Why It's Unwise To Say That Jesus Drank Alcohol And Was A Drunkard

It's because the wise would never say such a thing because they would know much better than that!

Jesus said:

"John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children."
Matthew 11:18-19 (KJV)

Jesus on this occasion was speaking about what the unwise were saying concerning Him and John the baptist His forerunner, hence His saying, "But wisdom is justified of her children"!

And chief among the unwise were the Pharisees who were haters of both He and John the Baptist. So they didn't see anything good in what they both did and wanted to cast them in bad light, hence their finding fault in John for not eating and drinking and saying that he had a devil, yet when Jesus came eating and drinking, they yet found fault again saying that He was a glutton and a drunkard.

So the saying of theirs is false and malicious, and shouldn't be taken as true and used to assume that Jesus drank alcohol or was a drunkard, because it would be unwise to do so because "wisdom is justified of her children"!

Moreover that saying about John "not eating and drinking", or Jesus "eating and drinking" didn't mean that John never ate and drank or that Jesus always ate food and drank alcohol, but simply that John observed fasts while Jesus didn't.

For the same people who said such about Him were the ones who asked Jesus why His disciples don't fast but eat and drink:

Luke 5:33 (KJV)

And they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often, and make prayers, and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees; but thine eat and drink?

So it was about John the baptist fasting and the Pharisees finding fault in that, yet when Jesus came not fasting, the Pharisees still found fault, not that Jesus was taking alcohol!

Also the instance of Jesus turning water to wine in the marriage at Cana in Galilee, is another one which the unwise use to say such things about Jesus and that He also endorsed the taking of alcohol.

But this was what the governor of the feast said to show the kind of wine that Jesus had turned the water into:

"Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now." {John 2:9-10 (KJV)}

That shows that the wine that Jesus turned water into was different from the normal wine, because the wine that the governor of the feast thought was worse was what actually that they considered to be good wine. But the wine which Jesus had turned water into made the wine they considered good to appear worse, because the wine was a different kind of wine and much better than what they considered to be good wine.

That alone should be enough for the wise who are spiritually discerning to know that the wine Jesus turned water into wasn't alcoholic as the "good" wine which they were used to, but a non-alcoholic wine.

So it's only the unwise that wouldn't be able to discern that difference, but go on to claim that the wine Jesus turned water into was alcoholic just as the Pharisees would, "but Wisdom is justified of Her children"!
Re: Why It's Unwise To Say That Jesus Drank Alcohol And Was A Drunkard by jesusjnr2020(m): 6:55am On Jan 31, 2021
John the Baptist the forerunner of Jesus who was meant to prepared His way, was said to not drink nor be drunk with alcohol but filled with Holy Ghost:

Luke 1:15 (KJV)

For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

If that was said of the forerunner of Jesus, it shouldn't be hard for the wise to figure out that Jesus who filled John the baptist with the Holy Ghost from His mother's womb was even more of that.

Jesus was also shown to have advised His disciples against the taking of alcohol, because of how it could undermine their ability to watch and be ready for His coming.

Luke 21:34 (KJV)

And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Matthew 24:48-51 (KJV)

But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So if Jesus could advise His disciples not to drink alcohol with the drunken and get drunk, the wise would understand that Jesus had led by example and not drank alcohol with the drunken and gotten drunken otherwise He wouldn't have given His disciples such instructions.

But it's only the unwise that would believe that Jesus didn't lead His disciples by example and was drinking alcohol with the drunken and getting drunk, but as Jesus said, "wisdom is justified of her children"!

God bless.

I knew he drank and feasted with 'sinners'

Jesus drank.

But I wouldn't call him a drunkard, no evidence of that....

I see what u did, typical 'christain'

u decided to rubbish other people's intelligence by specifically using the word drunkard, u did that to gain sympathy....

He was never accused of being a drunk, he himself said he was seen drinking and eating with sinners and they try to blackmail him, what do sinners eat and drink, if it was water, would it have made common sense to accuse him of drinking water

I don't think anyone called him that, u just want to be sensational and appeal to blackmail the others easily....

