Politics / The Many Corruption Cases Against Danladi Umar(saraki’s Accuser) Of CCT by properous22: 12:25pm On Sep 19, 2015
Umar is on administrative bail from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which arraigned him on cases of corruption, bordering on receiving bribes from suspects, highhandedness towards his staff, and gross nepotism.

The Cases with EFCC

Bribery

The EFCC, on Monday, July 6, 2015 arraigned a certain Ali Gambo Abdullahi, a staff of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Abuja, and personal assistant to the Chairman, before Justice C. N Orji of the FCT High Court sitting in Apo, on a 2-count charge bordering on conspiracy, bribery and abuse of office.

Abdullahi’s arrest and subsequent arraignment followed a petition from one Rasheed O. Taiwo, who claimed he paid a bribe of N1.8million to Umar, Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja through the accused.

Taiwo alleged that, Umar who claimed to be presiding over a case in which he was involved, demanded a N10 million bribe as “settlement”, to clear him of all charges.

The petitioner further alleged that, after several negotiations, he paid N1.8 million as initial deposit, into the account of Ali Gambo Abdulllahi, in a new generation bank.

Politics / Buhari Breaks Record Of "Fastest Corruption Trial" With Saraki by properous22: 7:20pm On Sep 18, 2015
Reports have it that it took President Muhammadu Buhari just 72 hours to tactically bring to a logical conclusion the alleged falsification of asset declaration case against Senate President Bukola Saraki, making it the fastest and only corruption case that the President has executed within four months of his administration.

To watchful eyes, this is the fastest corruption trial of the century, one that is not unconnected to the controversial nature of Saraki’s ascension to the Senate Presidency, against the All Progressives Congress, APC, anointed choice, Ahmed Lawan.

Saraki was indicted by the Code of conduct, CCT, on Tuesday September 15, summoned and ordered to be arrested on Friday, September 18, 2015.

Sports / 5 Ugly Trends In Nigerian Football by properous22: 12:59pm On Jun 18, 2015
Nigerian football has taken a severe beating recently. Team performances across board have suffered and as Nigerians hope for better football at all levels some reoccurring decimals have been highlighted. If these trends are not checked early enough there will be more tears for the teeming fans of the game.

Some of the ugly reoccurring decimals eating deep into the future of Nigerian football include the following:

Over time, Fans and sports analysts mounted pressure on the NFF to send Nigerian coaches on refresher courses abroad to enhance his exposure and technicality.

There is no doubt that if Coach Manu Garba had special training, the U-20 team would have performed better in terms of technicality. That much was obvious.

The NFF Chairman Amaju Pinnick introduced Prozone to improve match preparation for the national teams.

What have they done with the software, giving our poor tactical displays in two major tournaments this month?

Every weekend, you see representatives of the NFF putting on jerseys to show their love and support for Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea. Even State governors and commissioners are not left out.

As this national madness progresses, Nigerian football continues to suffer both in divisive boardrooms and on the patchy pitches. We forgot that Nigerian football reached its peak in 1994 and that we have gone to sleep ever since.

Politics / NASS Leadership: Again, Tinubu Tears Into Buhari, Atiku by properous22: 7:40am On Jun 16, 2015
Tinubu, who is the owner of The Nation newspaper, has been known to use its columnists and editorial staff to air his opinions about national issues.

He insinuated that Buhari perhaps encouraged the rebellion that took place in the NASS leadership saga that saw the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Honourable Yakubu Dogara as Speaker, House of Representatives, candidates that were not chosen by the APC.

Tinubu also accused Buhari of further encouraging the rebellion in the party, with the statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, which said it “somewhat” served the higher purpose of democracy.

“On the meeting the party scheduled, we learned that Buhari’s advance party was at the venue, but he did not come. Why not? Shehu said he was about to come when the fait accompli of Saraki’s victory occurred. Was that not enough reason for the president to express open disavowals of condemnation rather than a tame Channels interview?

Tinubu also tore into Atiku, who had openly showed his support for Senator Saraki, even prior to his emergence, accusing him of lacking “moral grace.”

He said Atiku was a bitter man, who due to the fact that he lost the APC presidential primaries to Buhari, championed the rebellion in the party. He described Atiku as “a restless man of ambition, but little vision.”

“The peripatetic harlot of politics who sways right and left simultaneously, may be smacking his lips, but he is no noble man of this era,...

Politics / Between Nigerians And Buhari: Truth Behind “one Meal A Day” Campaign by properous22: 4:52pm On Jun 13, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari famously pledged to provide a free feeding programme for primary school pupils across the federation despite the dwindling oil revenues.

The current situation in the country reflects a grim picture for electorates, expecting this particular campaign promise to be kept.

With the number of public primary schools and the millions of pupils in the 774 Local Governments of the 36 States in the federation, in the face of lowest oil prices, the Buhari administration will not keep this promise without running into huge unnecessary debts.

It is either the President and the All Progressives Congress have not done their home-work or they are sure most Nigerians do not critically analyze electoral promises.

It is relevant to note that the gravity of the confidence reposed in the “people’s General” may lose its meaning in the face of a failure in actualising these lofty dreams.

