Business / How Much Is Needed To Live A Good Life In Nigeria? by Radarbaby: 10:40pm On May 18, 2022
By “good life,” I mean living in a good environment, driving good cars, 2 travels a year, health insurance, feeding well, wearing nice clothes etc

From my calculation which is based on someone living in a high profile part of Lagos, that will be an average of:

N550k a month for single person

N850k a month for a family of three

N1.3m a month for a family of four

There are 2 ways to afford this.

(1) It is either you have a high income job

(2) Or a high income business

A high income job is rare and difficult to get.

But you can start a high income business

This REPORT reveals 5 little known but high income businesses you can start this year

Romance / Can A Monkey Impregnate A Human Being by Radarbaby: 10:08pm On Apr 30, 2022
I would offer my educated guess on this. No, not monkeys. Monkeys are not as genetically close to us than other primates.

However, I understand the meaning of your question. It would be better if you understand that it the the great apes (For example, Chimpanzees Bonobos, and Gorrillas) that are the closest genetically to humans.

Now, if you had asked this question about the great apes, it would have been a much better example (monkeys are not apes).

Now, we know that there are distinct species that are nevertheless close genetically and can produce offspring.

A male donkey and a female horse produces a mule. A lion and tiger can produce offspring: the ligon. So far, though, it seems that the offspring of distinct species cannot themselves produce offspring.

So, can a human and a great ape produce offspring? I am not sure, but I would guess that it is possible. I skimmed the net and found some claims related to this possibility. I have heard of situations though that a monkey impregnated a woman.

Health / What Are The Small Things That I Can Do To Daily To Improve Myself by Radarbaby: 10:57am On Apr 30, 2022
Here are 7 habits I’ve practiced over the past several years.

My favorite? #2. It sharpens your focus in seconds!

Daily habit #1. Feed your brain with a nutritious breakfast.

When you feed your brain right, you can optimize your cognitive performance, boost memory, and increase concentration in everything you do during the day. Try a simple oatmeal breakfast. Mix one cup with 1 tablespoon flaxseeds (an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid which is a healthy fat that boosts cerebral cortex function), 1 teaspoon peanut butter, a sliced banana or other fresh fruit such as berries, papaya, and mango. Sprinkle some walnuts or almonds on top for more brain-boosting benefits.

Daily habit #2. Improve your focus each morning with one question: What is the ONE thing I am committed to learning today?

This habit keeps things simple, helps your brain focus better, makes you prioritize your goals, and streamlines your work so you don’t feel overwhelmed by a thousand things you “have” to do. Write it in big bold letters on a sheet of paper and hang it on your bedroom or bathroom wall. Read it out loud and come up with an answer on the spot as you’re brushing your teeth or getting dressed. Then, keep it top of mind as you go about your day, as a reminder of what you’ve committed to do.

Daily habit #3. Do “deep work” early.

Deep work can be any kind of analytical thinking that requires the most concentration such as reading, writing, analyzing or problem solving. It requires a different kind of focus from other more tactical things we do on a regular basis, from washing dishes to setting our alarm clock in the evening before going to sleep. Dedicate the first 2-4 hours after you wake up to maximize your brain’s peak performance time. If for example you wake up at 7, your peak times are between 9 and 11 a.m.

Daily habit #4. Do a short 20–30 minute cardio workout.

Being physically active improves both your physical and mental well-being, plus you get the boost of endorphins (happy hormones) when you break a sweat. But instead of aiming too high (“I have to spend two hours at the gym!”), start with a super simple workout session, either in the morning before you start your daily commute or when you’re done with work or school. Pick a shorter activity that requires your body to move, such as a 15 minute bootcamp session, a set of lunges and squats, a power walk, bike ride, or quick run through the neighborhood. Looking for a challenge? Try building this 30-day plank pose habit!

Daily habit #5. Calm your busy thoughts with meditation.

If you find yourself often feeling overwhelmed and stressed, you can quiet your mind from all those busy thoughts with a simple 10-minute meditation practice. Download the Headspace app, which makes it super simple for beginners. Practice 10 minutes consistently for 10 days. Experiment to find out which time works better for you, mornings after you wake up or right before going to sleep. After that you can opt to increase the time to 15 and later 20 minutes, or you can keep it to 10 if that amount of time works for you.

