All I needed was deed poll and the British form .... my naija passport never came into factor. The naija passport is still in my maiden name so my two passports have different names and I travel with it like that all these years.... One day when I have power for naija embassy stress I look into what it takes to change the name

So I’m planning on applying for British naturalisation but my Nigerian passport (Now expired) and my BRP is in my previous last name. All my other documents are in my new last name. I got the name change via a deed poll.

I would obviously want the British passport to be in my new name but I was told that I would need to change the name on my Nigerian passport in order for my naturalisation certificate to be issued in the new name.

The problem now is Nigerian embassy is closed until further notice (May God help Us) and even if it’s open, I read on their website that they don’t accept deed poll as a change of name document.

Another issue is I might be changing job soon and my passport is expired but BRP is still valid. I don’t know how to go about the renewing the Nigerian passport.

I don’t know of any Nigerian lawyer that can advise me about this. Biko, any advice is welcome. Is there another document I could provide to the Home office as a proof for change of name when applying for the naturalisation and what do you Bosses suggest I do about renewing my passport.

This wahala too much, thanks in advance.

It's never a crime to continue using your maiden name after marriage........

God bless you. Madam has always been she wants to change name because she married. I tell her that does using your maiden name make you less married. No need for all the above wahala, we are in the 21st century unless una no trust una selves and must brand your wife with your name.

Come to Scotland, you can flush all you want, you pay fixed price for water.

If the husband likes, he should only buy the property or properties, in his name only........

His wàhálà....... The wife still bearing her father's name, is still entitled to 50% of marital assets (as a starting point).......

So to what end is all the wàhálà...... Would the name change - :

- Increase their love
- Increase their amount kids
- Increase his/her libido
- Increase their wealth
- Increase their debt
- Increase their credit..........

Because you’re changing the two names, it’s going to be too complex for the embassy even if they were open.

I know the brits are now accepting expired passports for visa, but I also know that they will use the name on the passport to create your final “visa”.

If they accept a deedpoll, then you’re converted. You don’t need to worry about anything; I believe it trumps the expired Passport’s name.

You don’t need a lawyer for anything. If you’re too u comfortable, spend that lawyer money on a flight to Nigeria, do your passport and return warning 4 days.

LIMH you don’t want the stress. Just continue with the Brit passport I can tell you this with my chest.

By the way, I think the times have changed. I was told the same thing. So I moved heaven and earth to change my passports name, before I applied because they said they will use the name that’s on my passport (then expired) if I applied.

You are right telecoms industry is very wide hence he needs to be specific what he wants and what qualifications he/she has...

And no they are not low paying job. Especially if you not a contractor and you work directly with the company ..... BT(EE,Vodafone,plusnet,02) they all have good starting salaries.

I think it will be better and quicker to go to Nigeria to have the name change done though it might be a bit expensive due to covid tests, flight and money to wet the floor

The amount of ridiculous emails and calls I get for telecoms engineering roles even as low as £150pd and the sheer number of field engineering roles paying 25k is enough proof of this.