Didn't u hear Jesus said that Man is not defiled by what goes into his mouth but only by what comes out of his heart..... Digest that....

Jesus drank, no biggie

Jesus turned water into wine and yeah it was alcoholic beverage, who needs your ridiculous opinion on that....

Na I too know they worry u people sometimes

U are liar too and then u started threatening people who wouldn't agree with u with ambiguous Bible verses....

what's your problem, NA ONLY U GET JESUS

How will Jesus be a drunkard.
...

I find it hard to believe that certain denomination of Christians tag alcohol taking a sin even when taken moderately.

Archeologists have uncovered vine yards and wine presses around the area of Galilee and most Palestine, what they found was presses that would produce alcoholic beverages not juice....

What's wrong if people of old drank alcohol, u want to rewrite history to suit your own mind and sell it to stupid followers, say the truth and be free....

Most of you born agains are the worst of liars....

The first miracle of Jesus in the Bible was turning water to alcoholic wine as was common back then.

This is reality
That was NOT the question. Was Jesus a drunkard?NO.During his stay on earth,he was human and men drank wine during his time.If his work of salvation entails he mingle and dine with sinners who are drunkards in order to save them, that means he occassionally drank wine but that does NOT mean he's a drunkard.Or did the Bible mention that Jesus ever got intoxicated or drank himself to stupor?

You one become Jesus na. Twisting the word to try to make a point when it's very glaring that he drank.
He turned water to wine in a marriage. That happened in an ancient land in Africa. Africa is a land shadowing with wings(covered with palm trees) see my profile. Those trees produce wine an ancient natural drink the creator himself created for us for the nourishment and refreshing of our bodies. It's the ancient drink used when ppl are celebrating anything.

He clearly ate and drank with sinners but his aim is to win them over. There is no how sinners will gather and their won't be an acholic drink or palmy

The passover that they eat that you ppl have corrupted to holy communion and others was actually meat from the passover lamb slained and palm wine. The Son of Man I know ate the passover.

I can even go on. What our creator and the scriptures spoke against is drunkenness. Wine and gin are created for us naturally for refreshing the body and healing in times of sicknesses. If your system can carry it, drink moderately, if it can't, don't drink. Don't teach what you don't know and have a a lot of backing from scripture so you won't be demonizing what was created for us. When our ancestors use only herbs and gin for treatment of sicknesses and diseases, Africans live long but since we started taking Westerners medications, our ppl die younger.

Jesus said "John was not drinking..." but He "came drinking...". It's either you mean Jesus said He came drinking water while John never took water all his life, or Jesus was referring to wine in the drinking part. What Jesus said is straightforward. He took wine, and the Pharisees charged Him for being a drunkard (not because He was one, but just to tarnish His image). I don't think the Pharisees would charge Him if He was taking fruit juice.

I've read so many silly things people charge Christ with, and apart from the Pharisees that Christ referenced Himself I've never read or heard anyone charge Christ with being a drunkard. So that point is moot. What the op did was coming from the nonexistent charge of Christ being a drunkard to sneak in that drinking alcohol is a sin. That was trying to play on the intelligence of the ignorant.

Jesus Christ made the best wine ever. He turned water into wine, not fruit juice.

Every wine is alcoholic!!

Jesus was not a drunkard but he drank wine.

Drinking alcohol is not a sin. Excessive drinking is what is a sin.

Therefore, drink moderately & responsibly.
Re: Why It's Unwise To Say That Jesus Drank Alcohol And Was A Drunkard by jesusjnr2020(m): 7:49am On Feb 07, 2021
I have always believed that Jesus never drank alcohol considering who Jesus was, and this has also been confirmed by the scriptures, some of which I used in this post. But it occurred to me that I'd never asked Jesus concerning this, hence I decided to ask Him if He did, and the answer He gave me was a resounding 'No!" He also said, "don't mind them. How can someone filled with the Holy Ghost be taking alcohol?"

If Jesus ask me, na who I go ask?

God bless.
