A New malware called Mazar Bot that is attacking smartphones has sufarced, giving attackers full administrative rights to monitor and control nearly every aspect of the phone.

The malware was found to be in active use by researchers at Heimdal Security, takes hold via a malware-ridden SMS/MMS message that, once clicked, spreads a torrent of alarming exploits such as sending malicious text messages, anonymously accessing the web, putting the phone into sleep mode and even fully erasing all content from the device.

Unlike the typical Android exploit, Mazar Bot targets users with a direct message and is not downloaded through a third-party application store. Until now, the malware was advertised as being for sale on the dark web however this is the first known case of it being exploited in active attacks.

Once on a device, the malware covertly downloads Tor that allows it to connect anonymously to the internet to ping a server that effectively acts like a beacon to alert the attacker that a fresh device has been compromised. What's worse, it can install the Android-based Polipo Proxy application which lets the owner of the malware intercept and spy on all internet traffic passing through the smartphone.

According to Andra Zaharia, security specialist at Heimdal Security, this could lead to Man-in-the-Middle (MITM) attacks which are often used to steal sensitive details such as email account logins, social media credentials and banking information.

Security experts allegedly claim that evidence suggests the attackers operating the malware are Russian. When Mazar Bot was first discovered last year by researchers from Recorded Security, it was revealed the malware was being advertised on a Russian-language dark web-hosted website.

According to Heimdal Security, the malware is only likely to evolve in the coming months. "Attackers may be testing this new type of Android malware to see how they can improve their tactics and reach their final goals, which probably is making more money," added Zaharia. "We can expect this malware to expand its reach."

Whatsapp now has over 1 billion users, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that Whatsap which he purchased in 2014 from co-founders Jan Koum and Brian Acton now has over 1 billion users.

In an interview with Punch, Oritse Femi revealed plans to drag his former manager, Danku, to court over the use of his brand logo

“During that period, my Instagram account was hacked and it was reactivated by one of D’banj’s friends, Harold. I gave Danku N50,000 to pay Harold but he did not pay and Harold did not grant me access to my account. At first, Danku did not tell me that he did not pay the guy, instead he said that my Instagram account had expired and I was marvelled. I got Harold’s number and he told me he was never paid. I called Danku to ask why he did not pay Harold, all of a sudden, he told me I should never call him in my life and if I tried it, he would place a curse on me. He said my problem was too much and he didn’t want to have anything to do with me.

“I had to involve D’banj who helped us to settle the problem with Harold. I told Danku I would understand if he wanted to be left alone but he should return my money and car but he refused. I have decided to sue him.”

“I placed my mother on a monthly salary but I empowered his mother’s business with N1m. She is into a business where she needs boats and I bought her two other boats with the one she had before. When his grandmother died, I spent a lot of money to bury her on his behalf. All these his family members know.”

Veteran Yoruba actor, Olumide Bakare is currently lying in admission at the University College Hospital, UCH in Ibadan, Oyo State after suffering from cardiac arrest.According to reliable reports, the Oluwa Lambe Lodge star is in a critical condition with top skilled doctors battling to save his life.
It was further reported that his younger sister whose name was simply given as Shade confirmed the tale and urges fans and friends to pray for the aged actor.
The actor is said to be in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital battling for his life as cardiac experts rally round to save him.
The actor’s state of health has not been back to full state since he was hit with cardiac arrest in early months of 2013.

In an exclusive interview with the Vanguard, Mr. Ibu shed light on why many Nollywood movies focused on rituals, saying it was a way of warning people to stay away from them.


He said: “Films are a reflection of the society. Nobody believes he is a poor person in Nigeria. We are trying to give proper interpretation of what is happening in the society. Films give back the life in the society. But,already,we have held a meeting that all things should go and give way for films dwelling on family,tragic,comedy stories. The issue is that the ritual thing can’t even go in the society. My father for instance, was poisoned to death by his best friend. I was small then. When my father died,he told my mother in a dream about three weeks after, that it was his best friend that killed him. In that dream,my father told my mother,invite the man who killed me but nobody should hurt him.

“My father equally instructed my mum to invite my brothers and relations inside our compound. Tell them what I said. My mother invited the man, as my father instructed and other relatives. My fathers instruction was done exactly as it came. They told the man what my father said. He denied and they said okay,you will eat the yam roasted on my father’s grave. If you did not do it,you will go home, but if you did it,you will die here. The yam was roasted on my father’s grave in the presence of the man. All the elders in my village ate the yam and said the yam was sweat and that we did not put poison in the food roasted on father’s grave. Then came the turn of the man. The elders asked him to say that if he was responsible for the death of my father,Emmanuel Okafor,let this food be the last food he will eat.

“But if he did not know anything about my father’s death,let his life span be increased. The man who killed my father refused to eat it. And remember,my father had warned us in the dream,that we should not touch him. When he refused,nobody touched him and he left. That is to tell you that the rituals we are shooting is real. But the new generations coming up,they are oblivious about these concoctions. That is why we shoot films to highlight these things so that people will know and shun such evil ways.”

30 people have been reported dead after Al-Qaeda militants attacked the Splendid Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Majority of the victims killed were foreign citizens, with American, Canadian, Dutch, French and Swiss citizens identified among the casualties.


Three of the militants were killed in a gun-battle with Burkinabe armed forces, shortly after which the hotel was recaptured.

“We heard shots, grenades, detonations. It was echoing and extremely loud. It went on for a long time,” a survivor said.

“They kept coming back and forth into Cappuccino [Cafe]. You’d think it was over, then they’d come back and shoot more people. They would come back and see if the white people were moving and then they would shoot them again.”