Daily habit #6. Create your fiction book-reading ritual.

If you haven’t given reading fiction a try, here are some benefits for you to consider. Did you know that reading fiction improves brain function and boosts connectivity in the brain? It’s not my personal opinion — science backs it up. Neuroscientists from Emory University published a study called Short and Long Term Effects of a Novel on Connectivity in the Brain explaining the benefits in detail. To make reading a daily practice, get a library membership, download the Goodreads app to help you find topics and writers, and read up on Quora’s novel recommendations to get started on your reading journey.

Daily habit #7. Practice a growth mindset.

If you think that a mindset is something you’re just born with, think again. Unlike having a fixed mindset (where you believe you’re born with a set of skills and abilities that are in your “nature”), cultivating a growth mindset means you push yourself outside your comfort zone, challenge beliefs on what you can and cannot (or “should not”) do, and re-program your mind so you can develop your core qualities and skills through continuous efforts.
Education / 5 Types Of Content To Post On Social Media To Get More Engagement And Interacti by Radarbaby: 6:44pm On Apr 29, 2022
One of the most crucial aspects of social media marketing is having a well thought-out strategy. You need to put together an outline that is going to work best for your brand by considering events and milestones such as long-term goals, audience engagement, marking objectives and the budget that you have in mind.

5 great ways to create more business with your social media content

1. Create Video Content

Videos are the ideal content for your social media marketing strategy. It gives users a deeper sense of what you're trying to convey without relying too heavily on text and images. Most of the popular social networks will allow you to upload video directly or put it in an extra column via Instagram Stories or Facebook Stories.

Users can share video content on every major social media channel through direct posts or through IGTV or Reels options on Instagram.

You can also tap a range of filters & features on social media platforms to make your videos stand out from others. And don't forget about adding hashtags to each video so it becomes easier for people who are interested in what it is you're promoting find it.

2. Go on with Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is a great concept for businesses to reach out to their audience. Influencers are essentially run of the mill social media users who have a following that they could potentially influence with their messages, and get them talking about the brand or business at hand. These days most people with influencers have the potential to really make your project viable through the power of using their following to your advantage and in turn establishing your business as an expert within your niche.

3. Publish User Generated Content

The content produced by your loyal customers acts as a referral for your brand. It increases both your brand’s visibility and credibility with the help of customer-generated content. Being credible is important if you want to attract new customers through the use of word-of-mouth marketing!

4. Repurpose your content for different platforms

When you have a great piece of content, why use it only once? It is better to repost it to different social media platforms in order to get more people reading it. Use this to boost your engagement and thus increase the number of visits to your website. For repurposing content, you can:

Convert a blog post into a social media infographic/carousel post
You can create several tweets out of a blog post
Share important facts from a white paper or article into a series of posts
Create GIFs out of long videos
5. Share Company Information

When you come up with unique ideas and want to make sure that they get wide recognition, it is a great idea to share company news on your various social media profiles. Credible brands find great ways of sharing their expertise and most importantly their profits with their followers in the form of special offers which in turn help the followers and customers alike when it comes down to making key buying decisions.

Education / Why Are Nigerians Fleeing Nigeria? by Radarbaby: 4:37pm On Apr 29, 2022
In answering this question, I will like to recite the first Stanza of our National Anthem to help make my points more colourful.

“Arise oh compatriots

Nigeria’s call obey

To serve our father’s land

With love and strength and faith

The labour of our heroes past

Shall never be in vain

To serve with heart and might

One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

Our fathers in the early 1960–1975 sang this stanza merrily with every atom of patriotism in them. The green white green national colours, were colours of honour. Traffic’s came to a pulse, pedestrians have to stand still whenever the national anthem is on the air. That was the height of patriotism and love for this country called Nigeria.

This was an era when things were working the way the ought to. Probably like my father will always say (May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace), the shadow of Britain was still lingering with us, since it was barely few years we got our independence. The system left behind by the whites, were still working.

