I was shocked with the way McTom was controlling the ball in that match. He was controlling the ball like he was controlling a funnel.

McFred and IceFridge square will lead us back to square one.

McTom is useless going forward (except for the occasional shots on goal). Not that I had issues with McFred against Chelsea, just don’t use that combo against small teams.

Also, maybe when we play big teams Bruno should stop playing 8, 10, 11 and 7. Basically, no free role for him, he should stay put as a number 10, so the transition between midfield and attack is smooth, since we would be playing two DMs.

He can have the free role against mid table teams.

The gap between McFred and Bruno in big games is too much. Bruno will bomb forward and McFred sit back in order to protect Maguire/Lindelof leaving a big chasm in the midfield.

In line with you said, as long as we use Maguire/Lindelof the only solution would be to drop Bruno back into midfield and play as a 10 (but more like an extra no8). That way instead of 4 players isolated in attack it would only be the front 3. That might paradoxically improve our attacking play in those big games as we would have more possession in good areas.

It is obvious that this season the other managers in the big clubs have decided to take away our counterattacking ability so we too have to adjust accordingly.

Any explanation on how we won the big games last season? What has changed considering the fact that we have more 'quality players' this season.

De gea has won nothing notable at United to be considered a legend.

De Gea is not, due to his inconsistency and little achievement with the club. Messi is Argentine legend for some reasons like making wc and copa America final and also been the best player. He has won olympics and under 23 wc so he has a legacy among Argentines already.

The explanation is in the post you quoted. The big clubs are not attacking us recklessly anymore. That has taken away our counter-attacking which was a major reason for our success against them previously. Even Pep has adopted a more cautious approach against us.

Na usage rate dey cover him ashiri, a fridge is still a fridge jare.

Example, even though Maguire averages 3.3 clearances per game in the EPL which is lower than both Lindelof (3.4) and Bailly (3.6) he is no 2 on your list which uses total clearances which is dependent on minutes played.

You might want to ask why he is no2 in the top 6 when he is no3 in his own club?
Cos he is the only CB that plays almost all minutes and all league games.

Thiago Silva is at 3.6 and Zouma is at 4.6. So looking at only Chelshit and Utd CBs he is no 5 in clearances. If I go through all the top 6 clubs Fridgeman will struggle to enter top 10 in clearances. Na the 90 minutes he plays every game wey dey cover am.

Abeg no dey use summation x bobo us jo o.

Lol. Harry is overly criticized jare. He plays so much because he is very fit. Being available to play every match is an ability itself. Also, number of clearances is not the only thing on the list na? What about the other metrics? grin

You're 12 points behind thr leaders and you're beating your chest with pride.
Is that one a second?

The same mediocrity complex I've been talking about.

You've scored no goal from open play against the big six but you think we deserve second place.

Thank your stars that every other big club bar City is out of sorts.

12 points behind the leaders is not insurmountable at this stage.
also, you can't knock United's position this season as nothing. It is exactly where performances have them.
you can call it mediocrity complex because perhaps you expected much more, however ill-advised that is but that's not my problem.

Man Utd, as of this point, have not fared worse than last season despite having the worst start since Fergie.
if United finish second this season it's not a failure whichever metric you want to put forth.
this is not a top 6 league, and if it were, United should have won the league or come a close second last season. all these "against top 6" narrative springing up like the mountain dew is serial bunkum.
aside the Spurs result United haven't conceded in open play as well.
things can be better, but saying United should thank stars because others are out of sort is as unpalatable as saying Osaka should thank stars Steffi Graf is retired.

It's shocking that we decided to go for Fridgeman over Ruben Dias. I remember Dias had an excellent outing at the Euro Nations League the summer we bought Maguire. I reckon we could have gotten Dias for about 60M to 70M pounds in 2019, this might be some 20/20 hindsight bullshit though.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 9:50pm On Mar 02, 2021
Lol Dias in this our team will still end in lamentations. Not because he's not good enough but the system. Just see how City players rush to shut down any attack from wolves. Dias hasn't really had anything major to do defensively today. Same for many other matches.

Ole's in-game management in the very compact games need to take a huge leap as well.
when Chelsea started the 3-4-3, I was really disappointed Ole just sat and watched the game drift. when I saw Martial up for introduction in a like for like sub, I just hoped we don't concede because if we did, then it was a certain defeat.

I expected a quick double sub.
first sub of Williams for AWB because AWB was not exactly sure whom to pick up anymore, as well as offered nothing going forward.

secondly, a Bailly/Telles for Greenwood or James. this either free up Shaw as a wingback to get beyond Reece James and not worry too much about what's behind or Shaw as a third CB picks up either Pulisic or Mount higher up the pitch.

Rudiger had so much freedom to constantly pick up McTominay in our own half ffs.
the one time we broke free was when McTom played the worst square pass I will see this season.
I was livid nothing was happening from the technical bench throughout the second half.
we couldn't bypass the press and we are bringing in a striker who isn't even good in the air or hold up play. at least we'd have said we want to bypass the press with long punts towards Martial.
it was very disappointing.

This is the job of coaching, the same way Klopp used their mad pressing to protect their defence.
An average City or full strenght Liverpool defender sees less attack than Man Utd.

Exactly! The coach has a major role here simple. Anything short of that is just running in circles. We can call the players fridge and whatever all we like and compare with other defenders, but that won't change the truth about the things responsible for why those other defenders automatically look better
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Trevor012(m): 10:51pm On Mar 02, 2021
Yet you will still complain when Ole uses Mctominay and Fred to protect the defense. Some people are naturally confused cheesy cheesy
