N3million per month profit is very achievable in haulage, especially in the FMCG area. If you have little or no experience make use of a consultant who would take you through for at least a year. If you give it to friends or brothers to manage, don't blame operators in the industry as some who failed through this process usually do. Suffice to say that Logistics business which includes haulage is arguably the third biggest business in the world behind oil and gas and real estate. it is capital intensive to set up but with a good management team with experience and technology which has come to reduce the risky nature of the business, you can break-even between six months to one year. In the industry there are many bad managers who connive with drivers and mechanics to short change investors. Using a consultant is the way to go. This person would set up the haulage business as well as plan operations profitably for you. One mistake some investors make is to think that the business is an all comers affair. When you come in with this mindset to think that you can manage the truck and driver(s) yourself when you are not a serious practioner, then you will hear things like drivers are bad, transport business is very risky etc. So if you have the money, you are patient, have a sound financial management skill, then you are good to go. Remember just like the popular saying in business parlance, the higher the risk the higher the return. 2 Likes |

The monthly return to you if you purchase a N5.5m truck (20tons) is N1.3m. You can contact me at shinjadi@gmail.com for a budget showing you a detailed analysis of this. With this you break even in six months. |