This was a period, when Nigeria had something closed to a functional government. A government, that understood the value of education and its impact on its citizens. Universities were almost fully funded by the Federal Government. Students loans were easily available to all who care for it. Getting a scholarship was as easy as getting a ticket from Silverbird cinemas to go watch Black Panther. Most of our current political leaders were the benefactors of this generous system. In fact most of them would not have seen the four walls of a university, if not for social schemes like this.

I will tell you this for free as well, foreigners were also coming to Nigeria to study because of the good educational system we had in vogue then. When I say foreigners I mean western expatriates, not fellow Africans. Seeing a Ghanaian in Nigerian schools then was so common like sunshine in the city of Kano.

The universities were so neat, good infrastructures, and students were treated like kings and queens. Their hostels were cleaned by the university staff including their laundries. There was school feeding even for undergraduates . Milk and eggs were considered necessary for every student and the government provided it regularly free for all! Bursaries were given to students to aid their living expenses. Even when tuition is payable, it was so infinitesimal that it could pass as free education. Yes, Nigeria was once this beautiful, am not talking about Canada here.

Even as an undergraduate, you are already getting offers for a job. My God! My mum told me after her secondary school and passing the Teachers college exams, various colleges were after her, offering her a job with accommodation at the age of 19 years. I mean as a Secondary school graduate, not even university! Being a university graduate, could land you a job in one of the government ministries or some of the functional foreign and local companies operating at this time with a good pay and perks like official car. Nigerians who travelled to UK for post graduate studies always returned back home to work, because Nigeria was far richer and better!

The industries were working optimally, the government was supportive. Fiscal policies were made to encourage industrialisation. This caused other African migrants to flock into Nigeria for a better life, and we willingly welcomed them and gave them jobs. Yes we did!

There were few roads, but most were in good motor able conditions. The health care system was also top notched. Most of the wealthy men then never travelled abroad for proper medical treatment, they had it here. Mother-Child mortality rate wasn’t as scaring as it is today. Our hospitals were fully equipped to cater to the needs of the citizens. They few that were existing at this time were fully staffed. There was no brain drain, our doctors were happy working here!

There was great infrastructure, Lagos was the commercial hub for the entire black continent. Most of the infrastructures we are using till this moment were built in this period or before then. Loans were easy to be paid up, the banking system was near perfection even without modern technology. The public transport system was working optimally, the trains and busses graced our public routes. Crime was not as high as it is today. Inflation was under control and our government was getting the best financial advice from the experts.

Buying a new car was never a big deal, mostly all working class Nigerians could afford it. Only few drove second hand cars. We were so rich and wealthy. The oil boom money was properly utilised! In a nut shell, the quality of life then was above standard!

There was tribalism, corruption and nepotism then at a small scale notwithstanding. The civil war also caused a set-back, but to be frank, the Nigeria of then, is now the Nigeria of our dreams. Yes there was a time, Nigeria was the pride and giant of Africa.

However now, in Shame I will write to pour out my disgust of what is making Nigerians flee, including yours sincerely. All the good life I painted above are either in an abysmal state or even non existent. The education system is if not the worst in Africa, one of the worst educational systems in the world. Everything is in shambles, excessive strikes, brain drain, poor infrastructure, lack of teaching tools, obsolete curriculums that cannot meet the demands of the modern day. Lack of enough universities to cater for the needs of millions of college graduates who seek admissions yearly. It is either you are exceptionally brilliant or your parents are rich enough to “buy" a slot for you in any of the public or private institutions. Travelling abroad for studies is now a luxury. Even to Ghana!

When you finally graduate, there is no job. You will still join your uncle that graduated 5 years before you to be roaming the streets of lovely Lagos looking for a job that will pay less than 100USD per month. Even the minimum wage is 50USD! The worst is that the certificate you carry has no value at all outside the shores of Nigeria.

Infrastructures are almost dead. Epileptic power supply that has almost crippled the industrial sector of the economy. Only companies dealing on FMCG running on diesel powered generators have survived. Don't ask me how that has contributed to inflation.

