We are talking about illegals here again. You cannot enter Canada illegally and make asylum claim.

You better stop mixing up stuff. There is a process to seek asylum in both US and Canada. People who seek asylum in-land Canada was already given a visa. They did not get there illegally. Know the difference. It's not hard.

I was talking about travelling to Canada vs USA. Canada is more strict. This is a fact.

Here is cic policy that says they are screened abroad, check security clearance before they are given visa then they can apply for asylum

Lol okay I have no clue cause you said so. Clue god.

As per the guy you replied to telling him I have no clue. Here is a clue for you. I am not comparing Canada to US. I am making an example even you make. There are turns of undocumented illegal aliens in the US that will flood Canada if Canada encourage them and promise them path to citizenship. But since Canada is strict they don't even dare. Period. 2018 they had only 183 illegal crossing and they are complaining it is high.

Can you see the kind of things republicans tout as ”immigration reform”

cutting immigration by half won't stop illegal immigration

Republicans want just the rich to come to America legally read it

and you would be dissapointed

”merit-based sytem”

more like racist system

Not going to do shit too the backlog, only increase it

current immigrant visas issued in a year is like 1 million yet they are still backlogs, dating back 20 years for some cases

Republicans want to cut it by half which is 500,000 visas down the drain what is that going to do? Other than increasing the wait times and backlogs. That Same bill is going to kick away the visa lottery program. Go look at the visa lottery program and those it favours the most

You see why republicans want too scrap it off

If you are black or brown person in the united states through visa lottery and you support republicans

Shame on you.

In 2007 George bush pushed a bill like Biden's plan to give 11 million illegals legal status. It was abandoned by his republicans

Lydon B Johnson initial immigration bill was like Canada's own

southern congress opposed it who are the modern southern congress? Republicans

if you read deep into almost everything republican

it's built on racism

I repeat if you are black person that managed to find yourself in the US by the standards set by democrats then you became republican in the name of ”conservatism”

Shame on you, and God help you

Discussion is not aabout Nigerians, Mexicans or Europeans, it's about check balancing illegal immigration. Nations have done and curbed to extent.

Biden has refused to visit the southern boarder, probably can't stare into those ICE staffs. You can't make illegal legal by remorse or pity. It is what it is. So do I say you support the recent surge at the Southern boarder?

Between the last 10 years till date, as America been stronger or weaker in it's immigration policies? Now it's termed wickedness for advocating what's right and I have to be on the open the boarders side.

Do you think of the impact and effect of this policies you support? I know what plays around and I can authoritatively tell you that, amongst great Nations, America has the weakest immigration system. Does that mean nations who have buffered the system are evil?

How about people who migrate legally, are they fools? Let's call a spade a spade, cos no point will make illegality legal. It's weaken the system.

Peolosi has acknowledged surge and blaming on Trump, thats an acknowledgment that she is aware of the rise.

I am sorry to say, but you are exhibiting the usual "pulling down the ladder once I get to the top to prevent others from using the same ladder" syndrome. I am not sure whether it is hatred for other blacks like yourself or the love of white (European) supremacists that made you take their talking points.

I am sure either you or close members of your family did not enter the US as a legal immigrant. You either went with a student visa or a visiting visa and then struggled for a green card and then passport. Why don't they talk of illegal Eastern or Western European immigrants? You mean to tell me there are no illegal European immigrants in the US? O I forgot, the Republicans prefers Norwegians to Mexicans or Nigerians.

Me, I can never immigrate to the US. I got a 4 year visa in the 80s and only spend 3 weeks before leaving. But I do not quarrel with those who immigrate to the US or any other country for a better life.

Humans (and animals too) had been immigrating since the beginning of life on earth. The first humans were speculated to come out of central/southern Africa and through immigration colonized the while world. Humans immigrate looking for better life - food, shelter, mate or in modern times money. And no force in the universe can stop that.

Nigerians and other Africans still attempt to cross the Mediterranean in flimsy rafts and boats to get to Europe, despite thousands drowning at sea yearly and another thousands being killed and raped in war torn Libya.

