I said it here before the season began that Ole has his favorites so, no matter how well a bench player plays when given the opportunity, he will find himself back on the bench in the next game...Check out the game against Sevilla in the UEL last season, Martial and Rashford were missing chance after chance but what did Ole do? He left them on the pitch until the dying moments of the game.

Ole doesn't favor competition for places and that's why Martial knows he can play rubbish and still get into the team. Look at Telles, he is supposed to provide fierce competition for Shaw but Ole has reduced him to a bench role...

We are talking about a new CB and RB to compete with AWB but don't bet against Ole sticking with Lindelof - Maguire partnership whilst we begin to question the quality of the new addition same with AWB and any possible RB addition...

Look at Liverpool, Klopp didn't have any reservation to send Firmino to the bench when Joya was fit and firing on all cylinders.

Let me break it down for you. He himself believed it is quality of the players that is doing the job rather than whatever tactic he is putting in place. That is why he does not believe in the bench cos they are inferior to the starters (at least on paper).

A manager who has supreme confidence in his own system and tactic will trust the bench cos in his mind it is his system which is doing the job not the quality of the players.
