Legally, he is still on the hook to pay him for time worked.
The correct thing to do would have been to fire the chef as he rightly did, recover his items, prosecute the chef and pay him his salary! All legal and above board and the entire society at large benefits rather than whine on social media.

I was almost accused of kidnapping when the police turned it upside down. That how did I end with the kids for years if not kidnap. My image and that of my family in the area was seriously dented. Thankfully we treated the kids well and they wore the same clothes mine wore and eat the same meal so many people in the community knew it was a ploy. But the experience is one that seriously damaged my soul.

I will hardly help people again. Hardly.
