HORLADSTAR: If we were to buy F-16 jet fighters or the Eurofighters we would have to take loans from IMF and World bank to pay salaries of Ministry of Defence staff and their dependents. Plus, we bought Tucanos from America...which are also effective in COIN efforts If you want a made in Nigeria jet...you have to rejig your economy from a consumer one to a productive one...which the party you love and the APC both have no idea how to do it for Nigeria...oh and pay your light bills too. 1 Like |

Pakistan of yesterday is given Nigeria their own made fighter jets? As late as 1970 after the civil war, some people that worked in the Biafra Research and Development (R&, together with General Samuel Ogbemudia, the then Governor of mid western state, approached General Iliya Bisalla and other top military officers in Gowan government on the need to operationalize the Biafra playbook as it had the potential of making Nigeria self sufficient in arms production, including fighter jets going by Biafra discoveries and innovations during the war. To their shock, Bisalla tore the thing to shreds and burnt them without even given an iota of respect to his colleagues, Gen. Ogbemudia. Professor Ayodele Awojobi came up with his own armor tanks with capacity to do auto reverse if it came face to face with enemy or getting serious fire from the enemy side. The stupid Nigerian government then discarded his ideas. The North should be opened to ideas irrespective of where it is coming from. 2 Likes |

Good example of advancement is Pakistan who were poor some decades ago. Nigerian leaders are dullards and thieves. They never have shame buying jet bombers from PAKISTAN. |

KenModi: That's because since Independence, we have run an economy based on selling raw materials and importing most of what we should be making. Also, over-emphasis on university degrees means we don't have enough technicians. The people who would build most of the scientific and machinery stuff... Again, we shortchange our electricity sector by making them charge prices which makes them run at a loss....plus 40% of us don't pay our bills. Even the recent price increase means that there are still losses of N2 per kwh. Finally, we also don't have enough small scale industries that are capable of manufacturing the small components needed to build anything from a electric fan to a jet fighter. Again that's because most Nigerians prefer to go into importing stuff, instead of making them. 5 Likes |

ibedun: We think well enough...it is just that we live under the idea that selling resources means prosperity. We got that idea from Saudi...who produce five to six times more oil than we do, and have a population not up to 40 million people. Forgetting that strong nations use resources to make things the world needs...which is what China is doing right now, and what many Western countries have done and are doing 1 Like |

dederocs: How many years have the US been in Afghanistan fighting terrorists?... with a disciplined military?.... fully trained and equipped with the most sophisticated arms ... communication capability and coordination between ground and air divisions?... they have an array of aircrafts... including drones.... but yet... the terrorists are still there. What makes you now believe a few Pakistani jets will make any difference? Having those jets will endanger the lives of innocent Nigerians. Just hope they don't bomb your family and headline 5he strike as a precision strike that eliminated a terrorist cell. The US has done that several times.... and they are well trained.... why wouldn't our gallant military men? Be careful what you wish for. |
