Phones / Apple Looks Set To Ditch The 3.5mm Headphone Port, And I Couldn’t Be Happier by Queenett1997: 9:23am On Jan 26, 2016
ALL SIGNS point to Apple dropping the industry-standard 3.5mm headphone port from its next iPhone, as part of a major hardware redesign. And I couldn’t be happier.

Apple is rumoured to be dropping the industry-standard 3.5mm port from its iPhone

Apple looks set to ditch the industry-standard 3.5mm headphone port from its next iPhone, dubbed iPhone 7.
Code buried within the latest beta for iOS 9.3 – “Headphones.have.%sinput.NO” – points to how the iPhone could handle audio signals without a dedicated headphone port.
It doesn’t confirm the rumour, but it does show Apple is at least investigating the possibility.
This has not been met with an entirely positive response.
Indeed, some 293,000 people have spoken out and signed a petition asking Apple to reconsider its rumoured plans.
But I wasn’t one of them.

And that’s not because I have an overwhelming and irrational desire to throw out my tried-and-tested headphones and AUX cables. But nonetheless, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about the prospect of Apple dropping a hundred-year old technology from its cutting-edge smartphone.
Part of that excitement is because it shows Apple is still willing to take risks with its most successful product, iPhone.
After all, this towering smartphone behemoth currently accounts for a whopping 62.5 per cent of Apple's total revenue.
You could argue that the MacBook, Apple’s svelte single-port netbook unveiled in March last year, is enough to prove the world’s most successful company is still willing to take risks. And if the MacBook had replaced the MacBook Air, I would have agreed.

DETAILS on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 have leaked online, and reveal some interesting new details about the flagship smartphone.

Curved Labs has imagined a radical new design for the Samsung smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S7 is now a couple of months away, a new leak has revealed.
The Galaxy S7 will be available in the United States on Friday March 11th 2016, serial leaker Evan Blass has posted on Twitter.
Mr Blass has an almost impeccable track record, so it's safe to assume the Galaxy S7 will hit US stores on that date. It's likely to arrive on UK shores in the days that follow.
Samsung is expected to unveil the smartphone at Mobile World Congress 2016, dubbed MWC, next month in Barcelona.

Phones / WARNING: Clicking THIS Link Will Crash ANY Iphone by Queenett1997: 8:09am On Jan 26, 2016
THIS DEVILISHLY simple web address will CRASH any iPhone or iPad – and it'll play HAVOC with your Android device, too.

If someone sends you a link to crashsafari.com, you probably shouldn't open it on your iPhone or iPad.
The prank website overloads Apple's default browser with a self-generating text string in the address bar.
This can cause your iPhone or iPad to heat-up – as it desperately tries to handle the ever-growing code of the website.
After 20 seconds or so, your device will be forced to reboot. Although the iPhone can still be unlocked with Touch ID, which suggests it is a respring rather than a full reboot.
It's still incredibly annoying – and almost as frustrating as this iPhone reboot prank.
Android devices will significantly heat up as the default Chrome browser tries to handle the code.

On the desktop side, the crashsafari.com website will cause Safari on a Mac to fail to respond. Chrome will also become bogged down and sluggish.
The news comes after a text message was discovered that could crash and reboot your iPhone.

LOUIS VAN GAAL is feeling the heat of the Manchester United fans - and now he's slapped a journalist in the face.

The Dutchman was responding to a question about signing Ashley Cole following the defeat to Southampton.
"He didn't play for a year," was Van Gaal's response.
Van Gaal then left for Holland for his daughter's birthday.
The slap is in jest and does not appear malicious but is another sign of the stress getting to him.

Van Gaal's future is being discussed by the United board at having fallen further behind the Champions League places.
Tottenham came from behind to beat Crystal Palace and moved five points clear of United.

United have 15 games to salvage a place in the top European competition but Van Gaal appeared to suggest he would not be seeing the job through.
He said: “I’m very disappointed that I cannot reach the expectations of the fans.
“They have - or they had - great expectations of me, and I cannot fulfil them, so I am very frustrated because of that.”

MANCHESTER CITY will have to wait until they are out of the Champions League for Pep Guardiola to officially sign on as their new manager.

Pep Guardiola is on the verge of becoming the manager of Manchester City

Guardiola has agreed a deal to take over at Eastlands next season but won’t put pen to paper while there could be a conflict with his current employers Bayern Munich.
The 45-year-old has told the City top brass that it is only when there is no chance of the two clubs playing each other this season that he will sign a contract.

Health / The New BIONIC Eye Which Can CURE BLINDNESS by Queenett1997: 12:21pm On Jan 23, 2016
Eyesight breakthrough: Scientists have made a major breakthrough which will provide hope many

MAJOR scientific discovery could mean a cure for blindness is on the cards

Scientists have made a major breakthrough which will provide hope to 20,000 people suffering from an incurable eye disease.
The cutting-edge research found a bionic device could improve vision by sharpening an image using specific and long electric pulses.
Longer pulses meant the bionic implant worked better and heightened focus, the scientists found.

The changes to the retina transplant could save the eyesight of thousands

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) affects one in 4,000 people and is a disease of the eye that leads to loss of vision and devastating blindness.
It causes permanent changes to vision, varying from person to person.
The retinal changes affect side vision, making seeing in dim light incredibly challenging and central vision - making simple tasks such as television or reading a book difficult.
Researchers stimulated an implant at the back of a participant’s eye using long electrical pulses - and it was the longer length of these pulses that made all the difference.

