A teaching hospital is so called because it where doctors are taught clinical medicine..
If you want ur privacy, go to a private hospital
Tell em bruv! I even thought his agitation was on something more reasonable!

mtchewwww.....

so if its an emergency which needs student's attention and in other angle needs to save the patient's live, they should Bureaucratically be looking for the consent of the family ahbi??

Normal in teaching hospitals. They have zero regards for privacy. I had a bed ridden friend who had a female student nurse shave his balls. So embarassing.
Are you for real? grin.... What was his reaction like? Did he have a hard-on?
Re: Exposing Of Patients To Student Doctors In Teaching Hospitals Without Consent by cococandy(f): 8:29pm On Jan 27, 2021
The patient’s consent is still needed. And if the patient says no, the student has no choice but to excuse themselves from that examination.
It sucks but patient autonomy comes first.

People seem to forget that the teaching hospitals mainly exist for the student's sake.
Teaching is a major part of any teaching hospital. Infact, they do 60%more teaching activities than ordinary clinical activities. Every clinical activity sef is a teaching session, so raise that to 90%.. As they are teaching students, they are teaching their resident Drs too.
If there were no students, these specialists would be running their own show in private hospitals where you can pay them their true worth.
They are actually paid teaching allowances

They are Heartless ,They Prefers using a very sick person case to Teach Students rather than Taking care if the Patient .That was how I lost a dear one some Years ago at Lasuth Ikeja .She was dying and the Doctor was just using her to describe a Medical case .

Lost my grandma back in 2015 in LUTH.
Saw student doctors working on my grandma and prescribing drugs and test...
So painful.

Has anyone ever investigated the number of deaths when or immediately after Nigerian doctors/nurses go on strike...its alarming?

The fact that students are suppose to learn doesn't mean they should invite the students without the patients consent. The doctor should be polite enough to ask if a patient will be comfortable should the doctor invite the students. Patients will be lying down naked and u will just call some strangers in. It's crazy

I understand your point of view
But i doubt if any patient would give his/her consent to such..and i think(I stand to be corrected) it's part of any teaching hospital policy to expose her students to practicals(that's why it's teaching hospital).

Anyways, to avoid such, it is better to avoid teaching hospitals.

You should have shaved it for him then.
He's bed ridden and likely couldnt shave himself properly before the procedure they were going to do on him.
The kind nurse helped him do it.
Do you think they enjoy holding different balls, some stinky?
A male nurse should have handled that. If you were the one, I doubt you'd be able to look that girl in the eye for the rest of your life.

This comment is incredibly ignorant.
You have a right to privacy even in a teaching hospital
The way you guys say what you don't know anything about with such confidence amazes me.

Reading comments on some posts, I think that we deserve the kind of leaders that we have.

Consent is important in everything, written or implied.
Coming to the hospital ( Teaching hospital inclusive) does not mean, you rights are burnt.

You can exercise your rights at any point of the hospital journey.

You can voice your preference at any point, like you want a male or female to examine you. If you are discriminated against or denied anything because you chose to exercise your right or preference. You have a ground to sue.

For the Professionals in healthcare, aside consent always ask for a Chaperone when dealing with Service users especially the opposite gender. It is for your protection, not the other way.

He made mention of seeking the patient consent, which I think is the right thing be it a teaching hospital or not. I was once admitted into a teaching hospital for a surgery, the doctor in charge came and told me they needed my consent for the students doctors to attend to me at a discount though, which I politely objected.
How will young doctors learn if everybody start politely objecting?

Nigerians should learn to sacrifice things for the sake of humanity.

In other countries, people give out all their organs at the point of death.

And it has helped in saving lives within their countries.

In Nigeria, any small transplant is India.
The organs are not in the country.

If we can't even spare our privacy for the sake of science, is it organs we will donate?

you are wrong. Consent of the patients is very important.
Patients should be compensated if they are used for teaching medical students or for clinical examinations.

Are you sure she signed any privacy agreement between her and the teaching hospital in question?
Or she based on her crude instincts to get fixated on this matter of students and her breasts?

Imagine if they start asking patients for their consent and they all decline, how will those students learn the practical process.

So far they are descreet with it without any form of documenting for public to know, then I see no reason why they should seek your consent.
They are all doctors and have right to touch and see any part of your body in the process of treating you.

A patient has d right to tell a doctor not to treat him/her where it involves invasion of privacy. In that case,d doctor hands off and allows d patient to enjoy his/her right to privacy.

Same thing once happened to me in a private hospital when I went for appendix operation. By the time of shaving the stomach and manhood area, the ladies all surrounded me while one held man TIN and they were all smiling.
I vexed inside but was helpless.

It's a teaching hospital, and you are the sick patient. Unless you or the person that brought you did not see the signboard when entering. How will the students be taught without you?

Such a foolish post. People like you made me stop wondering why everything is wrong in this country. Your ilk always have a reason to defend the many things that make ours a third word country.

No he thought Drs are taught with mannequins. it is teaching hospital. i am very sure when you register you would have to agree to be used for teaching purposes but Nigerians dont read anyways
You people surprise me. That it is a teaching hospital does not strip the patient of their right to privacy. Consent ought to be sought. You think in a developed country a doctor can do that to a patient because it is a teaching hospital? Come on!
