Don't know what ignoramus taught you that. A fossil fueled plant has a rating of how much power to produce. Comes down to how much fuel to burn.
A hydro only needs a certain amount of 'head" and volume to ensure rated generation power.
A nuclear plant only needs a certain amount of nuclear fuel to produce rated power.

Solar needs sun. When it's cloudy the solar plant can't produce it's rated power.
Wind plants. Can't produce rated power when wind changes direction or it's not windy. Stuff man can't fix only optimize.

Load flow optimization requires a lot of knowledge. When the renewable sources are not producing their rated power , the grid requires traditional sources to kick in during peak demands. In other words renewables are vulnerable to weather vulgaries and are not reliable.They need traditional power generation sources.

Over 50% of texas power is generated by oil and gas. That means in an ideal world oil and gas only should be able to meet the demands of the state, assuming an installed capacity of 100%. The fact that even oil and gas failed means the whole power design was faulty from the beginning.

"Wind and solar got shut down," he said. "They were collectively more than 10% of our power grid, and that thrust Texas into a situation where it was lacking power on a statewide basis."

But this focus on windmills ignores the evident fact that — as Abbott acknowledged on local TV — every kind of power generation fell short in this storm.

In fact, significantly more natural gas and coal went offline than renewables. But that doesn't suggest fossil fuels were uniquely to blame either — they were responsible for more production, so it's no surprise they were the source of more failures.

Grid operators say it simply doesn't make sense to pinpoint any one generation source for criticism.
