darkwan: This is not about producing more bananas, but having over 60% share in the banana market. That is a monopoly. It means you will be in charge of deciding the price of bananas, including making decisions on who should or should not go into the banana business (or farming). |

A lot of the people condemning him here have never run a simple kiosk, successfully or otherwise. They don't have the time or willingness to do a simple research using the most free tool, Google. And when did WikiLeaks become the official voice of the US? Even so, the US will never favour what Dangote is doing. They prefer to take our raw materials, turn them to what we use, and sell us exorbitantly priced so-called "Foreign goods". But what do we know? Whatever does not suit our ethnic and religious wishes has got to be the latest scam by the devil! 2 Likes |

darkwan: Western nations protect their companies, but not at the expense of their other companies. Unlike Nigeria, where several governments have protected Dangote, and allowed him monopolize many markets at the expense of other Nigerian investors. We don't need a monopoly in Nigeria because many people are poor. When you monopolize many food industries, and allow one capitalist to decide prices, how would the average poor Nigerian survive? |

QuotasSystem: If it ends importation will it reduce the price when there are no healthy competition? I wish there are many indigenous refineries in Nigeria to compete with each other. I wish the govt gives as much as they did to Dangote support to other prospective investors who wish to build indigenous refineries. I hope they encourage foreign investors who wish to build refineries in Nigeria. The implication of Dangote refineries is this, he will own all the petrochemicals that were not accounted for due to overseas refining and will employ a lot of Notherners since it is located in the north |

darkwan: It's not about the whites but about leadership. Leadership is tough and complicated, and the US wants to maintain its status as the world's leader. If you must be leading others, you must have stinking-rich companies to pay good taxes and influence how people lead their everyday lives around the world. So, those leading tech firms are investing so much in research to stay in business. And no reasonable government kills innovation. Even the US government funds the research of private universities...it shows you how much they value innovation. That's why I said that they are caught up between the devil and the deep blue sea. |

For instance, if you owns a hot-cake business you worked earnestly and spent billions to established, will you allow one person to control your price for you? Penguin2:China didn't grow by letting Americans flood their market with their products, it grows by encouraging locally produced goods while discouraging importation of same. And today, China is standing chest to chest against America. Talking about refinary license for importation, it is a welcome idea for me but government should have a plan of let say 10years to put it in place. Hence, the government can come out and say, in the next 10years, only those with license and operating refinary, operating at certain minimum capacity can import fuel in the country, believe me, before 10years we may have up to 5 operating refinary in Nigeria and I hope you know what that means for our growing unemployment and dwindling economy? It is a welcome development to say a business man is interested in his profit while making suggestions, of course profit is his reason for going into businesses in the first place so you can't blame him for being interested in his goal. However, you can adjust his suggestions to achieve national goal. This is exactly what I expect from all of us rather than criticising him. If you look at the message carefully, you will notice that America also talked about it's interest 2 Likes 1 Share |