As long as their are wars, instability, poverty and lack of economic opportunities, people will immigrate to better places irrespective of risks and laws. The same thing happened in Europe during the 18th and 19th century when millions of Europeans emigrated to the Americas, Africa and Australia in search of better opportunities.

The rule being talked about is different from your point. Infact you haven't proven any point. We are talking about ilegal immigrants applying inland and you are now talking about "country shopping". Different topics.

The Liberals have tabled changes to refugee law that would prevent asylum-seekers from making refugee claims in Canada if they've made similar claims in certain other countries, including the United States — a move Border Security Minister Bill Blair says is meant to prevent "asylum-shopping."

The above means that if the Ghanaians hadn't previously applied for asylum in the US, then they have no issue. That means ilegal migrants can still walk across the border and apply for asylum as long as they haven't applied first in the US. i.e. country shopping.

The case is also still in court by the way.

That's why I told you earlier on to read up on Canada - US safe third country agreement.

What Canada does is observe international law, which requires that anyone entering (legally or ilegally) any country - including Canada - and requesting asylum is given a fair hearing. If the person seeking asylum can prove a justified fear of persecution, asylum will be granted.

You are just mixing up a lot of stuff on this topic and that's because you only have a faint idea of it.

What also happened to your less than 200 immigrants arriving in Canada in 2018. You deflected that one eh.
I have added your previous post because it seems you don't want to stay on the topic lol

Pelosi shot down a Merit based system

Later they will say its Republicans who did not want to allow immigration? Once again what is wrong with adopting the Canada style merit based immigration system where priority is given to those highly educated people that will fix the countries needs
Basically having higher levels of education, English skills, in-demand professional expertise was what Democrats deemed as wrong for the country

What is wrong in priritizing visas for people with extra ordinary talents? You are exceptional in your field? Then America wants you. What is wrong with that? But the Democrat desire to play politics and do nothing will make them shoot it down

Even demanding potential immigrants speak English was shot down, You can't immigrate to Canada if you don't have at least 6 in IELTS or French Language

The point of discussion is not about race or colour, it's about illegal immigration. This ladder you you talk about, I am sure you don't know aboutbthe ladder coming the illegal way. Trust me you don't. That aside.

What's illegal is illegal. Thats the name, and I didn't make up that name. And that books to the fact that no discussion or argument here will ever make it legal.

I am conversant with an ideology where fraud is a norm and being against it is jealousy, I know condemning exam malpractice is wickedness. Lets try to be straight with norms.

If you had been coming here since the 80's, why didn't you stay put despite the limitless opportunities here? I guess you couldn't go that route.

What you clamour for as led many astray. I know what am talking about and it's not hidden in the USA. The truth is, few relate with their experiences here.

And talking about social economic impact, do I still have to go there? This shouldn't a debate where norms are on the table.

When I mentioned the diversity immigrant visa. I mentioned that a favoured a set of people

The image below showing application from those set of people

And why ”REPUBLICANS” are suddenly merit-based now

Images I posted above showed that the plan showed merit-based was Lydon B Johnson's plan, same REPUBLICANS felt family-based was the better one (because the knew at that time, it would most likely come from European nations)

Now it's merit-based they are advocating for

talambout ”Pelosi shot it down”

why won't she

go and read about diversity programs

is more like a skilled workers program

At diversity interview, you have to show what you have to offer to the US

teachers, mechanics, tailors, hairdressers. Many I have seen

switching to a”merit-based system” is going to be a biased and money gulping system.

Their are several nations that have more secured boarders and policies. Borrowing such structure shouldn't be difficult.

Illegal immigration can't be eradicated, but can be curtailed. Like I said, Nations have done it.

