No lecturer would openly threaten to victimize a student for not yielding to his sexual demands.. They know the repercussions of that and nobody wants to put his job on the line.
I feel the lady in question had an agenda of keeping the man down with pregnancy and when that failed, she took to blackmail.
Read the story carefully to the point where he boasted of being a cultist while in school and still maintaining ties with them up till now.
Who goes that far? No doubt he was reckless in his affairs but that lady has got some real serious questions to answer.

Let the truth prevail, I can only judge when I hear the other side of the story from Odum. We lived in same lodge during our undergraduate days in UNN. He was a very social, very intelligent and a guy with a great sense of humor and very focused in his career.

The reality on ground here is that this lecturer didn't go as far as dishing out threats just to have sex with the student. He may have used coercion but I strongly doubt his use of brute force. The lady in question may have played along with her eyes fixed on the man's money or a marriage but when the odds came against her, she went nuts.
If it was rape or anything close to that, why didn't she make a report immediately after the incident but rather waited till she became pregnant..
What we've read so far is only a one sided account from the student and probably on the ill advice of a cheap charge and bail lawyer.
Let's wait till the truth emerges fully.

If he didn't rape (though not all rape involve the use of brute force) her then the use of brute force is most likely not possible.

But coercion and threat is very much possible. Some Nigerian lecturers think they are God. You need to hear them brag and threaten students.

The story may have been embellished but I can't put somethings pass some Nigerian lecturers.

Not only Alcohol, he was a chain smoker. 2006 when I gained admission, I was his fan then cos he an OAP on Lion FM, then a PG student staying in Nkrumah Hall. That's how one lecturer in my department is keeping beef with me. canceling my assignment and embarrassing me in front of everyone just because he thinks I'm dating my classmate he has crush on and probably doesn't send him.

How do I tackle this please as I don't ever want to have any carry over in my academics.

The truth will eventually come out. The young won't watch his name tainted if he's innocent.
I strongly feel this is a case of transactional sex gone wrong because if it wasn't, I wonder why the student waited till she got pregnant before speaking out. I not denying that many male lecturers are he-goats but also don't forget the games being on them by female students..
I know coercion and subtle threat for sex happens, but going as far as citing his association with cultism is way too much a stress on his part just to have sex. He may have said all that after the girl became pregnant and refused an abortion, but threatening her to such extent just to have sex is really doubtful.
