Am just imagining the scene where the man and his elders were deliberating and reached the conclusion that his wife's wings must be clipped by decreeing that she quits her job and becoming a housewife, so that the husband can regain his masculinity.

Him and his family have problems. So because she is "their wife", she should quit her job to help her husband's ego and to save her marriage at the detriment of her own career.

They should also ask her to change the names on the houses to the husband's name too so that all the children he has outside will come and contest her sweat with her own children