Making it based on education, English abilities and skillset needed in America will be biased
When Canada is doing the exact same thing. Canada has a set of profession called NOCs, An English/French language exam cutoff and need certain educational achievements before people qualify yet that is not biased

Now we are waiting for Democrats to unveil a system that won't be biased but like the do-nothing and only play politics, we will be here to see it

How many mechanics or hairdressers, have you heard passed the ielts and made it to canada

Let's start from there.

since you can't grab that the present visa lottery is all-inclusive regardless of your occupation or race

there is the H1-B for specifically for professionals.

what other one do you want again!!!!!

come of it, lets stop pretending like we don't know the end game here

let the merit-based system start, bet 10 years from now

Republicans would say it's susceptible to fraud.

keep feigning ignorance. ”conservative”

For those who are familiar with the Canada process, They have a list of NOCs which they are looking for. A list of Occupations they are lacking and they need foreigners to fill

There are some professions that Canada does not need, they only accept professions where they have a need

Let Democrats create their own immigration plan and pass it into law not just talk

If you cannot pass one of the eligible Language exams in Canada, whether IELTS, CELPIP or TEF you cannot immigrate

These are the facts not just emotions

Have you been to Paris during their illegal migration crisis? Have you seen their streets and the uptick of crime? If it has no effect why all nations fight to control it and not open their borders for everyone? If their migration to France is so heavenlike why do they try to get to the UK?

Why did Canada stop it? Canada the 2nd largest nation in the world with less popular still won't accept illegals. Why do you think so? They are racist too right? Abeg get sense.

look up the H1-B lottery

so merit based.

I don't know which other kind of merit-based you want

Just come out and say it clean

we don't want low/zero educated people here. when there is an influx of educated people, what do they end up doing?

Jobs meant for low/zero educated people

What is wrong with America attracting more smart people from all over the world who will use their ingenuity to create more jobs, open more businesses and create opportunities in America

More Elon Musks, More Steve Jobs, More Satya Nadella, Attract those guys who founded Flutterwave They made the country better because they increase the size of the pie for everyone

One guy on here who used to post here started his own company in New York. his name is Wemimo Abbey. America needs to attract more of those brains who create jobs, innovate things.
One girl who used to post on Sports section a PhD from a US varsity ended up migrating to Canada when she couldn't get H1B lottery. She is now contributing to the Canadian economy. Many smart guys American educated who couldnt make the H1B lottery had to leave the country to the benefit of Canada and other countries

That is Merit based immigration

You mean 2 years is not enough? How long will be enough for democrats to do something about immigration?

How many years did Republicans have full control to make their changes they did like the tax cut

If a legislation is important to any party, 2yrs is more than enough to pass it

But democrats won't do anything by next elections they will still be whining about what Republicans didn't allow them do though they have control of both house

Just like in Nigeria by 2023, APC will still be campaigning about what PDP didn't allow them to do

The issue with any immigration bill is that it needs at least 60 votes to pass in the Senate, unlike the Covid relief and tax cuts that were simply passed with a senate majority via budget reconciliation. Presently, both parties are too far apart for them to work together in a bipartisan nature to get any deal done. Getting that 60 votes in the Senate is the real issue here.

I support passing an immigration act that
1. Give dreamers the path to citizenship cos I believe kids brought here and have lived here all their lives are as American as anyone. Actually I believe they are more American than those who have babies in America get a passport and get out within 4weeks for the child to surface after 18yrs. A child brought here at age 4 has nowhere else to call home

2. There must be a lasting solution to the Southern border, 100k border crossing a month is not sustainable for any country. This has been the sticking point for most Republicans in Congress. Any solution that doesn't address this is just band-aid in my opinion

3. More priority should be placed on highly educated people especially those who studied top courses here to be retained and given a Green card. If you establish a company or find a solution to a major problem instant citizenship

4. The 11m undocumented to pay a fine and be granted amnesty as long as they are not felons cos you can never realistically deport 11m people

The number 2 point is very important so that every 20yrs we don't arrive at this point

We need realistic solution fast and not all these white people this, black people that, Identity politics that some people love to play. Every argument about any topic is dumbed down to White people vs non white people

WASHINGTON — Democrats who represent communities along the border are ratcheting up the pressure on President Joe Biden to take action as a wave of migrants has started crossing into Texas.

“We are weeks, maybe even days, away from a crisis on the southern border. Inaction is simply not an option,” U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar said Thursday. “Our country is currently unprepared to handle a surge in migrants in the middle of the pandemic.”
