Hello mama, how are you and LO doing this morning ? Your baby will be fine . The light therapy is one of the treatment given amongst other treatments. Yes, I didn't like it too, it seems too much for a new baby coupled with the fact that their eyes has to be covered and all. Jaundice treatment can really be tiring but at the end you will laugh. Make sure you ask questions to be sure the level is reducing. The level and response to treatment will determine how soon you will be discharged. Make sure baby feeds well either way, this also helps.

My DD2 had it so bad that she had exchange transfusion. She is a rainbow baby and i had her through ELCS, so you can imagine what I went through. We were in the hospital for 2 weeks and 2 days after her birth.

Stay strong mama, there is light at the end of the tunnel, you are not alone. Soon you will be home with your baby and everything will be in the past. When I started getting agitated then, my dad told me to calm down because I also had it as a baby .

Sending love, light and plenty hugs to you.
wowwwww thank you so much mama kisses to your LO

Registering in another hospital won't make a difference though my own point of view.Ur lo will be fine o we were told at my clinic but I also thought it's when one have malaria and I had it twice so I used it the second time I vomitted after like 30 or 40 minutes I used the drug and I was ok afterwards.I wish mother's that have experience can talk about this.

I am changing hospital now because someone told me she used the place for her two kids and she is no longer using the place now because their negligence is too much...

Very Good. They’re taking care of him well. They probably are still holding him until the levels drop to a 5 or lesser (hospital policy varies). And yes, the nurses are right, keep him under the lights for majority of the time. Infact, if they have a bili blanket underneath him, lift him and the bili blanket up together when you’re breastfeeding him. Put him back under the lights immediately after he’s done feeding. Make sure you feed him often. The more he pees and poops, the faster the bilirubin is excreted from his system. My first had bili levels close to 20 when they found out, anytime I think about it, I just praise God. Cos it can only be Him that saved that boy and made sure he has no side effects from it.

I know it’s exhausting, I cried a lot when my kids had to go through it, but it passes quickly and you’ll even forget they didn’t go home quickly. Both mine didn’t even have a proper naming ceremony, and Its pretty important to us Yorubas but they were in the NICU for more than two weeks. I just told people their names and had a cleric come and bless them. So far my kids are alive, naming doesn’t matter.

For both of my kids, it was caused by ABO incompatibility. I’m blood type O, my husband is blood type B and both my baby boys came out sharing their dads blood type B. During pregnancy and birth, the mom’s immune system might detect the baby’s unfamiliar blood protein antigens and create antibodies to fight the unfamiliar protein in the baby’s blood. This immune response causes the baby’s red blood cells to break down after its born and that’s what causes jaundice in babies who’s blood type is different from their mom’s.

Right sis. I’m not at all convinced that jaundice can be caused by malaria at all. I didn’t take any malaria meds while pregnant, but granted malaria isn’t prevalent where I live. When my first child was hospitalized, my SIL told me not to wear him yellow outfits cos it might make the jaundice worse cheesy cheesy

The nurses/doctors in my antenatal clinic said its for prevention and not for treatment.
They even said it should be taken monthly