Politics / Rape Legislation: Nigerian Senators Sexually Perverted – Soyinka by properous22: 1:32pm On Jun 13, 2015
Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has accused the Nigerian Senators of promoting their sexual perversions with the passage of the new rape legislation (Sexual Offences Bill) passed by the last National Assembly.

The Bill stipulates life imprisonment for any individual found guilty of rape or sexual intercourse with children under 11 years; 10 years for incest; 10 years for child pornography or a fine of N2 million; and 14 years for sexual abuse, among others.

“President Buhari – and here I make my first imposition on his presidency – should never place his assent on such a nefarious distraction.

“Its implications doom the victim to afflictions that churn the stomach even to think of the human toll. Perhaps those legislators think that vaginal fistula is something thought up by arm-chair critics with nothing better to occupy their minds. No matter, let those who profess a genuine concern declare their stand on this.

“Well, we understand ‘child’ as defined in most dictionaries. There is however also child as defined by the Nigerian legislature. This definition is contained in a prior Bill, sponsored, no less, by a notorious serial pedophile and cross-border sex trafficker, yet lawmaker – one Ahmed Yerima.

Politics / ANALYSIS: How Atiku, Tambuwal Clipped Tinubu’s Wings In APC by properous22: 7:55pm On Jun 11, 2015
The current National Assembly leadership tussle that led to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Honourable Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives, has revealed the cracks in what many perceived as the “strong” alliance that is the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Punch Newspapers, reporting the developments, quoted sources within the APC as saying that the party may introduce sanctions against Atiku and Tambuwal over the outcome of the National Assembly elections.

“Don’t you find it curious that the first person that Saraki visited after emerging as Senate President was Atiku? We have information that Atiku told his supporters in the Senate to vote for Saraki and that was what happened. We know that Atiku is still nursing a presidential ambition for 2019 and he is now beginning to build blocks,” the source said.

“Tambuwal is also nursing a presidential ambition and needs to retain control over the House. He will not be able to retain such influence if Gbajabiamila is the Speaker.”

Sports / Flying Eagles’ Exit: What Went Wrong Against Germany? by properous22: 5:46pm On Jun 11, 2015
The highly praised and loved Flying Eagles have crashed out of the U20 World Cup in New Zealand after suffering a disappointing defeat at the hands of the Germans in the second round of the competition.

A first half goal by Levin Oztunali in the 19th minute left Nigerian fans stunned as the cadet side crashed out with a whimper.

As a coach, separating professionalism from personal interest must be grasped fully by Nigerians if the game in this country will step out of this current bog.

Recall that some of Stephen Keshi’s failures in the past as the Super Eagles handler can be traced to not fielding players as a result of the personal clashes with them. The damaging losses different Nigerian teams have experienced are well documented. Several episodes involving Mikel Obi, Osaze Odeminge and Ikechukwu Uche spring to mind.

Manu Garba failed to learn from Keshi’s experiences. Iheanacho showed his displeasure at being pulled off against Brazil and was introduced late on against South Korea. Instead of managing the situation the gaffer escalated issues by keeping him on the bench against Germany. This had an evident consequence on team morale.

Politics / Saraki Senate Presidency: Tinubu Blasts President Buhari by properous22: 8:00am On Jun 11, 2015
Tinubu, who on Wednesday through the Nation Newspaper, in an article titled “The untold story of PDP’s coup behind Saraki’s Senate Presidency” pointed an accusing finger at President Buhari for displaying neutrality in who emerges as the Senate President without due regard to the fate of the party.

According to Tinubu; “Despite the choice of National Assembly leaders being a mixture of party politics and legislative duty, the aloofness, or the perceived neutrality of the President allowed the ‘fight’ within APC to fester until it went of hand.”

He explained that the invitation of the APC lawmakers to the International Conference Centre, ICC, was said to be at the behest of the President; shockingly, the President did not show up.

“The bewildered 51 APC Senators, who were waiting endlessly for the President in ICC, watched the proceeding of the inaugural session from a nearby TV box.

“Before the 51 APC Senators could race down the five-kilometre stretch from ICC to the Assembly Complex, Saraki had emerged as an unopposed candidate.

Politics / NASS Leadership: How PDP, Saraki Tamed The Lion Of Bourdillion by properous22: 11:41am On Jun 10, 2015
The dramatic emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogara as the senate President and Speaker of the 8th National Assembly on Tuesday, is likely to end the overbearing influence of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Tinubu who allegedly, before the last general election, single-handedly picked President Muhammadu Buhari, Yemi Osinbajo and Chief John Oyegun as the president, Vice and the APC chairman respectively.

In a terse statement, Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the election, vowed never to recognise Saraki as the gavel handler and landlord in the house.

“I will never recognize such a kangaroo arrangement that produced Bukola as the Senate President.

“Or how do you want me to recognise a man who deliberately defied his own party because of his personal interest? It is not done anywhere,’’ Tinubu fumed.

Politics / Open Letter To The New Opposition Party: Ignore media for a day, risk obscurity by properous22: 3:04pm On May 19, 2015
As the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, assumes its new role as the opposition party come May 29, the members of the Party are advised not to ignore or toy with the persuasive and pervasive nature of the mass media.

The main thrust of the media’s agenda setting power is that the mass media sets the agenda on burning issues in the society for public discourse.

Olisa Metuh and co appear to be exasperated and must either quit or refresh themselves on how to put pen to paper to drive home their points.
