TROOPS DESERTION STORY NOT TRUE The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a publication in a section of the media alleging that over a 100 Nigerian troops were reported to have absconded after Boko Haram attacks on Marte and Dikwa. This publication is false, unfounded and an attempt to malign the image and character of the Nigerian Army. For the records, in the fog of war, it is a routine that head count is conducted to determine the number of men and equipment holding aftermath of military offensive. Unfortunately, an internal correspondence that was originated by the formation was not properly done. It was later discovered that a good number of those affected rejoined their respective units and are currently part of the ongoing clearance operations. Members of the general public are please advised to disregard the story as the subversive intent of the promoters are targeted at dampening the morale and fighting efficiency of our troops. We continually solicit especially the much needed public support in the fight against Boko Haram. The Nigerian Army wishes to reassure the general public that troops are in high spirit and currently clearing areas infiltrated by Boko Haram terrorists/ISWAP. It is on record that the troops fought to defend the Internally Displaced Persons Camp and United Nations Humanitarian Hub in Dikwa. It is pertinent to also note that normalcy has returned to Dikwa and its environs. MOHAMMED YERIMA Brigadier General Director Army Public Relations 4 March 2021. |

mekussa: It was an ambush as the troops were returning from an operation in the forest. Ambush keeps working against NA troops and the solution is very cheap and readily available. Provide air surveillance for troops on movement. Even the cheapest drones can be used for a while. In fact cheap armed drones should be the key platform for combat patrols, far cheaper and safer. The Turkish TB2 drones for instance. 3 Likes |

Whyem15: The drones don't even have to be armed. There are relatively cheap, unarmed, long endurance drones that provide good situational awareness to patrolling troops. A lot of these things come cheaper than the cost of training, equipping and kitting one soldier..... Not to talk of the value of his life. These young men are just being wasted for NOTHING 3 Likes |

The operatives of the Department of State Security
service, SSS, have reportedly raided a forest camp
belonging to a network of seven armed bandits in
Kaduna State, recovering some sophisticated weapons
during the operation.
According to a report by PRNigeria, the operatives also
arrested some gunrunners and masterminds of some
major abduction, including that of students in Niger,
Kaduna and Zamfara States.
An intelligence source told PRNigeria that security
operatives eliminated some of the armed criminals after
tracking them to a forest camp and engaged them in a
‘deadly’ gun battle at Birnin Gwari axis.
Some of the bandits escaped with gun wounds while
notorious gunrunners were arrested during the
clearance operation.
The source said: “During one of the latest intelligence
operations, the secret service also recovered a general-
purpose machine gun, rocket launcher, a rocket-
propelled grenade, AK 47 rifles and magazines at
Panbeguwa Town, Kubau Local Government Area of
Kaduna State.
“The Arms were being moved by two suspected
gunrunners namely, Idris Isma’il and Rabi’u Nasiru from
Kurra, Barkin Ladi LGA in Plateau State to Birnin Gwari,
Kaduna. One of the gunrunners was shot dead when he
attempted to evade arrest.”
This is coming after a similar seizure in Ebonyi few
weeks when Nigerian security forces bust arms
stockpiles at Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government
Area of the state and recovered similar sophisticated
weapons.
When contacted, the spokesperson of DSS, Peter
Afunanya stated that the Service has even achieved
more operational successes across the country than
the latest one.
He, therefore, assured that the service would continue
to detect and prevent crimes against the internal
security of the country. |