The roads are death traps themselves. The Benin - Ore expressway has won several awards as the valley of death referred in the Bible by king David. Come to Nigeria and see it. Mokwa - Illorin expressway is so notorious in falling trucks, destroying goods and claiming life's. The transportation system is in shambles begging for a state of emergency.

The health care system is not left out. Almost dilapidated. Visit the National Bureau of Statistics, and the number of people travelling out of Nigeria to India, Germany, UAE, Saudi Arabia etc for medical tourism will shock you. In this lovely country, a senator that claimed he built a world class hospital in his state was flown abroad after sustaining a minor injury due to an accident! Same with the President son! The health system is so poor. And the number of professional doctors and nurses leaving the country for better futures abroad is not even helping matters.

Corruption is now our second name. It has eaten so deep into the fabrics of this nation, that nothing is working again in Nigeria. Occupying a public office is seen as an avenue to loot money and satisfy personal angrandisement. No one cares any longer. Our politicians now see themselves as gods.

To many Nigerians, good and portable water is now a luxury. Better get yourself a borehole because none of the state water boards are functioning again except in FCT.

Taking a loan from a bank is like signing a death warrant, because you can never pay it back. The economy of the nation is so bad that many can no longer afford 3 square meal in a day. It is indeed that terrible.

Nigeria has become a country with no future for its citizens. The same people I read in books and called them former leaders are still leading me till today! When will the future of the youths now come?

Frustration is all you see on the faces of those young men and women huzling on the streets of our major cities. A lot of workers are being laid off on daily basis most especially those working in the banking sector, economic depression is really hitting hard. Suffering and smiling!!!

Our Security system is the worst in the world! In fact, God has been our security. No wonder we have the biggest churches and congregation in the world. Our security outfits are poorly trained and armed. The prisons are in poor state. Only the rich can afford to get personal security guards. If you don't know how to tip police men on check points, you will always be accused of flouting one law or the other. Bribery is now a norm in the society.

Bureucracy is at is peak. Tribalism has reached an unprecedented height in recent times. My background now determines how the government of the day should treat me in case I am looking for job or favour in any of the federal ministries.

Inflation is at its peak, and with a meagre salary, surviving in Nigeria is almost impossible. As a young lawyer in Nigeria, most law firms pay you something within the rage of 70–150 USD a month. You start asking yourself, is this why I wasted 6 years of my life in the university and Law school for?

And in the face of all these challenges, you have a government that is either ill informed and unequipped to tackle the challenges or rather overwhelmed by it. Some proponents sees it as a political strategy by the political class to keep allowing the populace to be improvished so as to always use that disability to keep elongating their stay in power.

These and many more are the reasons why Nigerians Flee Nigeria. To get a better life abroad. Many doesn't mind doing menial jobs on the streets of Canada and earning more than 1000USD monthly, than parading as a professional in Nigeria and earning less than 150USD monthly with no joy and peace to live a healthy life.

I pray that the glory of the past years be revealed again. Let Nigeria be great again, we have the best brains in the world to drive the country to an enviable height in all sector of human living, we just need the political will to get there.

“May the Labours of our Heroes past never be in vain”

I love Nigeria.

Crime / What's The Biggest Scam You've Ever Seen. by Radarbaby: 1:23pm On Apr 28, 2022
Nigerian Scam, on a whole new level!!!

A few years ago, when I was an undergraduate student, this is what happened to my friend, who is a Nigerian, we were both in the US:

A bunch of scammers in Nigeria called my friend’s parents in Nigeria and said they have their son held hostage in the USA and they need money or their son will die. At the same time, multiple scammers were calling my friend’s phone continuously. His parents tried calling him, but non of the calls went through. Luckily, moments before his parents were going to agree to pay the money, he managed to call his parents. The conversation went something like this:

Son: Hello

Parents: Are you okay?? What is going on!!!

Son: What do you mean, everything is fine!!

Parents: we got a call from a group saying that they have kidnapped you and they wanted ransom money!!!

Son: I AM FINE, do not give them any money it’s a scam.
