Burger01 An agreement is an agreement.. govt should fulfil and deliver. I agree. |

I blame the Federal Government and to be precise the Jonathan Administration. He isn't performing what he was elected to do. He brought petrol hike, rewards criminalism throught amnesty (forgetting the live and families of those murdered; no compensation. Policemen and soldiers were drafted against their will yet there pension is so meagre). Now He wants to destroy the educational institutions so sponsors of private universities can benefit seriously. |

I have even heard someone say all dangote started with was 500000 naira and he made it big like miracle grows on trees. |

Yes i quite agree with you but it is not too late to start building. The earlier the better. I share in your opinion that background does not mean anything as far as the cash is rolling. So people become indebted for various reasons to keep their status. It is sad and very disappointing. One that is painful is that is that you see young ones that tell you theywant to do business and when you dig further into what business they look you in the face stuttering with their lips. |

This is a thought. We blame leaders for enriching themselves from dishonest gains and yet we sometimes fail to ask ourselves what we are doing. If we push them out, who are they going to be replaced with? My wonder is drawn from the fact that our position of a celebrity in Nigeria is infamous. Taking a quote on nairaland praising Asari even though his source of wealth is unknown. Who are the business scholars we tell people to emulate; Dangote who benefited so much from an administration to the detriment of others, do we think if the field was a level playing ground he will be able to withstand competition. We call the people in Abuja thieves which in my opinion is no different from an armed robber. The only difference to me is capacity because there is no lesser or greater evil to me, evil is evil. The fact that people like Otedola, Dangote, Adenuga are gurus make we wonder how we think as a people and what we are actually seeking as a nation. I take it to be people are of different opinion but mine is that values are getting missing and we are allowing our leaders lead us in this manner. |

d citizen: This is a problem and very disheartening that we feed of anything as far as it can be defined as something is better than nothing. We have forgotten values and tend to chase shadows instead of substance. So you want to tell me in all honesty this is the kind of tale or will i call it achievement you want to be able to boast of to those looking up to you for direction. Asari si dowing well by using unknown means of income to bring development hereby justifying steal as much as you can as far as you bring development to nigeria.Nigeria is really in trouble. 1 Like |

Serves a country right that tends to glorify the fame of people with unscrupulous means of income. |

I respect your view and must say that such has hit my heart in recent time. We as a country have found it difficult to maintain what the western world will call history. We read encyclopeadia showcasing western civilization. Where are our museums or artifacts that relate to Nigerian history. These leaders we have which i often call wicked tend to kill the system to prevent people like us from having a dream for the future. At least a method of transportation existed before the event that brought about autmobiles. So i believe having such background information will tend to develop our minds to research out ways we can improve on our culture and the portray it to the world rather than running after western breakthroughs. |

For years we have sat in the face of our elders who keep repeating stories of their feats or how bag of rice was three naira or how effective post office was or how ferries were efficient or most popular how the Police was a mark of respect and how strong the naira was so strong then. I know many of us would have heard even more than I said, so the lies and truths are all on the table but the most significant is that Nigeria was a promising land then. Which led me to believe a picture of a good tree that produced a lot of fruits but was eventually cut down by some wicked people but as a tree, it is quite impossible to uproot with your bare hands hence the use of heavy machinery to actualize this. So how do we change this as a young generation? My simple proposition is “read”. Our educational system is porous I know but I see that the ruling powers in the country do all that they can to kill the education sector because with wisdom comes power. Once upon a time, Nigerians never knew the power of votes in election so they could sell it for 5000 naira but now, it could cost an arm and a leg. Take for instance, journalism is hardly investigative anymore that when a story is published, little is done to follow it true to the end. Also necessary literature that dealt with history has been taken out of our school curriculum so we cannot get access to how the founding fathers of this great nation sought independence. All the leaders want, is for us to take their word as it comes without checking through. We have monarch who do little or nothing but to seat there and collect royalties while we bear the burden on our shoulders. Their time is coming. They can do all that they can to stop us but it would not work because as gossip is seen as a wild fire so is information. One might say well all these have been said before but I want to encourage everyone us that it is working, it is gradual but we are getting to the point when young leaders will seat in courts and ask the older generation it is time to pay the price. The rise of police brutality and military oppression has dwindled because we know better. We have taken advantage of social media to spread information and the internet to study our equivalent in other countries. Take a look at how we respond to political information from the president. The Nigerians they once thought as foolish are coming for them. I am pretty sure now that Babaginda will retrieve his statement of “Nigerians can only bark but cannot bite”. What I predict is not a revolution but a point where the knowledge to effect change has been attained then we will move into state house. Please give your take on this |

I am a regular reader on nairaland but could not resist the urge to join based on this topic. First I would say I am a big fan of people learning their tribal tongue but in some cases I disagree. Personal experience with people from my culture have taught me serious lesson. You approach them and as soon as they see themselves in a position to help you they resort to English. But when the older ones want to enforce respect from younger ones especially when they are broke tribal language seems to a must. Some tribes I envy because I see the way they help themselves but when it comes to my tribe; bini I would say you are in for a surprise |