Phones / This Is How Much MONEY Google Really Makes From Android by Queenett1997: 11:26am On Jan 23, 2016
THE amount of money Google makes from its hugely-popular Android operating system was this week revealed in US court.

Android generates money through advertisements and digital purchases via Google's Play Store

Google's hugely-successful Android operating system has generated revenue of $31 billion, some £21.7 billion converted, a lawyer for Oracle has revealed in court.
Of that figure, some $22 billion – £15.4 billion – was profit, the Oracle Corp. lawyer told a US court hearing during the software company's copyright lawsuit against Google.
Google says the figures should never have been made public, and has asked the judge to redact and seal the transcript.
The US search firm said the information was intended for an "attorney's eyes only," and noted that it does not reveal its earnings for Android.
"Google does not publicly allocate revenues or profits to Android separate and apart from Google’s general business," lawyers for Google noted in the filing.
"That non-public financial data is highly sensitive, and public disclosure could have significant negative effects on Google’s business."

Phones / It Turns Out THIS Is More Useful To Hackers Than Your Stolen Credit Card Details by Queenett1997: 10:55am On Jan 23, 2016
STOLEN logins and hacked online accounts can all be bought on the Dark Web, but some of the prices might surprise you.

Netflix and PayPal accounts are some of the most sought after details available on the Dark Web

Cybercriminals aren't interested in buying stolen credit card information.
Hacked Uber, PayPal and Netflix accounts have become much more valuable to criminals, according to a study by security company Trend Micro.
Uber logins – which allow buyers take free taxi rides – are more expensive than Netflix credentials and credit card account numbers.
According to CNBC, stolen Uber login details can sell for some $4 each in marketplaces on the Dark Web. That's only £2.80, but still significantly more than other items.
Research from Trend Micro revealed that Netflix logins cost some $0.76 each, 53p converted, credit cards numbers for $0.22, or 15p converted.
PayPal accounts with at least $500 in credit are one of the most expensive items available on the Dark Web, an anonymous portion of the world wide web not indexed by any search engines. These logins have an average resale value of $6.43, £4.50 converted.
Meanwhile, stolen Facebook logins cost an average of $3.02 each, some £2.11.
Users who purchase stolen Uber credentials can book taxi rides, which are then charged to the real account owner.

GOOGLE has created a Doodle today, paying homage to world-renowned Swiss artist, sculptor and dancer, Sophie Taeuber-Arp on what would be her 127th birthday. But who was the prolific artist and why was she so instrumental in the Dada artistic movement?

Google today celebrate what would be the 127th birthday of Sophie Taeuber-Arp

Who was Sophie Taeuber-Arp?
Born on January 19, 1889, in Davos, Switzerland as Sophie Henriette Gertrude Taeuber, Taeuber-Arp left home at 18 to study textile design in Germany before returning to Zurich in 1915.
Upon returning, Taeuber-Arp began to produce non-representational paintings – these were heavily influenced by her training in textile design.
Around the same time, Taeuber-Arp met French sculptor, painter and collagist Jean (Hans) Arp – the man with whom she would later collaborate with before marrying in 1922.

YOU REALLY don’t have to be a mastermind hacker to crack any of the award-winning clunkers on the Most Popular Passwords of 2015 list.

The Most Popular Passwords of 2015 reveal that secure passwords are far from the norm online

It turns out the Most Popular Passwords of 2015 could easily be mistaken for a list of the Worst Passwords of 2015.
Yes, it might be a staggering 26 years since Sir Tim Berners-Lee built the first website, but it appears we still have yet to master the art of online security.
Each year popular cross-platform password manager SplashData publishes a countdown of the 25 Most Popular Passwords of the past year.
The rundown is compiled from the millions of stolen passwords that are made public throughout the last year.

Princess, Solo and StarWars all made it into the top 25 most popular passwords of 2015

The news comes weeks after this viral YouTube clip revealed possibly the most frustrating WiFi password of all time.
SplashData sorted through some two million leaked passwords to put together the Most Popular Passwords of 2015.
The US firm also shows the popular password's position relative to its ranking last year.
The data from the last twelve months shows the popularity of sports, animals – fantasy and otherwise – and Star Wars when it comes to picking a password.

Phones / Iphones Could Run On Home Broadband 100 Times Faster Than Wifi, Code Reveals by Queenett1997: 8:50pm On Jan 19, 2016
APPLE is testing compatibility with Li-Fi, a new wireless technology with speeds more than 100 times faster than Wi-Fi.

Apple is looking into making its iPhones compatible with Li-Fi, new code has revealed.
The new wireless technology was invented by Harald Haas, a researcher at the University of Edinburgh, back in 2011.
The cutting-edge technology was tested in a number of real-world trials in Estonia last year, where speeds of over 1GB per second were recorded – around 100 times faster than current home wifi speeds.
And that has clearly piqued the interest of the world’s most valuable technology company.
According to code buried within iOS 9.1, Apple is looking into making its iPhone range compatible with the futuristic wireless technology.
The news comes after Apple this month rolled out a beta for iOS 9.3, which includes a dedicated Night Mode to help smartphone owners sleep at night.
